Re: Introductions

Hello there. I've only ever been in two forums before this one. Forums make me nervous, I always think I'll screw something up.

Anyway. What to say here? Let's see... I'm from Argentina, my first language is Spanish. I take some pride in my English, but I always encourage (Okay, sometimes I beg...) people to correct me in case they find a mistake from my part. The first videogame I ever played happens to be Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Spyro's universe hooked me right in, and before I knew it I'd had my parents get me the first two as well. Of course, at the time I was just a few years old, so I didn't understand much... of anything. But it was so cool!

Throughout those first years of my childhood, Spyro helped substantially in forming one of my main interests: The English language. I wanted to understand what was going on, after all! So, through several, somewhat obscure online translation sites (Back then when the Internet was still a sort of novelty), some multilingual dictionaries, and perfect attention to my English class in school, I achieved relative fluidity in the language.

So, there. I guess that's enough about me. Hello there again, everyone. I'm just here to see what's there to be read and/or written in here. I tend to write short stories, design things, and roleplay. I'm also a bit slow when it comes to the handling of forums, so please be understanding if at times, I struggle a little.

bienvenido big_smile hablo español pero no tan mucho jaja, es mas facil si escribo en ingles

i understand being nervous. i'm often very nervous in social situations (in real life and online). the only reason i feel pretty comfortable here is because i've known the users for a long time.

you asked us to point out mistakes. the only real mistakes i noticed were when you said, "... find a mistake from my part" which should be "... find a mistake on my part", and when you said "... been in two forums before this one", which should be "... been on two forums before this one". but besides those two, everything seems good. smile if you hadn't specifically said you were from Argentina, i would never have known you weren't native to English. i've seen native English speakers way worse at English than you big_smile

Re: Introductions

Well, that's a good start, and a great way to break the ice with me, so to speak. Thank you! I often find myself mistaking in/on/from when the subject is doubtful.

As of to your Spanish, it's good! The only error would be 'mucho' used next to 'tan'. Whileas its literal translation would be correct in English (tan = so, mucho = much), 'tan' can have 'to' added to it to signify 'as much'. So, 'no tanto' = 'not as much'.

Anyway, it's not that I'm socially awkward. I like to fancy myself as fairly outgoing actually, I'm simply inexperienced in the forum area. I've moderated dozens of chats/game servers/other online communities. The only two other forums I participated in, I also moderated, but they were a lot smaller than this one.

(Awkwardly) moving on with my second long post (sorry), thank you for the warm welcome. I hope to provide some reading material in due time, as thanks. I suppose I should stop writing here if I want to see my hopes fulfilled, though. So, off I go, to do a little bit of exploring. o)

Tu ingles es muy bueno, mucho mejor que mi español. Yo saque español 1 y 2 en mi escuela, pero mi notas no fueron muy buenas.

Re: Introductions

Welcome, Backwardspectrum. Your comment about not being perfect speaking English actually reminded me of my Skype friend who is from Puerto Rico.

"What are you doing?" becomes "what you do it"
"That sucks but a job is a job" becomes "than suck but a jod is jod"
and so forth.

I love that guy though, one of my good friends. Sometimes we joke, "We are bilingual. We know English, then we know Dashies." (His username is RainbowDashies)

Re: Introductions

Hi, I'm Waffled! tongue

I've been/was a lurker/stalker/guest/whatever on this site since I was about 10-12 (I can't remember) or at least since about 2008-9. (sp00k3y!) Then I lost interest for I while around 2011 (I think) because...reasons (possible decline in site activity). However, I made an account over at dS a few months ago (not to be advertising or anything) and so I see no reason for not coming back here tongue.

Right, stuff about moi roll:

I like music, both writing and playing....and listening. I play piano and trombone smile

I love history.

I'm probably the only person in here from Jersey (Old Jersey, not New Jersey [and I bet you don't know where that is without using google maps mwahahah *ahem*])

I like Spyro (Le gasp! yikes)

My username may possibly be cryptic and reveal my real name somehow (unlikely)!

I make games (sometimes). Currently I still use Gamemaker: Studio and its language, although I'm moderately ok/fluent with it. Really wanna move on with C++,  Java/Javascript and have tried to in the past. I just find GM so much easier to work with. I still know quite a bit of HTML/CSS and some JS and am taking A level Computing at the end of this year so that'll help smile

My Granddad got me into Spyro for the most part (suprised?) I remember playing a demo of the first game over and over. Then, my Granddad got me the original trilogy. Then, both my Granddad and my Aunt started playing them (almost through to completion. Then, my Granddad got me AHT and then tLoS: ANB. Then, he played ANB up to the dragon temple, herded the apes onto a boat. Then he beat the **** out of every single...*ahem*...where was I?

And just because everyone else mentioned it, I am christian for some reason...

pwease love me smile

phew...long post...

Re: Introductions

Welcome to the forum community people group of things...

Welcome.

I'm Swaffy. I just like to chill. Stauby is the supreme ruler who banhammers the trolls and runs the place and such. 36ISLS36 is the baker who cooks to weird metal music, CuttingEdge likes pizza and likes to wiggle his fingers, Mr John likes to post short sentences and is secretly planning on blowing up the moon, Paranoia is very paranoid and also likes to chill, Flapjacks likes to change his Steam name a lot, and ... I ran out of ideas.

Re: Introductions

Welcome to the forum.

Yes.

I happen to be Edge. I don't accept any other aliases, nor do I accept my real name. I'm into music too (guitar and vocal). And as the friend above mentioned, I like pizza :v
I'm Christian as well (Catholic to be more precise). Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid appear to be my favourite game series tongue

@Swaf - I never knew you had skype. Care to share? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Oh! I have a question!
DO YOU LIKE WAFFLES?????

Oh, and also Birds eye Potato Waffles (they're waffely versatile and delicious...)

And I also like pancakes and French Toast (Eggy bread) before anyone else asks.

SO MANY FAMILIAR AVATARS yikes (from my stalking, of course   <.<    >.>    <.<)
