"Mm hm." Ophelia balanced on one leg and tried to twist her foot out of the chain. It hurt, and the metal dug into her scales. She wobbled slightly and almost fell as she twisted and pulled her foot as best she could, trying to ignore the pain.

Eventually, her foot popped out of the chain and Ophelia staggered backwards. She regained her balance and then stooped and clutched her ankle. It had a large cut across it and was bleeding slightly. She quickly glanced at Lu and wiped the blood off - she didn't want to provoke her...

"Phew! Thanks." She nodded at Lu in gratitude. "How long do you reckon this journey will take?" She asked, hunger scraping at her belly.

Lu's tail whipped through the air, but she ignored the blood as best she could; she did it with Serm earlier and she could do it now.

"It'll take about a day, so not long. I have no idea how long it will take to find them in the forest though."

"A whole day...?" Ophelia didn't like moaning, but she figured she had a good excuse to. She limped along a few paces behind Lu, stopping occasionally to wipe the blood off her wound. She was still a little wary of Lu, but she trusted her to get her back to her father and Silver. Still, what would happen after that?

For the first time, Ophelia actually looked down at herself. What she saw shocked her. She was skinnier than she ever had been before. Her ribs were actually visible. She sighed and wrapped her arms around her self-consciously. Still, it was her own fault, seeing as her appetite had plummeted over the past few weeks. Depression, she guessed. As well as loneliness and boredom. Now that she was out of her cell, she was desperate to sink her teeth into a proper meal instead of the crap she received in prison.

I hope Lu's vampiric sense of smell is useful for finding food... She thought, clutching her rumbling belly, At this rate I could eat a whale all to myself.

She hadn't spoken in a while. One of the many questions whizzing around in her mind came to her. She felt that she had to ask it. "Lu... Tell me, how did you meet my father? And... And what was he like?" The latter question made her feel a bit stupid. While she remembered what Busa was actually like, she wondered if he had changed in any way. She hoped that he was still the protective, loving father he had always been...

Eventually, the officer returned with a companion. 'Flip a coin then?'
'Fine by me.'
The second officer rummaged in his pocket and curled his fingers around a bronzed coin, and flicked it into the air.
'Tails.' called the first officer.
The second officer caught the coin gently and flipped it onto the back of his hand, 'Heads. Which did you say was softer?'
'Prob'ly the one on the left.' came the reply, accompanied by a sour gesture towards Bali's room.
'Right you are.'
With that short exchange they both opened their respective doors, and took a seat opposite the seats for the prisoners.

'So, your story, from the top, if you would.' said the second officer to Bali.

'What do you know about the dragoness you brought in?' questioned the first officer to Jeren.

OOC: I actually flipped a coin for added realism. Get me, hm?

The guards appeared threatening and menacing to Bali, and her siblings weren't there to protect her. "I don't know..." she said, almost whispered, obviously intimidated.

"Well," began Jeren, "a guard called Roark mentioned something about this dragoness. While we were coming here, she attacked me, I woke up the resto f the group, my friend fought her and killed her, we dragged her for a bit, some of your friends came and carried her, we brought her here, the fight happened, and now we're here."

"Near to here there was once another castle. Your father had been travelling for a while and was staying in a cave just over a ridge from it. I had been travelling and I heard of a castle that had been obliterated for no reason, so I went to check it out. Your father, Silver and I all met with the same intention in mind; seeing if we could help any survivors. We also met Nithran, a friend of mine who once studied under the same master as me.
"Long story short Dayn and a few of his lackies were there and told us we couldn't enter, it was apparently restricted. We snuck in anyway so when he caught us he attacked. Nithran got killed and just after he did this strange red rain started to fall. I went berserk and kind of killed the majority of the men but it gave us the cover we needed to escape."

Lu wasn't going to continue, but she was sure that Ophelia was curious so she carried on.

"On our way back to the cave I was attacked by a vampire," she deceided to keep the identities of Nino and Krucifi as well as other information on the vampires to herself. "He just about completely drained me before pushing me away and leaving me. I stumbled about until Busa found me; he tried keeping me conscious but I was still bleeding and I fell unconscious. I'm pretty sure I died after that, during the transformation. But I woke up to find Silver looking after me in the cave and Busa running around shouting for the vampire to show itself and fight for hurting me." She laughed slightly at the memory. "But then another vampire showed up and starting talking, telling the others what I was I think. I wasn't really listening, all I could think about was Silver and the fact that he smelt nice. Obviously that was his blood, but I didn't know then. Your father came back and I think he recognised the vampire because if it were possible he got even more angry. But the vampire took me away and the last thing I heard was your father shouting 'No'.
"That's it, that's all that happened. Busa was very protective and compassionate." She turned to look at Ophelia. "He mentioned you a few times. He said he was looknig for you and every time he mentioned you he became upset. He said he had been looking for you for a long time..."

'Ugh, listen kid, you have to know something. What, you just follow a bunch'a adults into potential death for a laugh? We just want to know what's going on so we can let you and your friends go and bring down that assassin, y'see?'

'Oh, right, yeah, you killed her alright. I know plenty of *bleep* corpses that sit up and bite peoples' faces off!' Jeren's officer stood up and tried to stride menacingly around the room, 'Two of my friends have just been killed, right, so I'm not in the mood for any- any lies, right. The Lord says I can't go torturing you, but hey, if you was to attack me, I'd have to defend myself, right?' He stood next to his chair and glared at Jeren, 'Now what I want is to get the hell out of here as soon as possible, so you're going to tell me everything, I mean every last detail, I am going to write it down later, and maybe we'll let you and your little gang go back to your forest rambling. I'll ask again, what do you know about the assassin.'

OOC: These guys are officers, on ol' Dorfl's level, so don't go just auto-killing either of them.

The guard's question did not change Bali's question. "I don't know! I don't know!" she insisted.

"Oh, that's funny," Jeren began, "I would expect you to know, especially considering that your friends carried her. She mentioned that she was a vampire? You people are strange. You don't fight back when someone is burning your palm, you cry over the death of a few rabbits, and now you just get right back up after someone kills you!"

((You've hit the nail on the head with Busa Phee. wink And X, unless you post soon, I'm gonna have to move on. I need to do a timeskip, since they're still 10 hours behind the others! XD))

Ophelia listened inventively to everything that Lu told her with great fascination, and yet also sadness. The very thought that her father had never stopped searching for her tugged on her heartstrings. Plus what he had been through with Lu and Silver was just mind-boggling. And Nithran... had Busa been close to him? Had he been upset by Nithran's death? Her heart fluttered as she realised she'd be getting more answers than she bargained for soon.

Also, everything that Lu had said about Busa was spot-on. Compassionate, protective... The image of her father screaming at vampires to come out seemed to amuse Lu, but it upset Ophelia. He was actually provoking them to attack... Did that mean that Busa didn't care about his life?

That dark thought shifted aside as Lu finished talking. Ophelia's eyes filled with tears as she imagined her father telling others about her. What did he say? Was his voice filled with remorse? Guilt? Pain? All three? Or perhaps he looked upon the short time they had together as a time of happiness, innocence and where ignorance truly was bliss.

He knew the vampire...? Ophelia got nervous again. Had this vampire actually been involved in the raid upon the village? Ophelia just prayed she never ran into this vampire... or she might just get angry... Or scared, she didn't know yet.

"Well..." Ophelia gasped when Lu had finished. "I'm... I'm astounded to say the least. I had no idea that you had that much of a connection with him." She sniffed and wiped away a small tear. "And... And I'm sorry about your friend Nithran. One thing I remember about my father is that he's quite stubborn - he doesn't let things go easily. So don't worry, I'm sure he'll do something about that horrible sod, Dayn." So will I. She thought bitterly.

'Honestly,' Bali's officer leant back and shook his head, 'You seriously just tag along with that lot without even looking around. Fine. Come on,' He rose, and beckoned to Bali, 'We'll take you to a cell and see about something for you to do.'

'A vampire? Now we're getting somewhere.' The first officer grinned internally, 'A vampire, right, she said she was a vampire? Very interesting. Tell you what, you might not be talking out of your behind after all. Alright, so you think you killed her. You obviously didn't. What made you think she was dead?'

Bali reluctantly followed. She would have preferred not to, but she didn't want to give them a reason to do anything to her.

"Well," said Jeren, "my friend checked her pulse, and she didn't have any. Same for breathing. He also checked her for a heartbeat. No heartbeat. Now, unless I'm mistaken, living dragons have all of those. What is a vampire anyways?"

Bali's escort led her down to the cells and frowned at the hole in the ceiling. It had allowed escape to only one cell, but it had the other prisoners riled up, to be sure. He pushed Bali into a cell opposite one of her companions and locked the door, and thought for a moment. He went over to the other cell that contained one of the four and opened it up. 'You're next. What's your name?'

'Yes, yes, but you said you defeated her, how did you do that?'

'Well, you're up next, come on.' The second officer led him into the interrogation room again.

'What part of interrogation don't you understand? I ask the questions!' The first officer straightened up. Frankly, he had no idea what a vampire was. But he had a feeling someone in the citadel would.

Serm followed the officer to the interrogation room. He didn't see why he couldn't be asked questions right there, but that wasn't his decision.

"Yeah, yeah, okay. Go ahead with your next question, then." said Jeren. He was getting somewhat annoyed with the questions.

'In here then.' The officer opened the door at pointed at a seat. 'Now, what I'm wonderig right now, is what a child is doing travelling with a bunch of vagabonds, hm? Poor thing didn't even know what was going on, y'know.'

'Right, hm, exactly where did you meet this dragoness?'

Serm sat down on the seat appointed to him. "She is a friend of ours," Serm answered. "We are all friends."

"We met her near the border of a forest," Jeren answered. "She tried to attack us."

((It doesn't have to be a huge post. Just so that they can move on. I was gonna continue their conversation, but I won't now seeing as they're running a bit late. Perhaps Silver can talk to Ophelia later? Both her and Busa can tell him about the raid?))

"Oh, don't be sorry for Nithran..." She mumbled, but trailed off. She was still quite ticked off that he had attacked her.

"I tried to bite his head off earlier, but the git threw something at me that blew up, you know where I ended up. I don't remember much of what happened when I lost my head, but I do remember that."

The forest was much closer now, talking always seemed to make things go faster. It was also dawn and Lu was rather uncomfortable with the light now hitting her scales. But she had put up with direct, midday sunshine earlier so she could handle it.

Ophelia didn't really have anything to say this time. She simply smiled at Lu sympathetically and continued to limp along behind her. She wasn't sure if she was talking about Nithran or Dayn.

The morning light came pouring over the trees, its light warming Ophelia's scales. She smiled contently. Although usually, she wasn't all for the sunshine, it was a relief to actually feel the sun's rays instead of damp, cold walls.

"Not too long now." She said absent-mindedly. "Mm... I'm starving..."

((If X hasn't posted by the time I post next, I'm gonna have to improvise and move on with Busa and Silver.))

Busa regained himself, looked at Silver and shook his head solemnly. "There were no losers, but neither were there winners." He sniffed, tried to compose himself and then continued. Busa stretched out his body slightly and pointed to his stomach. A large horizontal scar stretched across his belly. "They did that to me. I remember... I lay dying in a pool of my own blood, mixed with that of the others soldiers. I couldn't get up, however hard I tried. Because..." Busa patted his left knee, "...I dislocated this very badly. Thought I'd never walk again, even if I did survive." Busa relaxed his body again. "It still plays up often, as you've seen several times. The rest of the battle was... just a blur. I lost consciousness, that's for sure. I remember waking up in a hospital wing, 2 weeks later. Couldn't believe that I was alive. Then I heard the bad news... There were 2000 of us at the start, double the number of vampires. After the battle, there were 100 of us left, me included."
Busa sighed and shallowed his nerves. "I was told that most of the survivors played dead to try and fool the vampires. Some of them succeeded, others didn't. Some just lost consciousness and were mistaken for dead, like myself. They eventually had their fill of killing, and they left the area, never to be seen until... Until today. We saw them return."

"You've been lucky. Must've been a real disaster for you, losing so many people... And now they're back..." Silver felt more motivated to eliminate the vampires bit by bit. "We must do something!" he confirmed.

Busa shook his head. "I don't see it as luck. I see it as fate. Considering the fact that they came back for me 10 years later..." He clenched his fist and pounded it on the ground to relieve his tension. He then glanced up at the darkening sky. "But I've talked for too much. It's getting late and we should sleep. We will continue searching for Lu - and Ophelia - tomorrow." He took off his pouch, laid it down and then rested his head on it. "I would tell you more, but all of these memories that I have tried to forget suddenly being uncovered is quite a shock to me. I'm sure you understand..." He rolled over onto his side, stretching out his knee. "Goodnight Silver. And thank you."
