Idea for a New Video Game Console
I decided that, since Google's made a good start with their Chromebooks, at some point, Google might make a video game console that can compete against the other big boys. It sounds far fetched, I know, but this is my idea:
Google GameChrome
It uses game cards that look like credit cards; they're inserted into a slot, authorizing anyone to stream* any playable game from either Google's cloud servers or other game companies' servers**. There'll also be a new section of the Google Play store that'll allow full downloads of GameChrome games, whether a card has been inserted and authorized or not.
GameChrome can also use Android avatars as models for games. In some cases, they can be used as controllable characters in party games. In other cases, they'll be just custom crowd models that'll add a charm to whatever game you're playing, in which case there'll be randomly generated Android avatars, either by the system or by Google users.
Also, GameChrome will be compatible with some smartphone gaming controllers, even though I expect Google to make their own controllers. Select Android video games that can be played with smartphone controllers will also be playable on the GameChrome, such as Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 5.
*Streaming requires internet connection. If a card is inserted and authorized, you can download the full associating game for offline play, but you won't be authorized to play it unless its card is inserted.
**(I know that the whole "full games being played from servers" thing sounds far-fetched, but think about it - Google has a lot of Drive space available that nobody's paying additional money to use. Plus, YouTube can live-stream in HD (right?). Google can even hold single videos that are 4GB, either on Drive or on YouTube (I tried this myself, and you can view a demo video right here: drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-0zjD5ipEbxaS1nMlJiUTREcnc&usp=sharing))

Google has never published or created games, only the play store, but honestly, there are really no games for touchscreen devices I can think of that even hold a candle to games that can be played on your PC or console device, and I'm positive that playing those smart device games you mentioned on a TV would be comparable to playing call of duty 1/need for speed on your ps2. Plus, the whole "card" idea would lead to people obtaining fake versions of these cards, because the cards themselves don't contain any data, and only codes/bumps the system could read, and this would also mean that the system would have always-online DRM to play any game, and we all know how the XBOne's announcement went.
I'm not sorry if I offended you.

Re: Idea for a New Video Game Console
^^^^ The "always online" DRM thing won't apply when anyone's going to card-play a game they downloaded, as the data files of all registered game card serials will be with the download. The download is free only when you put a card in the system, an the download doesn't erase once you take the card out; it will just be an unplayable download until you put the card back in. It kind of works like a TV box from your satellite or cable company; you can't watch if you don't have the card in the box. Thing is, if you want to play or download the full GameChrome game without putting the card into the box, you have to pay for the online store's price.

Re: Idea for a New Video Game Console
Wanna know my honest opinion? Google is the bane of YouTube and I hate how Google (along with MS) wants to stick their ... stick ... in everything. Just hate it.
So no, even if that came true and I got one for free, I'd sell it. Immediately. Not even opened.

Google is pretty disgusting, but their mobile device market is much better than Apple's, so I'll stick with android, but that's about it.

Re: Idea for a New Video Game Console

Please let it be a round balled console ^^ (Without Social Media or ads on it aswell)
It will contain
- Internet connection to invite people to play games.
- Download demos from a spotfree list that's not annoying to look at. Just well organized and cool looking.
- It will have amazing graphics and rocking music chip. That will motivate cool new games.
- You can plug into 4 controllers. Whether wireless or wired.
- Games have a built in save file
- Harddrive to save all the other stuff, demos etc. (Depends on what people want)

That pretty much is the standard for all consoles nowadays, anyway; those will be in.

Except for two things. Social media and ads construct exists today.
Before ![]()
Not this ![]()
It would be kinda cool with more 3D platformers, but i guess that's more individually what games one wishes to make.
Indie games ![]()

Re: Idea for a New Video Game Console
If I had a chance to make a game console, I would make sure it is extremely awful...
It would be made out of wood, scratch the discs to the point of no return, no heat sink, one controller that is permanently connected to the console with a wire that is 6 inches long, and all for a price of $2000...yeah I'm a freaking genius
And I would call it...THE...

Indeed. I think this is mostly due to that gaming consoles now is less a hobby and more of a trend. So that's why i think. But i agree. It looked so cool. I mean you could choose your own theme and all that, it was so cool ^^

Re: Idea for a New Video Game Console
Social media is completely optional, though. In fact, I think the console should have a first time setup question that asks "Would you like to use social media such as Facebook, as well as any additional apps?" After all, Twitter and Facebook notifications on an iPhone aren't mandatory.

These social media apps you may not like but Microsoft gets their precious revenue for having them on display and as long as it benefits them in any way, they are staying there.
Also going back to the theme discussion, I personally think there should be a theme selection in the settings to switch between the Xbox Arcade (The screenshot posted above) Xbox 360 second theme and the Xbox Metro style theme.
