Re: Username Changes
spyrorocks , shouldn't you allow only some of the usergroups to change?
Like if you allow anyone to change their old username , who knows? they might change from e.g: OMG - Loser , then change back to OMG.. that is very rude.

Re: Username Changes
Usually, spyrorocks regulates what words can be in the username, and he knows when one user is abusing this availability of changing the usernames.

Ž · And I think, if I'm not mistaken, that the replacement of the names is supposed to be editted in the database through a find and replace function... or am I wrong, I dunno.

Nah, he just goes to the phpBB conrtol panel, search for a name, go to their profile page, and change there name on the 'User name' field.
[No, I am NOT a mod or admin, I just ran a form once.]

Re: Username Changes
Phpbb is quite user friendly. I could go through the database if i wanted to, but its much more easier to do it though the phpbb admin panal.

Ž · pHpBB has done a very good job in maintaining it's easy management... it gives out every option for the appropriate rank of the member.

Re: Username Changes
It's going to be confusing for some people (like me) to track username changes.

Re: Username Changes
Okay, I know that was off, but what if small fixes are to be made?
For example:
I registered on Engadget with the name "aguiluz." They allow small edits to a username, so I asked them to change it to "Aguiluz." Notice the capital "A."

Re: Username Changes
[sub]Redemption recently implemented a feature like this on Neoseeker; it's actually been quite helpful to people. At first I didn't really see the point, but I think something like it has good potential, if the name changes are getting confusing.
How it works is like this:
What this page allows you instead is to modify the capitals in your username and add or remove up to 5 numbers from your the beginning or end of your username. It also allows you to add, or remove spaces and underlines. For instance, you can change a username with all capitals (eg "29FIRES_TORM") to something like "FireStorm6" or "Fire Storm". Please note the following restrictions on using this feature:
~You may only change your username capitalisation once per year. NO EXCEPTIONS (if you make a mistake you will have pay the Name Change Fee to correct it or wait a year).
~ We do not allow you to change your username to all FULLCAPS
This makes it so people aren't getting name changes left and right (as it can only be done once a year) and the name changes that they get aren't too different than their old names. I think corky's right; it's a good idea.
Edit: Why is there no [ul] and [li] markup?

Re: Username Changes
[sub]No, that's unreasonable. The one year wait is so people will make sure they have their name the way they want it and not confuse people by changing it every month. [/sub]

Re: Username Changes
Id easily charge 25,000 gems for a username change.
Well, that could be like this:
100 Gems: Spelling, Caps, Typo and Spacing Fix. Like "aguiluz" to "Aguiluz" or "Cristal" to "Crystal" or "Dogyg" to "Doggy" or "Asmo_Vestor" to "Asmo Vestor."
1,000 Gems: First Username Change
5,000 Gems: Second Username Change
10,000 Gems: Third Username Change
15,000 Gems: Fourth Usename Change
20,000 Gems: Fifth Usename Change
25,000 Gems: Sixth and SEMIPERMANENT Username Change
(Semipermanent = Permanent for 400 days from username change.)
Also, there must be a lag time of six months before changes.
The 100 Gem fix can be used as many times as appropriate, and newly registered users can get it at 10 Gems only if they somehow misspelled/miscased/typo errored the username.
