Japanese Link had a Bible
While the english link changed it to "The Book of Magic". PR Western censorship.
Interestingly, the Book of Magic resembles a stereotypical depiction of the holy book of Christianity, the Bible, as it has a cross on its cover. This is due to the fact that the Book of Magic was actually called the Bible in the Japanese version of the game.

I wish they could just stick with the bible to be honest ![]()
I mean i feel that the older Zelda games was more in medieval times and felt some sort of realism with the older games in terms of mystery and adventure, and the graphics was great aswell. Nowadays geeks have made it into a fantasy dungeon and dragon adventure fest. "Bleep, Bleep"

. Lol book of magic
Thats so wrong. Atleast they could have changed it to"Book of miracles". Since magic is something oneself does alone, and is frowned upon in terms of monotheistic understanding. While miracle is something god does for you.
I also found this a little bit interesting
. My favorite Zelda game was "A link to the past". SNES was amazing back then

Re: Japanese Link had a Bible
If a game can't have a Holy Bible as an object in the game, why are games allowed to have more than enough satanic imagery in them? Such as in the game, The Evil Within. And many other horrow games.

Re: Japanese Link had a Bible
True enough ![]()
I think its pretty cool in my opinion that it mixed belief into its own story. Just a shame that censorship took away that glory.
But even as a child, i knew i was in a church, in the game called "Zelda: A Link to the Past" it was called Sanctuary. Then again i wasn't good at English yet i still called it a church because it looked like a church. I even knew the person with the glasses and the hat inside the church was a priest.
But i had tons fun with the game
. One of my favorite SNES game. I borrowed it so many times from a friend back then to play it on a SNES.

To be fair, the Satanic imagery is used by the, well, evil side.
That said, I agree. It's a shame we don't see more Christian imagery and symbolism in stuff these days

Re: Japanese Link had a Bible
Well, to be fair, this change could have been made for reasons other than censorship. Like, a Bible might convey that the setting is supposed to be "Western" to Japanese people because there are very few Christians there in comparison to the west. But in countries where Christianity is the predominant religion, a Bible would just suggest a very religious character, which probably isn't what they were going for.
I haven't played this game, so this is just a guess based on talking to KingLambda about this and what little I know about Japanese culture.

Wait Stormy. I disagree heartly with you there.
It IS WESTERN.
Because its in medieval times. I mean if you have played the original games you'd noticed this aswell. It is true that it is made by the japanese, but its not in Japan. If it was then Link would have had a Samurai Sword. It was named the bible in the famicom version, because thats what it was. If you've read "Christian" Zeldapedia. Then you'd noticed that christianity was supposed to be the main religion in the game.
Of course its not that now. Now its mostly gibberish fantasy. Which is why i feel it has strayed off after Skyward Sword.
But thats just me

For some reason they used palaces instead of temples in the old games, until Ocarina of Time came out.
I just sorta wished i could play the Japanese version of SNES Zelda with English translation. That would be so awesome ^^

Re: Japanese Link had a Bible
@Steinar, yeah, that was my point.
It was supposed to be western. A Bible doesn't say "western" to a western audience, though. It just says "religious".

Yeah i know that. Its a universial religion, and not a ethnical one such as Norse Mythology or Greek Mythology. I just assumed it since you said "Western". Although Christianity has kept the greek and roman culture at bay, but its true that its a religion for all.
Well its more fantasy migled mix now. I prefered the medieval feel it had in the older. But thats just me though

Also understand that Christians in the medieval days were often ... misled.

Re: Japanese Link had a Bible
Too be fair. It was brutal to defend itself from the islamic regime at the time by then.
Crusades and the other conquering stuff etc. I don't think atheism would work that well to combat that stuff in religious sense. Unless if you are Stalin ![]()
So if it hadn't been for them we would probably speak arabic and had mosque supremacy in Europe. I just kinda wish America had the indian/Native American heritage. Since America is kinda like an offspring of Europe formed in their own way. But i guess history is history ![]()
