Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

(Sure)

Roark knew where this was going, they were trying to taunt him into giving them the antidote... not that he had it anyway. He decided to take some of their pieces from the board and show them that they were not as in control of the situation as they thought.

"I do not have the antidote, if I did the poison wouldn't have affected me at all. I will prove that I am not lying... I hope your sisters can run from flames."

With that he quickly charged up a sizeable fireball and shot it at the fallen log where their camp had been, then he fired about half a dozen fireballs in a circle. It took a few seconds, as the area was damp, but soon there were clear crackling noises in the background and the heat started to increase.

"I respect my environment, but that doesn't mean I am a tree-hugger." Smoke was billowing about, making it hard for Roark to see the brothers, though he knew it worked both ways.

----

Lu had decided to wander around, she wanted to try to find the other 'new' vampire who she had befriended on her first hunt. She looked everywhere, even going so far as to go into a few caves... she couldn't find anyone.

"Where is everyone?!" She waited a few seconds, but she got no answer.

Lu was nervous now, she remembered her little confrontation a while ago and she realised she didn't want to be alone here. She was much more in touch with her abilities now, so she used the shadows to quickly move to the top level of the Nest, she then melted into the shadows, manipulating herself into them and forcing them to take her above-ground. It was still night up on the surface, but as a vampire she now always knew exactly when dawn was, and it wasn't long from now.
She could smell blood in the area and it took all of the self-control she had not to just run trigger-happy to kill whatever it was for its blood. Vampires also had a kind of built-in compass, she always knew which way was north, so she headed in the opposite direction to the blood. She didn't realise that it was going in the direction that the cave was, if she was honest even now she didn't know where the Nest was located, it was just a kind of homing instinct.

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

"So you would kill so many of your rabbit friends just to stop us from getting the antidote? Wow... we should-"
"We have to escape now!" interrupted Jeren. "The smoke will... I don't know about you, but too much of it won't be good for me!"
They could barely see Roark or each other. Neither of them could believe that Roark was so willing to destroy the forest when he had apparently grieved over the death of a few rabbits.
Serm sighed. "Find a clearing, fly away, and Marka will find us both," said Serm. "We'll find someone else to help us."
They quickly dispersed from the area, looking for a large enough clearing whilst running from the blaze.

Marka was actually not far off - she was waiting for signs that the conflict was over. As soon as she smelled the smoke, she began to search for a big enough clearing - it would be a bit harder since she had bigger wings. Bali was actually turning out to be quite a fast runner, fast enough that Marka didn't have to carry her to have a hope of running away.

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

Smoke and flames didn't bother Roark, and he actually breathed a sigh of relief when he heard them hurrying to escape. One of those youngsters at a time he could handle no sweat, but they worked incredibly well together so he was having difficulty fighting them both. He regretted that he had to destroy this part of the forest, but he could smell rain not far off; the flames would be put out soon enough.
He headed in the opposite direction he had heard them flying in, once he was far enough away he flew up and out of the smoky canopy and into the clear sky. Angling himself towards the plains he started heading towards Dayn's castle again as fast as his aching wings would allow.

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

Serm and Jeren soon found a suitable clearing. They were glad they didn't have to go through the bother of pushing vegetation away as they flew, escaping the blaze. Before they flew too far away, Serm breathed a few flames onto the area they were escaping from and watched as they caught fire.
"Was that really necessary?" asked Jeren.
"For good measure," Serm said.
"Who are those dragons in the distance?" Jeren asked. He could distinguish two dragons, one flying away, one flying towards them. The one flying towards them seemed to be carrying something - which later turned out to be another dragon.
"That's Marka coming towards us. Now, let's go chase after that dragon flying away. I bet it's Roark, and we can't have him ruin everything by telling Dayn all about how we attacked him."

After a while of pursuing, the group realized they were never going to catch up. They flew down and landed.

"Well, now that we've lost him... now what?" asked Jeren.
"Well," said Serm, "Roark did mention something about a dragoness. I bet that if we can capture or kill her, we would be forgiven and he would give us what we want."
"Yes, but we need to know what she looks like first."
"Guess so... we'll just ask them, right? They certainly can't hold too much against them if we do them this one small favor."

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

As the Sun started to come up flying became much easier for Roark. The thermals coming off of the plains buoyed him right up into the heights of the sky and he found that he could glide for long periods. His wing was hurting less now and the sun was warm, now that the kids weren't pursuing him Roark found himself relaxing.
On days like this he loved the Sun.

-----

Lu on the other hand was hating it. As the Sun had gotten higher her discomfort had gradually increased, now it felt like her head was going to explode and that her skin was burning. However, on a close inspection she found that her scales weren't actually burning, they just felt like they were. She'd been told that vampires were weaker in sunlight, she guessed that the distraction caused by this pain is what they had meant. On top of that there were little or no dark shadows for her to use, she had to resort to flitting between shadows like a bipolar moth... not fun.

Had she always been this sarcastic? Must be her darker personality coming into play...

Another thing that she found interesting was that her scale-colour had darkened too. Instead of being orange, her scales were now a dull brown and even her yellow wing membranes were a darker shade. Her horns and claws seemed the opposite and had faded slightly from bright red to a strange pinkish-red. The only thing that hadn't changed was the metallic, copper-coloured stripe which stretched from her nose to her hips and included the end of her tail and her wing limbs. Sometimes when the sun caught it it still glinted like real metal in the sunlight, which was annoying to say the least, especially when she was trying to avoid the sunlight.

Eventually the Sun was high enough up in the sky that Lu could no longer flitt into shadows, the forest was thin so the shadows weren't big enough to accomodate her. Getting more and more frustrated Lu shrieked in annoyance. She regretted it immediately.

It was the kind of sound that would send chills up 'live' creatures spines and she heard some smaller creatures scurry away in the undergrowth. It was a kind of cross between a high-pitched female scream and some sort of bird shriek and it echoed about the quiet forest.

"Err... whoops." Lu muttered as she scurried up a tree and into the relative shade of the leaves in its branches. She narrowed her glowing red, pupil-less eyes until she could only just see out of them, in case anything spotted them glowing in the canopy.

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

'So.' Dayn said sharply, inspiring a sudden dip in the twin's respective heads, 'Why haven't we found anything?'
'Well Lord, this area of the forest has seen a massive amount of activity. Actually, we, uh...' At that point, the other twin gave his sibling a nasty elbow to the side, completely failing to be surreptitious.
'Oh no, do go on.' Dayn said, knowing that he was being overly cruel.
'Well, I mean, it's like there have been-' the first twin winced, as the second twin gave another non-stealthy elbow.
'Sire, if we didn't know better, we'd have said that the area has been visited by vampires.'
Dayn stared at them, a small part of his brain attempting to recognize signs of madness.
'Oh, I see.' Dayn breathed, and then began laughing merrily. The twins leapt on the chance to, hopefully, get out of the situation alive. Dayn stopped aruptly, and one of the twins half choked in his haste for silence. 'Gentlemen, seize them.' Dayn ordered the four bulky dragons who were flanking him.
The bodyguards leapt into action, each one latching onto an arm. Dayn thought this was rather unneccesary, as the twins were both of a rather weasally build, and the bodyguards could easily have restrained one each.
'Tie them to the tree.' Dayn smiled, 'And leave a knive a couple of feet out.'

Ten minutes later Dayn walked back to his citadel, feeling a pang of guilt, but a whole heap on mildly sadistic pleasure. The twins would get out by the next morning if they loosened the rope enough. Back to business. Let the petty bounty hunters take care of the criminals, he had a kingdom to rule.

OOC: Well, I underwent a few internet withdrawl symptoms, but I'm okay now.

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

OOC: Welcome back. Good to know you're fine.

On the ground, after flying what they deemed a safe distance away from the burning forest, the four were now very tired. They had stayed up longer than they had anticipated, and the sun was now rising.

"Well," said Marka, "we do know what direction Roark was headed in. Maybe that'll lead us to Dayn."
"I've wiped the poison onto the container of ours that used to hold honey," said Jeren. "The dagger is now useless, so I discarded it."
"As for Roark, we'll ignore him for now," Serm said. His tiredness was evident from his voice - he had stayed up the longest. "These barbarians are very stupid, and they'll probably swallow up a decent story justifying our attack on him. Anyways," he continued, "Since they had a problem with some dragoness, we'll just offer to kill her. That should satisfy them, and if they fulfill their part of the deal, we either get the antidote immedately or wait for them to make it."
"The hard part would be dragging her body to them," Jeren added, "although we could have them watch... that said, I'll do a watch, everyone sleeps a bit, then Marka does a watch, and we'll be fine."

((Welcome back Ace. BTW PF, are you gonna do a timeskip soon? I really wanna get Ophelia into this.))

Busa couldn't help but chuckle. "You make it sound like I'm going to tell you some sort of fairytale. Well it is one, without a happy ending I guess. Let's rest." He sat down, leaning against a tree. He took his flask out of his pouch, drank from it, then offered it to Silver. "I never really talk about my past. I tend to keep things to myself." He placed his hand on Silver's shoulder. "Now, I know you are close to Ophelia, so are you sure you want to hear this? She... went through a lot. We both did."

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

(Sure, I'll get Roark to the castle now and I'll get Lu to attack the castle shortly after that. In fact, I'm thinking that she could meet up with Serm and co. and then pretend to let them kill her so she can be taken to the castle for revenge... How's that sound A Guy?)

Roark had a lucky break, the wind was behind him and he made it across the plains in record time. Tired and hungry he headed inside where he was met by one of the servants, who was startled by his beaten up appearence and the fact that he was covered in blood from his leg.

"A-are you alright?" The servant, a female, asked hesitantly.

"Yes, it looks worse than it is. I need to speak with Lord Dayn, can you arrange an audience?"

"Lord Dayn is out on business sir..."

"D@mn... Well, I'm going to the Healer's pavillion, come and find me when he arrives."

"Yes sir." And with that she scurried away.

The fact that Dayn wasn't around messed Roark up a bit, he was going to use his condition as evidence that he was the one that was attacked; he wouldn't put it past those youngsters to try and pin it on him. However, if Lord Dayn saw his injuries, especially when Roark knew that he didn't damage the youngsters, then the scenario would favour him.
When he got into the Healer's pavillion he asked the Healer to treat his wing only and to give him something for the pan until he had seen Dayn. The Healer went about his business without asking questions.

-----

The shriek which Lu had emitted before hadn't attracted any unwanted attention so she was soon on the move again. Eventually she found herself confronted with quite a bit of smoke from some sort of forest fire. The smoke itself didn't bother her, but the heat would so she changed direction slightly to avoid it. She didn't know it but she was heading towards the plains.

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

Pff... Fairytale? Heheh, no, I'll promise I'll take this serious. Silver answered. "After all, you need someone to tell it to. No one likes to hide their horrific past stories from everyone. It'll always give a good feeling when you tell something you'd hide for others, apart from emotional memories. At least, I always get a good feeling when I tell someone the truth..." He sat down, gave a gracefull nod to Busa in appreciation and accepted the flask Busa wanted to share with him. "Feel free to tell me, but it's your choice if you want to tell me or not."

"Well, how will we find this dragoness?" asked Marka.
"Well," said Jeren, "if they cared, they would at least have some idea..."

As the others began to lay down, huddled together, Jeren stood keeping watch. He wasn't too tired, fortunately, so he would be alert.

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

Although Lu couldn't become completely undetectable because there were very little shadows around, she still ran on silent feet. She was just starting to actually enjoy running, despite the sunlight, when the smell hit her.

Blood...

Dropping into a crouch she moved quickly into the trees, jumping from branch-to-branch. Eventually she found herself looking at a large dragon below her. She could hear his strong heartbeat; he was young and healthy which meant better blood. With a loud growl she dropped down in a position ready to land on his shoulders, intending to sink her teeth into his neck...

Jeren's head immediately darted in the direction of the growling. He immediately noticed something trying to pounce on him. Quickly, he reacted by sidestepping as he swiped his claws upwards at the falling figure. "Wake up!" he yelled.

The others didn't need much. They immedately woke up to observe what was happening and to intervene as necessary.

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

Stupid move on Lu's part, growling to announce her presence like that...

She found that she was moving slightly slower than usual, her sun weakness no doubt. However, she was fast enough to dodge the swipe that the dragon aimed for her and then gracefully land a few feet away in a crouch. She stopped immediately, a family? That changed things.
Lu had quite a moral compass, she decided that she wouldn't attack creatures who had young families or children, so that meant that this group was out of the question. Still, she didn't understand why they were all alone out here.

"You're quite far away from the cities aren't you?" She said in a voice that was an eerie cross between a growl and a hiss. She meant to sound more friendly, so she stood up straight to appear less intimidating.

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

Jeren was already prepared to kill his opponent. He didn't like just stopping a fight abruptly, but decided that whatever this dragoness might have to say might be worth it. The others were wary of this dragon, Bali especially.
"Yes, we are," said Marka. "We are looking for an antidote to a weapon poison and we have heard that Dayn has access to many resources, so we have decided to meet him about it."
"Now are you going to run?" asked Jeren threateningly, "or are you going to fight? I would recommend the former for you if you mean trouble, but - say, what's with your eyes?"

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

At the sound of Dayn's name Lu growled and nearly gave in to her more feral instincts, she really wanted revenge against him. As far as she was concerned it was Dayn's fault she was like this, and that Nithran was like he was. He killed Nithran, then the red rain started and she got bitten, he set things in motion. However with a jolt she realised that one of the dragons had asked about her eyes... whoops.

"I got into a fight earlier and was hit in the face, its blood. I can still see fine though." She lied. "And what makes you think that I can't take you on? I blew up a bunch of guards earlier so you should be no problem."

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

Dayn reached the citadel and sighed. The citadel was dark and forbidding, said a little part of his mind that tended to squeal and hide behind things far thinner that it was, metaphorically. A dark and forbidding citadel was hardly a good place to enact an enlightened rule. He really did have to move into that castle. If only it had been in a better state. At the current rate, it would take the better part of three years to rebuild.

He straightened up into a more aristocratic pose, and strode into the citadel, and felt a little put out at the half a dozen people who rushed over. Most of them carried reports of some kind or another, tax records, approval ratings, etc. Dayn always felt it was important to keep in touch with his kingdom, but he hadn't expected to be buried in paperwork.

The exception was a short servant, who was using a combination of speech, sign language and dramatic pointing to attempt to make her point more felt. On the basis that she wasn't holding any paper, he chose to listen to her first. He held up a dramatic fist and marvelled at the sheer hold that sort of thing held.
'You,' he said, making eye contact with the said servant, 'You go first.'
'Well sir, one of your men, he wants to see you, sir, and he's pretty beat- wounded, sir, and he wanted to see you.'
'Can he walk?'
'I think so, sir.'
'Well then, have him report to,' Dayn hesitated, 'To the offices.' he sighed eventually, and a self-satisfied air surrounded all those holding paper.
'Yes, sir.' The servant sped off, quite relieved to have been dismissed from the upper classes. Sure it looked nice from a distance, but you wouldn't want to live there.

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

Roark was just eating a chicken-leg when the servant scurried back.

"Has Lord Dayn returned?" He wasn't rude to the lower classes, he had been one himself once, but he knew he was a higher class.

"Yes sir, he requests you meet him in the offices." She said breathlessly after her double-run across the castle grounds.

"Thank-you." Roark then made his way across the castle the servant in tow as proof he did have an appointment, the dried blood all over his body was uncomfortable but he ignored it. Eventually they came up to the offices, there were two guards on duty and both stiffened when they saw Roark's appearence.

"I am a part of the stealth scout group, I have come to see Lord Dayn." The servant next to him nodded in confirmation.

"Proceed." They said together whilst opening the door.

On the other side Dayn was surrounded by chattering creatures carrying all sorts of different papers. Roark sttod quietly by the door, waiting his turn.

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

Dayn was suprised at how easy it was to get through the paperwork if you didn't take it too seriously. Most of the people only wanted a signature, and for everyone else, he told them to follow their own judgement. It was incredible just how many people were scared to act without permission at every stage. He made a mental note to solve that little problem. As the clerks and suchlike funnelled out the door, Dayn realised that there was a slightly bloodied dragon standing in the corner. He raised an eyebrow, 'I hope you haven't been staining the carpet. I assume you're the man who wanted to speak to me.'

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

"No sir, it dried during my flight back here." He replied as he bowed respectfully, the servant meanwhile scurried away now that her job was done. "The young dragons who inflicted these injuries on me wanted to have an audience with you, something about looking for an antidote to a poison. However when they weren't happy with either me or the situation they tried stabbing me with a dagger coated in the same poison to try and give me more of an incentive to bring them here, to save myself as well. They were inexperienced with the blade though and didn't administer it correctly."

He lifted his bloodied leg, he still couldn't feel it.

"There were only four of them, but I thought I should warn you in case they still come here and try something similar; I wouldn't be surprised if they follow me. They also seemed... feral, I don't think they've been brought up anywhere in your Kingdom or even the surrounding ones."

Re: Darkness of Blood (A Dark RP )

'Really? Well that is interesting. I suppose we'll have to do something about them. Go down to the guardhouse and have a new order sent out. Give descriptions to the resident profilist. Tell him,' Dayn paused for a moment, 'Tell him that the order is not to arrest them, merely to tell them that I have requested an audience. Do you understand?'

Jeren and Serm laughed. "Oh," said Serm, hardly intimidated, "good luck with that. I think you'll find us dragons a bit too difficult for you. I mean, you already have quite a bad eye injury, and you're forgetting to breathe... nervousness, perhaps?" He was walking closer and closer, trying to get close enough for a good lunge while trying to seem inconspicuous. "Those guards weren't Dayn's guards by any chance, were they?"
