...... what version is better value than the other?

I have been asking me this question for quite some time and was wondering what you guys thinks is better to get than the other, the 60gb or 40gb?

60gb has the 4 USB ports, multi memory card slots and playback of PS1 games. 40gb has only 2 USB pors and no memory card slots, plus no playback of PS2 games.

Since the 60gb has more features, I have thoiught about it and frankly the 40gb is the one I was going for, a few reasons why:

The 4 USB ports on 60gb, don't care. I have a 4 USB port adapter.
PS2 playback on 60gb: I already have a PS2 and the 40gb can play PS1 games so playback feature not a problem.

And last of all: multi memory card slots. I would rather get a PC adapter which has multiple MS slots for about $25 to $30.

What about you? IF you have a PS3, what version is good value for money?

Okay I really think you're forgeting one.It's the 80GB,and anyways it really doesn't matter because I've seen both but got the 40gb.The 60gb I played at Sam's Club and I think it would be better to get that one but they said that they weren't going to ship any more 60gbs.Instead you should get the 80gb.I know!I have known everything about PS1/PS2/PS3,and who makes them!He's Ken Kutaragi.

The thing is, There are no 80gb modles where I live (in New Zealand). So a choice between the 40 and 60 modles.

^0 gig has no Memory card slots and i have it. You have to buy a USB memory card adaptor and even then you hav eto make an internal memory card and copy the data from the actual memory card onto the internal one. I owul dgo for 60 gig because that's my version.

Ken Kuturagi "resigned" last year. He no longer works with Sony. As for a PS3 don't buy the 80gb or the 40gb. The 80gb will play very few PS2 games. 40gb won't have enough memory.
Get the old 60gb PS3. It will play any PS2 or PS1 game and is the most reliable system. Find them on ebay.

Its gotten cheaper now. It is $700 New zealand for the 40gb.

New Zealand dollar is worth less than the US dollar on the market, so $700 NZ = approx. $500 US or less

Well anyway,I could get a PS3 80gb if I sell my(satin silver)PS2.It's worth about $139.99/I guess around $75.00 I don't know?Can some one inform me about this?I already know about yen stuff too.

PS3 starts at $399 in the U.S.A. BTW: If you get a PS3 on ebay, get an American one, they are the only ones that have FULL backwards compatability. (60gb)

One thing just buggers me.

I asked someone at a games Store called EB Games and asked if the PS3 40gb can play PS1 games. They said it can't.
I visited the official site of playstation and it stated on there that the 40gb can play PS1 games fine.

Can someone confirm this for me???????

Dude I've told everyone this.The PS1 games work for any PS3 20gb to 80gb.They must of tricked you!If there is ANYthing you need to know about PS1/2/3...You let me know!

The only ps3 that can play all ps1 AND ps2 games is the american version of the original 60gb ps3. Trust me, I've had to fix my friends PS3 three times. (He dropped it on several occasions. lol)

Since I don't have an interest in owning a PS3, I can't confirm, but:

- Have you checked for any information on the PS3 box stating any compatibility with PS1 games?
- Does the clerk know what he/she is talking about?
- Does the official site you've checked refer to the American PS3? And if so, can you find out if it differs from the PS3s in your region in terms of PS1 compatibility?

Good point. I did have a look at a PS3 box in my region and didn't see anything that says that.
And the clerk looks like she just started (i believe).

I'll have a look at the PS site in my region and see if it says anything different there.
