For most MLP fans, unless its just an avid collector of the old school toys, go by the visuals that the cartoons put off.

Rainbow Dash's cutie mark is currently a rainbow-colored lightning bolt coming out of a cloud.

It used to be an arching rainbow connecting two clouds.

Cheerilee, a 3rd tier pony character in the show is a reoccurring character from the older generations. And even her new g4 toy doesn't match the one in the show.

Hasbro has failed time and time again to match details between the cartoon and their toy line. In fact, Rainbow Dash used to always be a glamor pony, like Rarity is now. But even though she is an athletic adrenaline-hungry tomboy, her G4 toy version still comes with miniature brushes and girly accessories.

Maybe one can say that it's because its a 'girl toy'. But Hasbro should be mad at themselves, cuz it's the only thing keeping me from buying them myself.

Hasbro, I am disappoint.

Let's just consider the current show to be MLP canon.
That means no toys, books, or the previous shows are considered. I mean just look at the toy version. It looks messed up.

I've never even seen MLP on TV, but from what I've heard, I might.
This perhaps convinced me most.

Yes, as I said, not the G4 pony; The version that DFD was drawing. Most people go by the G4 cartoon of MLP as most (not all) people think that all the other generations of ponies are utter crap, and only like the G4 version.

Most of the people who post this stuff actually like the show and aren't just spreading it around for trolling or meme value.

Hm, the fact that it's so widespread right now just serves to show how good it actually is (in my mind anyway). According to knowyourmeme this is why the recent pony-craze started:
"On October 19, 2010, Cartoon Brew wrote an article about the show entitled, The End of the Creator-Driven Era in TV Animation, which had an oddly alarmist tone to it. Threads on 4chan’s comic and cartoon board, /co/, attacked and made fun of the article for this reason. The article and the threads generated /co/’s initial interest in the show, causing several members to go and watch the first episode. After the second episode aired on October 22nd, threads about the Ponies started to boom even more, gaining the show fans outside of its target demographic."
So it isn't popular because it's a meme (which I don't really think it is), but more because people just happen to like it, although I can understand that if you don't like the show all the people posting ponies could get pretty annoying. The best thing you can do is watch the show...And JOIN us. (:

No one should ever feel that the show is being crammed down their throat. But if you haven't given it a shot, then you have no business drawing conclusions. I have never met anyone who truly hates the show, after watching a few episodes.

And 4chan actually was so abusive the the pony fandom explosion that it banned any of it's members for just using the word 'pony'.

Since then, the "hate machine" for the internet has been countered by the immense power that the pony fandom brought, the "love machine" of the internet: ponychan.net now exists.

The memes are and added bonus and are best enjoyed by people that actually watch the show, like a big inside joke you were never let in on.

Almost everyone I met who likes the show (myself included) started out saying they didn't see why it was so great. Then you watch at least three or four episodes. You instantly experience the feeling of being immersed and enjoying watching it.

Sorry about that... But in all seriousness I think this is stupid to argue about, and the thread is going to get locked if flaming and arguments keep occurring.

I've seen the shows that Riverhippo posted on the youtube thread along with 2-3 others (no actual order), and I can 100% say that, despite the characters being practically all female, there is NOT too much "femininity" in this show. I personally dislike it for other reasons, and while I may not understand why people enjoy this, they obviously do.

Some people came from 4chan, yeah, but everyone's so... positive there, despite the fact that they have every opportunity to just troll the crap out of the place and be completely anonymous while doing it. It's something I don't see very often on the internet, and it made me reconsider a lot of preconceptions I had about imageboards.

The site is split into categories like any forum. Those are listed at the top of the page as /something/.

I get the feeling it's kind of impossible to troll ponychan - they'll just "love and tolerate" you too much. Surprisingly I think it'd be much easier to troll people who HATE MLP by posting ponies at them all the time, because they'd actually be bothered.
