Spyroforum Around the World

Post your geographic location here. Don't tell me your address or anything, just a general idea of where in the world you are.

Since I've got some free time over the holidays, I want to put some of my map-making skills to use to create a cool world map of the Spyroforum community. :]

Another Midwesterner! A friend of mine from work is from Illinois as well.

Paranoia already knows where I live but for everyone else's benefit it's a city called Eau Claire in western Wisconsin. Land of beer, cheese, brats, and beer cheese brats!

Sounds good, Paranoia! smile How will you create the map? (i.e. drawing in pen, marking it in MS paint, or using a Geographic Information System etc?)
Looks like there's plenty of Americans and a couple of British members so far, I imagine you're all freezing your butts off. tongue

Yo, long time no see!

I'll be using ArcMap to make the map by digitizing points and possibly trying some stuff with ArcScene if I can figure it out. smile

Lot's of variety coming in with the locations! Luckily I've moved a bit south to visit my family for Christmas, so it's not as cold as it could be. I'm normally in Duluth, Minnesota... Northern Climate + Lake Superior = lots of snow and wind.

Pretty simple, honestly. The program I used is super slow on my laptop, so it's kind of a pain to work with, but I learned a few new things like how to get custom point images and editing feature classes and stuff. If you want to add your location, just post here, and maybe I'll get to it sometime. tongue

in the future, do you think you could you just paste the flags on in Paint or GIMP etc if the program is hard to work with?

Thanks! The idea was for me to get some practice using GIS software. Basically using a GIS stores the geographic data and locations in a table, where you could analyze it using the software's tools... but there's really nothing to analyze on a simple display of locations. So this was just for me to mess around with some aspects of the program that I never used before. For this purpose a photo editing program would be a lot easier for sure though. tongue
