Oh wow!!

You know how I told you guys about my bearded dragon, Spyro? Well we got him a mate (yes, I called her Cynder) and a week later they started mating! We checked her over and it's been confirmed! She's pregnant! ^_____^ We're gonna have baby dragons soon!

The LoS series did NOT ruin the fandom. Nor would a Spyro movie ruin it. The fans are doing that themselves by their constant whining and complaining about small, idiotic things. It's the Sonic fandom all over again.

Re: Oh wow!!

Yeah, do your homework Sails. A bearded dragon is one of the most popular lizard pets in the world. XD

Re: Oh wow!!

Trainer Spyro, before you get your rat, do your homework! I happen to be a long-time rat owner and there are some very important things you should know before bringing a rat home. They need a certain amount of space, make sure you know the difference between a male and a female (it's really obvious, but a lot of people don't know), make sure if your rat is female that she wasn't housed with any males (females can get pregnant at just a few weeks old). I can't remember the numbers exactly, but there are many rat sites that will tell you what size cage to buy and what the spacing between the wires should be (Martin's Cages sells good quality cages designed specifically for rats; don't get rabbit or ginea pig cages, because your rat WILL be able to squeeze through those bars and get out). Make sure you get the right kind of bedding and food, too. And, if possible, get your ratty a roommate of the same gender (or have your female spayed). Rats are very social creatures and they are happier and healthier if they have one roommate to keep them warm, groom them, and play with while you're not at home.

Woo, sorry to go overboard there. And that was just the tip of the rat-ownership ice berg, too. big_smile But I've seen far too many rats abused because pet owners think they can mistreat their rats on account of their bad reputation. Rats are  among the easiest and cheapest pets to have, but they do require a certain amount of maintenance.

Re: Oh wow!!

The province I live in (Alberta) is completely rat free (there are trained rat exterminators on the borders of the province). In otherwords, I never saw a live rat in my life. Search it up if you don't believe me. smile

Re: Oh wow!!

Oh, I believe you. I read a history on rats last year and the author spent a bit of time talking about the massive war on rats waged by Canada. So are domestic rats illegal there? And if they are, what do they use in laboratories to replace them (rats are great scientific research tools because they are very similar to humans biologically)?

Re: Oh wow!!

Rats aren't allowed in Alberta, but other provinces don't have that restriction. I'm not exactly sure what the rat patrollers do, but if they spot a rat on, say, the Montana border, I'd guess it's a big deal.

As for scientific research, pigs are actually the preferred lab animal because they're biologically related to humans (and they're used for organ transplants). For smaller lab animals, naturally mice would be used instead of rats. Come to think of it, I've hardly heard of a research study involved with rats.
