DFD, you did not just...

draw a My Little Pony.

Oh yes I did. I don't really watch the show, but I really like their designs for some odd reason. Well, not so much like them, they just seem so fun to draw. So this is Rainbow Dash if I'm correct.
I like drawing her in particular.

Oh, and if this looks familiar, it's because I heavily followed this.

Re: DFD, you did not just...

Firstly, it's dangerous to get involved in this sort of thing. You're old enough to choose what you take into your mind, but you should be sensible about it. There are reasons children's shows are for children. They are designed to appeal to children, and to be something children can take in without any mental harm. A lot of mental maturity comes from assocciating oneself with the correct things that you enjoy, and will make you a better person. The themes in this show are too objective and basic to be given to adults, who must at all times covet and encourage a sense of skepticism and individuality at all time.

Secondly, Rainbow Dash's tattoo is of a rainbow's end, not a lightning bolt.

Meh. I plan on getting a career in cartooning. So, it's no surprise I'm watching kid's shows.

The reason it's a lightning bolt is because I went by that one picture. I didn't bother researching the deep details on the ponies.

You don't want to research ponies, just draw them. Which one is more obsessive, I wonder...

Re: DFD, you did not just...

Researching is more obsessive. Actually, I don't really know.

As for drawing them, this will probably be the only time I'll draw them. Maybe an occasional sketch here and there. One thing's for sure, I won't become a die-hard fan anytime soon.

The correct term is animation.

Cartooning as in being a cartoonist. Not exactly being in animation.

Re: DFD, you did not just...

I am who I am, that's all there is to it.

[hr:38faacd03e]
Getting back to the primary topic, if DFD wants to draw it, let her. I don't
believe there's any "immaturity" in it. It's like saying people at the age of
20-30 years should not play Soyro games.

I've heard some people say that HTTYD is a kid's movie, but I love that
movie beyond any other movie I've ever seen. Then again ... it does not look
anything like My Little Pony.

[hr:38faacd03e]
To get back off-topic, I'd like to be an animator or sound engineer for DICE.
How cool does that sound? I already mod BF1942 in almost every way
possible, so I think working for DICE is a smart idea.

I'll admit that maybe I'm the biggest brony on this forum.  And I'm not really understanding any of this.

At first, when I got into the show, I cracked myself up with the simple fact that I was even watching it in the first place.  Then I started to really like it.  I was scared at first.  Because I was questioning my own mentality and obsession for liking the show at all.

But then I realized how popular this show was.  I never liked this show because it was popular, i liked it because I liked it.  To say that adults who watch cartoons have a bad mentality is just stupid.  Anyone should be able to watch cartoons without losing their minds.

Faust: MLPFiM creator wrote:

On TV, though, I couldn’t tell one girl character from another and they just had endless tea parties, giggled over nothing and defeated villains by either sharing with them or crying–which miraculously inspired the villain to turn nice. Even to my 7-year-old self, these shows made no sense and couldn’t keep my interest. No wonder the boys at school laughed at my Rainbow Unicorn Trapper Keeper.

You act like cartoons are drugs only for children, and any adult that watches them is immature for it.  For this specific show, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, creator Lauren Faust's dream was not just to make a show extending the MLP franchise geared towards it's main demographic 6-12 year old girls, but to create a cartoon for girls that wasn't just a cartoon for girls.  Faust explained once how she hated how girls cartoons were always the worst cartoons because "girls don't like to watch cartoons."  But in fact, she believes it's because all of the girl's cartoons out there are crap.

http://msmagazine.com/blog/blog/2010/12 … -rebuttal/

The people I have met IRL that don't like this show either are 'afraid' to watch it, or admit that they can't get past the fact that it's 'ponies,' whatever that means.

The girliest thing about this show is the title.

Re: DFD, you did not just...

Furries have their thing, anime fans have their thing, gamers have their thing, sportfans have their own thing, geeks have their thing, emos have their thing...

Get what I'm saying? All of these things are completely different subjects, but they are all the exact same thing. And from what I can tell, there are 3 kinds of people:

1. Those who belong to these groups.
2. Those that don't care about the groups.
3. Those that absolutely hate a group.

Personally, I think it is wrong to hate someone just because they like something. You shouldn't hate a pony person just as you shouldn't hate a gamer or furry or anime fan.

And another thing is that those that are part of these groups should make sure not to overdo it. There is a thin line between being part of one of these groups and over-expressing that you are part of one. People get annoyed by that kind of thing and it incites others to do the same. When this happens, people actually have a reason to dislike someone, and you won't be able to hide behind your fandom when that happens.

I dislike it because I feel the personality and attitude is too "extreme" and completely different for each character. I've seen the episodes you showed in the youtube thread, and I just dislike it because of the poor character development.

Although, to be fair the same thing can be said for most cartoons.

Re: DFD, you did not just...

Guys, it was a joke. The big paragraph of me acting as if the show was unsuitable and being generally snobby was a big lead-up to the point where I showed greater knowledge of the show than DFD. Did noone get that?

Re: DFD, you did not just...

Oh. I see it now. Good thing I decided against writing that rebuttal, haha.

I've started to really like the show. (Does that make me a brony? tongue) I've already had a part in getting a couple guys to watch it, and they both like it now too. The title is misleading; it's actually very entertaining.

I haven't seriously tried to draw a pony yet, but I have a guide and plan to sometime if I can ever remember.

Brony is not just a new term.  It was a word describing a boy who likes My Little Pony, even before this generation.  Today, 'brony' is like 'guys' who like MLP.  Without realizing it, most of us have called a bunch of girls "guys".  So, over time (especially on the internet) that terms gets used more and more loosely.

Paraphrase?:  It's mostly gender neutral.

By the way, I found this really cool development on YouTube.  Supposedly, a customized realm of customizable ponies is being created by a highly dedicated brony.  Anypony like MMOs?

The debate is whether or not Hasbro would even let this happen.  They have been kind of disappointing, even in their toy isle, where the action figure versions of characters in the show leave much to be desired.  In fact, it's the only thing keeping me from buying them.

Woah, that's really cool. While I do doubt Hasbro would make it official, it's pretty cool as a fan project.

I'd play a pony MMO if I didn't have to pay anything for it (I think it would have to be free anyway for it to be legal). Sounds like fun.

Would there be as much male slavery as there is in the cartoons? I'd rather not be forced into constant mining for super-feminist overlords.

Re: DFD, you did not just...

Either that isn't a G4 pony, or Hasbro got it wrong...As they always do with their toys.

Anyway, watch the cartoon - where Rainbow Dash comes from - the cutie mark is as I described. smile
