if all of us who felt this way would combine our efforts and work towards it, we could make it a reality. we could fix a lot of things wrong with our society. but i fear that won't happen.

Re: General Discussion 5

I've actually thought about stuff like this a lot, and I honestly don't see how it could work.

First of all, we'd need tons of money initially. We'd need to buy some land so we wouldn't have to pay property taxes to anyone, buy materials to set up people's living spaces, livestock, all that stuff.

We'd also need to convince some very skilled and competent people, like doctors, to join this society. But how? We couldn't pay them to, because if that motivated them, they obviously don't fit the ideals we're looking for. And it would be very unlikely for any highly skilled person in our society was motivated on their own to be part of such a thing. They would already be doing very well in current society because of how valued they are. Why would they want to leave their comfortable lives? What would even make them think of overturning a society that seems great to them?

Now, let's assume it's possible to get all the money and skilled people we need. Well, now we run into the problem of human nature, which would make this society unsustainable at best and completely non-functional at worst.

People need to be motivated by something. In our current society, that something is money. Remove money, and we are left with ideals, which sounds wonderful but couldn't possibly last more than a couple generations. The first generation, as the founders, would of course be extremely passionate about the new society, but who's to say their children would be? Or their children's children? How can we expect people, who are selfish by nature, to be motivated to do things solely for the benefit of others?

We might try electing a government to make sure everyone's being fair. Obviously we can't have total anarchy, right? But with that, we run into the other problematic part of human nature: power seeking. As with all governments, the people in power would eventually become corrupt, and those corrupt leaders are going to want something for being kind enough to protect everyone... which would reintroduce money and just bring us back to the original problem.

This type of idealistic society is probably, I assume, what people envisioned communism would be. But we all know how that turned out.

Our system isn't all that great, but it's really the best option we have. Living "off the grid" with a small group of friends or family and only making enough money to pay taxes and stuff would probably be doable, though.

I feel like I want to respond to the topic at hand, but can't be bothered to put in the effort...sorry. tongue

Spring break is here for me though, which means I have a week off of classes and an apartment to myself. The weather here has been super nice lately though (over 50 F!), so I'll probably try to go for a run tomorrow.

Eh, if I hadn't written it, I probably wouldn't have read it at all. tongue

Supposedly it was 67 today, but it didn't feel like it when I went outside at around 6 PM today. Still a million times better than winter, though. big_smile

Re: General Discussion 5

67? Dang, I'm jealous. I did walk downtown to a bar and restaurant with my friend tonight and it was in the 50's so...it's not terrible. Can't wait for consistent Spring weather though. I heard a forecast of snow next week...so *bleep* northern Minnesota is all I can say tongue

Hey guys. I've spent many hours for the past 1.5 weeks working on this plane. It has a lot of frustrating work put into it, but I got it flying:
http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc … 4A160D9E5/

Flies real smooth. Has folding landing gear, deployable flaps, and smooth controls (most are twitchy).

Gross. Good luck with that one.

At least the weather here is still bad, so staying inside at work and school all day isn't as regrettable, lol

Re: General Discussion 5

People don't have to immediately have to go to high school out of college. It's tough that's for sure, I'm still looking for a college myself, with courses that are at my skill level, as there's something's I can't do and are beyond my work ethic. But no one should feel pressured to have to go to college right away it takes time. But it's worth it, when you get there.

Re: General Discussion 5

Those look great Ranger.

I fries and popcorn chicken myself.

I was thinking a couple of days ago about Super Smash Bros. And I appreciated and am grateful for the series and Masahiro Sakurai's hard work. I can't help but smile when I play Smash Wii U or any Smash. I have my reasons for liking it. But a bonus is it's just such a great and well built game with a simple and easy to play formula. That will have people including myself enjoying it for years to come. Definitely one of my favourite game series forever. Anyway enjoyed seeing the now Reintroduced Mewtwo in action. Welcome back Mewtwo you were missed!

Also been thinking of getting the next Fire Emblem most likely might. That's what's up for me for now. Hope you guys and gals are enjoying your day!

Re: General Discussion 5

I've been a bit disappointed with Nintendo lately, but the next Fire Emblem does look super good. Glad it's not exclusive to the New 3DS too. Not sure what the big N is doing with that system yet, but hopefully the old 3DS won't become obsolete soon.

I will definitely drop a few bucks for Mewtwo and the new characters when they're released for Smash. I play Smash Wii U almost every day online or with my roommate, so I love the game too, aside from a few annoying characters here and there.

I agree. If they do make a Smash 5 it will bigger and better then then this I'm sure. But Smash Wii U is well balanced, quick and easy to get used to it and fun to play. So it'll always be my fave. I myself probably won't get Mewtwo, or Lucas or the other characters. But I am glad to see them in action and that's good enough for me.

Glad you and your roommate enjoy playing the game together Paranoia it really is the best when you play with friends. Guess that's why it's such a great multiplayer game.

The Big N is and always will be my favourite game company so this might sound biased. But they'll pull around. It's true the Wii U isn't doing well but it's still an amazing console with an amazing controller and great titles. The 3DS always delivers. I guess it might not be as big as used to be but it will never fail no doubt.

I would recommend it. If you can get it. Ranger, it's really fun looking, and a great adventure. It would be good preperatin for the next Fire Emblem. But it's up to you in the end.
