Re: who likes...
I love J.K.Rowling's books! It was her experiance of life that inspired me to write.
I missed all the films since The chamber of Sectrets, lord that's a good film! I've seen part of the Prisoner of Askiban but that's it. I want to see the others!

Re: who likes...
I'm not really a book reader... But the movies are great! I have to see Prisoner of the Azkaban. It comes from TV at easter. (Finnish channel. You can't find it.)
I've also missed all movies after chamber of secrets.

Re: who likes...
I love Harry Potter
The books are great! The movies is some of my favorites. The first PS1 game I got was Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. I still love it, and it has allways been my favorite Harry Potter game.

Re: who likes...
I think the Order of the Phoenix is brilliant though it is a bit dark (Thats the newest one). Though my favourite would have to be the Goblet of Fire, the Triwizard Tournament is awesome!!.

Re: who likes...
I think Harry Potter is overrated and has distracted children/teens/adults from far more important (wholesome) literature.

Re: who likes...
The Harry Potter series certainly aren't literary masterpieces, but there's a reason why the series got so popular. I wouldn't say it's overrated in terms of the fun factor, but Rowling's style of writing isn't that great. You have to differentiate between those two factors.

Re: who likes...
In responce to the claim that Harry Potter is distracting people from much more inportant books.... [ahem]
You have a point, the maina over the series way over the top espessly for the actual grace of the series and yes, they are in fact not the best books on earth but, I must ask... what litture isnt wholesome? It isnt digressing any nation or degrading a race, in fact it's promoting unity and caring for all cultures. [for instace, Dumboldor is gay] If nothing else, I would congradulate JK for creating a series that got people reading again. [although I may be just speaking for my country as I dont know if other countries have let the litterly world fall into as much disuse as we "all knowing" Americans have

Re: who likes...
You've pretty much said it Brom. A lot of people like I don't really care too much if the book is written well literature-wise. All they want is a good read. All of those other "important" books doesn't usually interest me as much, so I would be happy to be "distracted" so to speak.

Re: who likes...
Its the same argument as in Eragon, you either love it or hate it. I don't really like the Harry Potter books, they bore me as well as the games. I prefer the films, but its probably because I saw the film before I read the books. But on saying that the Harry Potter films are similar to the books, all the major parts of the plot are there, just some meaningsless scenes are cut out (thats mainly because J.K Rowling had a lot of say in the production of the films). And as for HP being the same as LOTR, its not, LOTR was written like 20 years ago the only similarities are Gandalf/Dumbledore and the creatures used. But you can't knock that, wise old wizard? Come on, Dumbledore was probably inspired by the classic image of a wizard used in many different stories both before and after LOTR!
