Tales of Series
I think Stormy and Paranoia and I are the only ones who have played any of these games already and Latias fan will soon start to, but if there's anyone else feel free to join in!
We could talk about anything related to the games, but I think I'd like to start with which one that you've played is your favorite? For me I'd have to say Symphonia is easily the best, and Xillia would probably come next.

Re: Tales of Series
I finished Xillia a couple weeks ago. (was a great Christmas present btw!) I think it's probably my favorite out of the ones I've played. Though the leveling up system with the Lillium Orbs got a bit old after a while. I thought it might give you more of a choice in how you play each character, but it ended up just being an overly time-consuming way to level up every single character. I found that I just Auto-leveled most of the time.
What characters did you guys play as? I generally switched between Alvin and Jude.
Another annoying thing...
Symphonia comes in second, and Abyss would be my least favorite. I didn't really care much for Luke or many of the characters from Abyss, but it was still a pretty enjoyable game. Are you playing the 3DS or PS2 version, Latiasfan? I played on the 3DS and the 3D was horrendous. But I generally keep the 3D off anyway.

Re: Tales of Series
Jade is awesome. I will say that. But in Symphonia and Xillia I loved all the characters, which is why I liked them more than Abyss.
In Xillia I alternated between Jude and Rowen (because Rowen is the man). I tried playing as Alvin but he's too slow for me. As Jude did you ever link with Elize? The game was so broken when I did that because of their linked healing artes! We basically never died.
And yes, the final boss sucked.

Re: Tales of Series
Luke is really horrible in the beginning. He gets better, though.
My ranking of Tales games that I've played goes Symphonia >>>>> Xillia > Vesperia > Abyss > Graces f.
Seriously, Symphonia is my favorite game of all time. I just love all the characters so much.
As for who I played as in Xillia, I was Milla for most of the game and occasionally used Leia.

Re: Tales of Series
I agree completely with your ranking of the games Stormy.
How about top... 5 favorite characters overall? (plot-wise, not gameplay)
I'd go
Tie for 1: Lloyd (Symphonia)/Raven (Vesperia)
2: Rowen (Xillia)
3. Yuri (Vesperia)
4. Sheena (Symphonia)
5. Kratos (Symphonia)
and now for a taste of why Raven is awesome!

Re: Tales of Series
Alvin was pretty slow, but was really useful in situations where you weren't completely surrounded by enemies. And I can't believe I didn't learn to do mystic artes until about 3/4th through the game. Would have made everything a bit easier...
My favorite characters across games that I can think of are probably Kratos, Rowen, and Jade. It's hard to remember all these characters though. I haven't played Abyss or Symphonia very recently.

Yeah that was pretty awesome. I think it was the final battle. I was extremely determined not to die, so I wasted pretty much all my items so I didn't have to restart.

Re: Tales of Series
Yep...
Do they make the game more difficult if there are more human players? Because it seems like the games would be a lot easier with 2+ people playing. I mean, that's how I
played Symphonia, but I haven't played it solo as well, so I don't know

It's not though. The 360 version just is missing one character who is annoying anyway and the ability to use Flynn for like two dungeons at the end. It's really not that big of a deal and there's not much different between them.

Re: Tales of Series
Latias fan: Lol, "kidding myself"? Do you know what "beta" means? Have you ever actually played the game? It's nowhere close to a beta; it's just missing a few unnecessary features that they added into the later version as bonus content, and even if those features did matter, it's still a complete and polished game without them. You're really just being petty about this, dude. ![]()

Re: Tales of Series
If anything, the PS2 version of Abyss was an unfinished beta release. It was so buggy and not very user friendly
The load times really were that slow. (Go to 2:50 in the video specifically) The worst was when you would enter an area you're not supposed to be in yet.
{30 second load time}
"We should head back!"
{30 second load time}
On another note, this happened in Symphonia last night

But there was so much more content in the PS3 version it's practically a remake. I mean besides the Flynn and Patty it had an optional bonus dungeon, new arena matches, some new sidequests, more cutscenes to flesh out the plot and create a more accurate consistency to that prequel movie. And so on. I know I'm being petty but that game came out during a time where JRPGs on the PS3 were rare.
@Lambda: Wow that's bad. That typo reminds me of the many MANY typos in the PSP version of Legend of Heroes.

Re: Tales of Series
But like I said, though, it's still a complete game without those things. Not even close to being a beta. Just trust me; I've actually played the game, and there's nothing necessary that was missing from the plot. Refusing to play it just because of that is pretty much like refusing free money because someone else got a newer looking bill and an extra penny.
Really, you can think whatever you want; I'm just annoyed because you really don't know what you're talking about as someone who hasn't played the game, and you're telling me, someone who actually has played it, that I don't know what I'm talking about or I'm "kidding myself." ![]()

It's still kinda sloppy...I mean look at the 360 version of Eternal Sonata, I mean it just looks...lazy in comparison to the PS3 version.
Story wise anyway,
I mean you could argue that in the PS3 version the additions to the plot were just lazy fillers, but it just cleaned everything up. I mean you wouldn't stay in a hotel room filled with rot when the room next door has non.
So I can get were furry is coming from, personally I was just angry because I don't have a 360, and I was looking forward to playing the PS3 version because I was certain they were going to ship it...then they didn't.

Re: Tales of Series
I just don't see how 360 Vesperia was sloppy, though. I can understand being annoyed if you were waiting for a PS3 version, sure, but to say the game was a "beta" or incomplete in any way is just wrong IMO. I haven't played the PS3 version, so I can't really say for sure if the additions were useless or if they did improve things, but just think about it this way: if you didn't know the PS3 version existed, would it even matter?
Now with Eternal Sonata that might be the case; I haven't played it at all, so I dunno. But with Vesperia I don't see how you could argue such a thing, especially if you haven't actually played it.
(I really don't think I can emphasize enough how strange I find it that Latias fan would have such a strong opinion about the completeness or lack thereof of a game he hasn't actually played.)

Re: Tales of Series
I donno, I do think furry is sounding a bit dramatic :-p
I guess you could try looking at it yourself in the view that Vesperia for the 360 "wasn't as good as it could have been?" Like look at the additions and think "I could of had that!" xD maby? :-p
Personally the thing that really got me mad was, before they released tales of grace F and after they announced Vesperia PS3 won't be released in the west was them saying "oh we don't seem to do so good with western audiences" I just thought if maybe they released there games they would of had a chance!!!

Re: Tales of Series
They have come back from that since then. In fact, the series seems to be more popular with Western audiences than ever now and they know it. They've announced intentions of releasing internationally far more often now

Honestly I've just played Symphonia 1 and 2. Others look good though.

I should get more into the Tales series. There's so much beyond Symphonia I feel like I'm missing out. I like the characters. And it's good should be interesting.
