Full Site Backup [March 20th, 2008]

Hello, all!

I am currently making a full site backup (Did you know SpyroForum is about 1.5GB in size?), so please ignore any errors or downtime that might happen while I am making the backup, it is only temporary.

I bought a nice new shiny LG 2GB USB drive to put SpyroForum on (Highly encrypted of coarse).

Thanks,
The adminstration

The backup is complete.

The SpyroForum SQL database itself is 57.4MB in size.

I'm just curious, what does this mean for the forums?

I was just letting you guys know there might be some downtime while I back everything up just encase anything happens, so I can always restore it.

A few HTTP 505 errors and 404s are a lot better than an obliterated forum...glad this place is so well maintained.

Nice!

But 1.5GB is like, small-ish for a forum like this. smile

No actually, thats quite large.

The database is where all the posts etc etc are stored, and its about 57mb in size, which is pretty large for a mysql database dump.

Re: Full Site Backup [March 20th, 2008]

Message boards usually don't reach 1 GB...

o-o

Oh and if possible could you fix the SF-only error that makes the site destroy all other tabs/browsers when this site is open? O_O >_>

I always use SF in tabs on firefox, and it doesn't destroy the tabs.

Tabs are fine.

Does the 1.5 GB also include the uploaded pictures?

Re: Full Site Backup [March 20th, 2008]

Oh, I see... Because when I used my calculator the byte-post ratio was waaay out of proportion. It turned out as if we post 25,000+ characters per post.

EDIT: Would it be cheaper to backup SF on a burnt DVD? I mean, a blank DVD is like $1.

DVD's are too frail. You drop them on the ground once and they break. >_>
I put too much faith in USB drives.

Oh yeah...
