Pokémon Go
Why is there no thread for this hype train yet?
So... What team are you on? What have you caught so far?

Re: Pokémon Go
It does nothing for me. I don't plan on buying it do I like it heck yes it has everything I like about Pokemon with, the adventure, team-building, and competitive nature. Plus the Pokestops and claiming gyms is cool. And the new method of evolving your Pokemon is cool! But it's just not serving I see myself using. I do enjoy all the footage I have seen though!

Re: Pokémon Go
Oh my god freakin everyone is talking about this -.- even to the point of going HIKING (as in walking in nature on trails/cliffs) just to catch those things for a little phone game. Ugh
People wanted to join us in hiking so they can go catch more pokemon, that was so sad to hear.
I don't see the problem with this. The game could be a gateway into a hobby they never had an interest or confidence in trying before, and might end up getting more people into hiking in the long term.
People are so quick to judge based on the subject matter of the game. I was hanging out with a few friends and some other people I didn't know too well yesterday, and I casually brought Pokemon Go up for conversation. Most everyone had heard of it and was interested, but one guy just looked at me judgingly, saying stuff like: "Oh yeah, gotta catch em all, man" sarcastically. Luckily I'm at a point in my life where I don't give a *bleep* if you're too insecure to be able to acknowledge games like Pokemon might be fun for adults.
Fact of the matter is--it's a cool social game and concept that's been bringing a lot of people together, and promotes getting outside and exploring nature and your communities. I fail to see anything wrong with that.
It's not a huge game changer for me since I already live a pretty active lifestyle, but it was a lot of fun playing with Stormy & Droid last night! I also played alongside my friend at disc golf today, and almost caught a Bulbasaur (which I didn't even know was possible aside from starters..!) Team Valor is the obvious choice, btw

This. (Especially the Team Valor part.

This mentality just needs to stop. Why is it inherently superior to go hiking without playing a game? Why can't people just enjoy themselves once in a while without someone else having to act all high and mighty about it? They're having fun; they're being active outside; they're socializing with a group. So what if there's a phone? And even if they weren't doing all those things, again, so what? I know you play video games and use the internet, so you can't be one of those people who thinks you have to be doing something productive 100% of the time to avoid being "sad"... so what is the issue exactly?

Re: Pokémon Go
Maybe you should have mentioned those details from the beginning so you didn't come off that way, though? I mean, that's a fair enough complaint, but you mentioned none of that in your original post and just complained about people enjoying the game "when they should have been enjoying nature!!!" and how popular it is.
It did honestly come off as pretty "high and mighty," yes.

Re: Pokémon Go
Yeah there's definitely some legitimate gripes about it, but that's ultimately on the people who are abusing the game themselves. Its attracted a huge audience, including those lacking in social graces. Like anything else, it needs to be tapered with courtesy and common sense.

the positive side of it though is that anyone without a car and some even with a car are getting great workouts, even though before pokemon go came out i lost 50 pounds, but since it came out ive still been losing more weight lol

Re: Pokémon Go
I'd like to play pokemon go, but my phone is too old to run it.
in terms of people playing the game in public, I would say that unless it poses some kind of immediate barrier, it's a non-issue. If you're thinking it's a problem, you should probably get that idea out of your head, because you're ultimately only causing harm to yourself. People are enjoying themselves, and you're trying to stop that because you don't like that they're holding a small device in the process. That's a fairly selfish and ignorant way to think.
I'm not sorry if I offended you.

Re: Pokémon Go
I jump on my bike and hold the phone in my hand, which is in the holster, which is attached to my wrist with a strap system of my own fabulous design. That is how I hatch eggs at least lol. I use my dad's phone because mine is too old to run it too shhhh

Re: Pokémon Go
I'm really enjoying this game with the time I've been able to play it. I was getting so tired of Pokemon and this was just the new spin on things I needed to get me back into it. I find it just fascinating how successful it is. Never in my life have I seen something that brings so many people out into the world to do the exact same thing. I always think it's really cool when I'm either going to a pokestop with a lure or a gym and see others gather around and realize they are doing the same thing as me. There's this kid and his mom in my town that live across the road from a pokestop and every day this week when I drive home they've had a free lemonade stand set up for people playing the game.
And for the claims that all people do when playing the game is walk around staring at their phones, just last night Stormy and I were going from stop to stop in the downtown area of the town we live in and it ended up leading us to a historic section of town I have never seen before full of the homes of all the original settlers of this region of IL. It ended up being a really interesting walk. (And I caught both a Ghastly and an Exeggcute, which I've been waiting for)

Re: Pokémon Go
I started 2 days ago ;-; I found as much as five eggs (three for 2 km and two for 10 km, hatched one of the 2km eggs and one 10km is on the way). I have a Charmander, Pidgey, Rattata, Geodude and a Weedle. I'm lv 3 and still green lol ![]()
^ And I completely agree to what you said, it's fascinating how much of a success this game is, and how much it did for the issue of today's youth spending all their time in front of pc screens. I wish nothing but the best for its future. Theoretically I cannot play this app in Poland since it's not officially released there yet, but you know how that song and dance goes ![]()
