Re: The fight between new and old spyro
Here's what I don't get. If you hate the game so much, why are you still playing them?
Second, if Universal/Sierra didn't pick up Spyro, he would have died. Period.
Some of you guys overestimate Spyro's popularity.
The moral of the story: This is the new Spyro. Deal with it or don't play the games. Don't go onto forums and trash the games because you whine about change.
Let me ask you this, has any Video Game remained EXACTLY the same throughout its life? Compare Super Mario Galaxy to the Original Mario. No major similarities besides the save the princess factor. Games must evolve to survive.
You know why the two middle Spyros didn't sell well? (ETDF and AHT) 1. They weren't as great as the originals. 2. (Most importantly) Gamers evolved and Spyro had to.

1. I think it would have been better if they "left Spyro for dead".
2. Spyro did not evolve. He has become a science experiment gone horribly wrong. They trashed everything that had ever happened with Spyro and restarted it.
The old levels in the original Spyro the Dragon like Town Square, Dark Hollow and Wizard Peak etc. They had incredible level designs and were much better for exploring. TLOS has no variety. It is all fighting, all the same kind of enemies, all the time. It's boring. Also what's all this about it having a great storyline? The fact that Spyro looks so small and meek makes it look a little stupid. His fighting style looks dumb as well. He's so small. It looks like a demented rat beating up monkeys. YES I AM BASHING TLOS!!!! And I'm enjoying it... ![]()

Agreed!

Well, I can't say that it had absolutely no variety... And I loved the entire storyline!
The fact that Spyro looks so small and meek makes it look a little stupid. His fighting style looks dumb as well. He's so small. It looks like a demented rat beating up monkeys.
In the storyline he's a purple dragon, making him really powerful. So it is going to like like "a small dragon beating up monkeys." And I don't think his fighting style is dumb!
Like I said, I enjoy both series, so I really can't "bash" TLOS.

LOS is a fighting genre, not an exploring game.

I agree with the fact that they need different enemies. But I could beat the old Spyro games using like 4 buttons on the PS1 controller. I got bored walking around levels all the time. It was fun but it needed more.
The fact that Spyro looks so small and meek makes it look a little stupid. His fighting style looks dumb as well. He's so small. It looks like a demented rat beating up monkeys.
Spyro looked cooler in the older games yes but how would you fight hordes of apes with two attacks? (The only two I ever used)

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
With the small and meek part...Well, I gotta say I prefer it to the constant confidence and cockiness of the original Spyro.
I think it shows more realistically how someone, dragon or not, would react to the kind of situations Spyro's placed into. You don't just get attacked and trapped or whatever the heck he gets himself into at that age and not feel a little weak and sad. Especially at the end of TEN. The original Spyro didn't ever seem to show any sort of emotion very strongly, aside from YotD (awesome game
), and that's what I was kinda disappointed with.
I'm not bashing the old series, I loved it. It's just from my point of view, that aspect of it was not so great.
To Splash the Bandragon: The is no true better Spyro game. It's all opinion.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions...I just don't want to hear them. (kidding).

Some of you guys overestimate Spyro's popularity.
[sub]1. Is that really such a horrible thing? Spyro as original fan know it is dead anyway.
2. Not exactly true. If you haven't noticed, there are still quite a few fans of the old games out there. [/sub]
The moral of the story: This is the new Spyro. Deal with it or don't play the games. Don't go onto forums and trash the games because you whine about change.
[sub]That isn't what anyone here is doing. We're merely stating what we don't like about the games, and attempting to refute the ridiculous argument that people who don't like TLoS can't accept change. I don't like to be called closed-minded, thank you. Why does a simple discussion have to turn into a flame war like this?[/sub]

[sub]Actually, the "middle Spyros" were nothing at all like the originals. ETD was a failed attempt to recreate the Insomniac trilogy, while AHT was completely different altogether. Doesn't necessarily mean "gamers evolved".
In short, I'm completely and utterly sick of this constant attack by TLoS fans. I'm sorry that I don't share your opinion, but that does not make me or anyone else "unable to accept change" or "stupid" or any other kind of lame insult you guys can throw at us. It also does not mean that we're "trashing the games" either: is a girl not allowed to express a simple opinion here? [/sub]

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
Stormy: There aren't enough original Spyro fans to continue the series. The game would sell way under 1million units and that is what game companies go by. They don't care if some people don't like the game. The old Spyro (Middle games) was selling dismally and no game company would take the risk to bring it back. Simple as that.
I loved the old games when they came out and still do but they are WAY too easy. Eternal Night gave me a challenge.

[sub]Kindly point out where I said the old games would sell well nowadays and I'll take you seriously. All I said was
1. Spyro as original fans know it is dead anyway; most of us don't care if the series is continued or not if it's going to be like TLoS. But that doesn't mean we "can't accept change". It simply means that we don't like TLoS, or we prefer the old games.
2. There are still quite a few fans of the old games out there.

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
Let me ask you this, has any Video Game remained EXACTLY the same throughout its life? Compare Super Mario Galaxy to the Original Mario. No major similarities besides the save the princess factor. Games must evolve to survive.
original mario was a sidescrolling platformer
mario galaxy is a 3d platformer
ie. the difference lies in the graphics which assuredly do require change to keep up with modern gamers
original mario involved saving a princess and collecting some stuff on the way (coins mainly)
mario galaxy involves saving a princess and collecting some stuff on the way (coins mainly but also starbits and stars, however stars are simply a reward for completing a level/task so you arent really collecting them so much as getting a reward for doing something... somewhat like mario 64 which was made how long ago?)
ie. the difference is that theyve given you more to collect
the fact is the whole "mario changed and so has spyro" is a load of bull, mario has changed very little, and most importantly the gameplay stayed the same, it is still a platformer, its just got better graphics
and by the way, hi everyone i was gone for a while to conserve downloads, but weve now upped the limit to 20GB so i shouldnt have that worry again

It's not they people are not able to accept change, but I for one know that I don't want to accept it in this case. The TLOS aren't bringing up any good points by the way. You are simply repeating yourselves with useless and somewhat insultive comments. As far as I'm concerned Original Spyro is winning this battle.

Wow, that's definately not an insult.
Spyro has changed, if you don't like it, don't play the games. I like both series and I don't see why we are fighting over this. We all have one thing in common, we are all SPYRO fans. Whether it be the old or new. They're both Spyro.

Wow, that's definately not an insult.
In case you didn't know, I clearly stated that I was bashing TLOS in that same post. <_<
Spyro has changed, if you don't like it, don't play the games.
But it's the fact that I want the old games back!
I like both series and I don't see why we are fighting over this.
Because it's a thread FOR arguing about it.
We all have one thing in common, we are all SPYRO fans. Whether it be the old or new. They're both Spyro.
But one Spyro is the original which I like and one Spyro is a deformed imposter who is ruining the franchise.

[sub]DragonFireOKN, you were quite as insulting to me as that comment was. You're not in much of a position to talk.
Yes, that was insulting, but no one said that old Spyro fans never insult people. I'm just sick of being attacked for my own opinion, that's all. [/sub]

TLoS Spyro, you mean? O__o I'd say both Spyros get "beaten and bashed around" just as much. Besides, he's a game character. =P
It doesn't matter if you never intended to pursue it. The fact remains that I was quite insulted by your post.

I really don't like the new Spyro, especially his voice, I haven't played the new games with his new design but I have seen clips, they have even changed a lot of the characters in Crash Bandicoot as well.

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
[sub]I found this post insulting, especially the bolded parts.[/sub]
[sub]Did all of my previous posts count for nothing? I have given reasons against nearly all of your arguments in that post, yet they seem to have been ignored. You and many other of the TLoS fans continue to bleat out the same nonsensical arguments over and over, which, quite frankly, I find to be an insult to my intelligence.
Also, I think I've said about a million times that I don't play the new Spyro (not that it should matter to you if I did) and all I'm doing is defending myself and my point. [/sub]
