A Spyro MMO? I've thought of that, and there are a couple of major problems whoever owns Spyro this week would have to overcome, (assuming this MMO is based on the LOS series):

1. Spyro has nowhere near the fanbase required to launch a good MMO, they'd have to attack the general idea of dragons. And then we'd get every whiny pre-teen who wishes dragons were real. Which, no matter what anyone says, is a bad thing.

2. Player's avatars would be a real problem, becaus they're ALL going to name themselves Spyro or Cynder. Or Spyrox and Cynders. Or Dark_Spyro and Cynder_rules10332. You'd call out "Hey Cynder" and get twenty responses.

3. Another problem with character avatars is who do we allow them to be? Do we force them to be one of the four basic dragons? Or do we allow them to be purple if they choose? I can imagine a serious problem with that; "You are one of the legendary purple dragons who appear once every ten generations!" "That's great, let's go train and- Hold on, THERE'S ANOTHER FIFTY PURPLES IN THIS ROOM ALONE!"

4. There'll be a limit to what dragons can do, on the basis of their complete lack of opposable thumbs. Want to make your own armour? Sorry,  you can't hold a hammer properly! Want to pick some poisinous herbs? Well, you can pick them with your teeth! Oh dear, don't worry, the agony will only last for half an hour!

5. If you allow people to meet Spyro or Cynder in-game, there will be constant shouts of "Cynder is ma B****!" Or "I'm having Spyro's babies!". It'll be almost as bad as a twilight MMO in that respect.

6. Spammers. "YOu guys Liek SPYRO? He's so gay/retarded/stupid."

If you can come up with solutions to, mmmm, four of these, I reckon you might be able to do it.

1: Sometimes smaller memberbases are good. Less spammers/scammers/idiots.

2: Use a filter that doesnt allow names with Spyro or Cynder in them.

3: Make it so only mods/admins can be purple. Or only one in every 1000 or so sign ups can make a purple...but then there'd be people trying to steal those lucky members accounts. Mods/admins only it is.

4: Other species from LoS (cheetahs, moles) seem to have opposable thumbs. They can make the armor. Or don't have armor at all.

5: Don't include Spyro and Cynder as NPCs.

6: That's their opinion, and it's fine that they think that way. There's going to be spammers in every MMO, they can be dealt with the same way all MMOs do.

1. And smaller income. Bigger fanbases mean better games.

2. Not bad, although it might be a little awkward. I'll accept that.

3. Once again, around a third of your fanbase gone. And it leaves it wide open for websites advertising hacking programs to make you purple.

4. What, so a completely combat based MMO? In that situation you get a guy who's played the system so he's got the best character possible, and he goes out and murders every new player. MMOs need variety in order to retract from the constant promise of getting your head kicked in.

5. A Spyro MMO without Spyro? People'll talk.

6. Yes, but we're going to attract special attention with a purple dragon.

Well, techincally it's not a Spyro MMO cuz you don't play as Spyro but as a character based in the world of Spyro(AKA Avalar, ect). So it's pointless calling it a Spyro MMO

I would like to see a WOW version of spyro that has the same flying heights as maybe Fly For Fun. It would have a creative battle syster, and Gems as money to upgrade breaths, buy armor, and maybe buy a castle or something, i know it most likely wouldnt work, but i would see it as something fun if it did. Yea maybe you dont get to be spyro but maybe players could modle their dragons and look exactly like Spyro Some Like Cynder. I dont care what they would design them *bleep*, so long as there are many options.

O_O this would be so awesome. argh >_< I used to play WOW too but I quit recently

No it isn't. Spyro is the name of the brand. There's your point right there.

So, IF(and that's a BIG if) this does happen, what are they gonna call it? You can't call it Spyro cuz of obvious reasons.

WoW is not superior!  Other games have failed to convert WoW plays but in my opinion some, such as Aion are a lot better games.  This is unbiased as I am a long time WoW player.  smile

If you can come up with solutions to, mmmm, four of these, I reckon you might be able to do it.

1. *cough* http://www.camelotherald.com/news/index.php
There are about 3000 players per server. Should I say it used to be less? This game has survived 10 years.

2. Yep a filter. It will introduce unique names. I would also like to see a random "dragon name" generator.

3. I think a 1 in 500 ratio would be better. "But what about hacking programs?!" Now this would be difficult to explain. The Database will need to do the exact count and ONLY allow 1 in 500 accounts created to have the purple option. There you do. What are you going to do? Hack into a Database and change a field number to 500?
Part duex. You have variety. You know in Spyro 3 YotD there were draggies with different colours? You create wether you want to be Artisans, Beast Keepers, etc and set the horn styles, eye colours, and body colours. Problem solved.

4. Other races in Spyro.

5. You have another race for a companion to help collect those items.

6. Spammers. Who said you HAD to have mods as spam protection? Write up a script to rpfilter those words. INCLUDING any subversions... like "r etarded" or "retarde d"... etc. Filter those to something a little child friendly (Like filter retarded to appear as rainbow). All chat will need to go through the server. Why not have it filtered along the way?

7. Bandwidth and servers. This will be a HUGE problem. If all the code and not to mention the HUUUUUUUUUGGGEEEE database you need... it will need maintenenced.

8. Optional. I would love to have a OFFLINE version of the game with all the NPCs but removing the server variable. Thus they can say whatever they want and not offend anyone.

Yes I come from a community where we messed with games... (and some members were good at coding and could slither in things you would think to be impossible)

1. And how many servers, and how much does each person pay? Giving me a single variable on a question like that...

2. Forcing names on people? How unpopular would that feature be.

3. I thought of that sort of thing, but that gives certain players huge advantages based on chance.

4. That's a good idea. Clap clap. And so is your number five, which I will presume is actually an answer to this problem.

5. No answer suggested.

6. Rainbows. You're a genius.

Re: Spyro WOW Version *free to play*

1. And how many servers, and how much does each person pay? Giving me a single variable on a question like that...

2. Forcing names on people? How unpopular would that feature be.

1. $15 a month per account (But most people want to have a "buffbot"... well a buffing class to buff your toon and that requires another account so.. $30)
The servers used to have about 1000, Some with 100, only 1 with 2000. (When I mean servers I mean the clusters, basically about 8 servers that share the same DB, why not call them a server?) So about 4 or 5 of those... That is about 3000 players. Used to be. The pop had a boom. I hear the servers are all full at primetimes.

2. Not forcing names. Any MMORPG has a Random name generator. I am talking lets not have names like 'G3n3r4t07'. But names more like 'Generator'. It is not forcing at all. It is just limiting what you can have in your name. Lets allow characters (A-Z, (-, `, '), and Foreign language symbols.) Characters like (1- XXX, or Special Characters -> ♥) will not be allowed.
On the filter "obviously" we should disallow names that are flagged as NPC names as well as curse words.

I am a terrible coder but a line to block certain names would look a little something like this:

if (Player.Client.Playercreation.Playername != Sparx)
                {
                    Client.Message("You are not allowed to create NPC names!");
                }

Now ofc I have a feeling you can set it to 'NPC Name' where 'Sparx' is... But as I said before. I am a complete noob coder. I do not even have the C# program. -_-'
So instead of having like 100 of those things in the code box, it could probably be dragged to... 3 or 4.

Anyway. A Spyro Online game is 100% possible. I would hope to see it platform for the computer personally... But if a game that could be made to cross with PS3/XBox/PC... I already hear the sounds of "Isn't that the first time that has happened!?" when it is made. tongue
