The current state of video game journalism

So topic number 2 that's been on my mind (for a while - note that the podcast I'm sharing is from October) is the current state of games journalism; with topics like the decline of reviews vs. the rise of let's plays and the like, the increasing negative effect of advertisements and under the table deals with developers on journalistic integrity, and so on. Both of the below are from people who have worked in the video game journalism industry for a LONG time. (Everyone involved in these discussions is from Gamespot, the Giant Bomb guys left Gamespot 8 years ago I think, [though Giant Bomb is a sister company of Gamespot now] and Danny O'Dwyer left late in 2016)

I suppose I should warn that these guys swear a lot.

1st, a really long talk about what Gamespot used to be like a decade ago sparked by the incident where Bethesda announced they wouldn't be sending out review copies to journalists early anymore. The guy having the discussion, Jeff Gerstmann was the one who reviewed the N64 Ocarina of Time for Gamespot and was fired for giving Kane and Lynch a bad score despite the studio having paid Gamespot to review it well:

An old episode of the Giant Beastcast, with the good stuff starting at 1:00:00

2nd, Danny O'Dwyer's reflection on how ads reduce the journalistic integrity of these sites and why he left to start Noclip:

Yeah definitely interesting.

I have changed my username from Justin Long Fanatic to EricChristianOlsenFanatic, so Justin Long Fanatic is my old name on this site, and EricChristianOlsenFanatic is my new one.
