Buying a new guitar

i was on Craigslist yesterday, and i found this....

my_guitar_by_nfs2112-d8hmk13.jpg

i contacted the seller, and he said that it costs $25.00 ....and that's WAAAAY too cheap for a guitar.

If i buy that, i was thinking about painting it purple, add a yellow pinstripe, and replace the gold 'Scott' logo with the Spyro logo.

and yes, it will be a Spyro guitar as soon as i buy thst black V.

*i apologize if i post this on the wrong topic.

Re: Buying a new guitar

it looks cool. but see if you can find it somewhere that's not Craigslist. i wouldn't even touch that site with a 50 mile pole with all the crimes people commit with it. and a random guy selling a guitar for $25 sounds way too good to be true.

Re: Buying a new guitar

i think $25 is cheap. so, do you guys think i should buy that? the seller said that it's in perfect condition. and i just discovered that it is 44 years old. that means that i'm about to purchase some '80s work of art. and it has some modifications that i think I'm interested in. You can't see the bridge pickup of that guitar because the pickup is actually this pickup below....

SH-13.jpg
^ that pickup is actually known as a Seymour Duncan Dimebucker with Dimebag Darrell's signature written on it. i did some research on him, and one sad part is that he died in 2004 sad he was rockin' out in front of his fans, until someone from above shot and killed Dimebag sad

.....and the white neck pickup, i found out that it is a DiMarzio SuperDistortion....the one that came off of a Gibson Firebird.

and i kinda liked the bridge. it has some bendable strip of metal between the screws and the saddles that i think it has something to do with increasing tuning stability.

and even the volume knob has a low-friction potometer in it, which makes it smooth. and i think it's 500k.

no. this is way too good to be true, literally. $25 for "some 80s work of art" in totally perfect condition sounds very suspicious, especially since it's on Craigslist. people use that site to commit all kinds of horrible crimes.

i would not take the chance of this guy being legit. there are way too many criminals on Craigslist.

Re: Buying a new guitar

i researched that kind on info on another site (news site) and they did that same report. so i kinda agreed with you 36.

btw, i have a friend of mine who has the exact same guitar though, it looks alike except the one on Craigslist has a plastic nut and small tuners, the one a friend of mine has larger tuners and a graphite nut. He told me that only 5 of those were made, and they're absolute rare. He doesn't recommend Craigslist, but he recommend either Ebay or Amazon. He called me this afternoon to tell me that he is giving it away for free because he's running out of space in his house. and he was about to sell the rest of his unwanted stuff to Ebay.

..and about the guitar he's giving away, it has the same modifications as the one on Craigslist, and it also has larger tuners and a graphite nut. the case on Craigslist is actually a gig bag while the one a friend doesn't want has a hardshell case (handle broke off because the case is old and the handle can't take it anymore). he also reminded me that if there's any problems with it, i would have to take it to Crowder Guitar Works to fix any damages.

i might as well switch to Ebay or Amazon.

So i should get the one my friend offers me rather than buying it from Craigslist. does that help?

Re: Buying a new guitar

wow. really? he's offering it for free? yeah. it'd be a lot safer and you'd save $25.

Re: Buying a new guitar

If you really are gonna buy that, take a gun with you. Or someone who has a gun.

It's for protection. And also because that is most likely stolen tech.

Re: Buying a new guitar

it's not stolen btw, he got that for Christmas since he was 13, and now, he wants it out of his apartment because there's absolutely no room for it. so he called me yesterday and offered me his black v for free. it's a gift from him to me.

Re: Buying a new guitar

i don't think it's the one on Craigslist. my friend doesn't use Craigslist at all, he uses either Ebay or Amazon. and he told me the same thing 36IStillLikeSpyro36 said. only 5 of those black V's were made. and they're rare. i disagreed with you SpyroGirl101. i don't go to Craigslist anymore, i switched to Ebay.
