Maybe, but the robot is possible. I saw an AVP robot being built and it moved very accurately like this one.

Yes but size comparison comes into effect with something like Smaug due to his size. Also I do not think even with todays standards that they could do the skin soo accurately.
This is definitely CGI, but don't get me wrong, its pretty dam good and accurate CGI.
