I ruined playing Undertale for myself when I watched one of my favorite streamers finish it on the day it was released. I still really appreciated the humor in the game though. But as with almost everything, stay far away from the fandom.

It's definitely not fair to judge a game based on fan reception. The fact that so much art exists means the game was very well-received and had a positive influence on a lot of people. I can't stand when people just dismiss something because of "the internet". Don't form an opinion until you experience it yourself.

Take this with a grain of salt since I haven't played the game myself, but having watched the entirety of the game to the end on a livestream, I feel that it is deserving of the praise. Obviously a lot of people felt the same way and made *bleep*y fanart of it, but what can you do?
