Twitch Plays Pokemon

I think we might be the only gaming forum that doesn't have a thread about this yet, so here we go.

Twitch TV is doing a thing where they're playing Pokemon via chat input. Apparently there's sort of a subculture being born from this in which Helix Fossils are evil religious artifacts and Pidgeot is Jesus or something like that. You know, typical internet weirdness.

You can watch it or participate in this here.

Re: Twitch Plays Pokemon

I watched it for a bit yesterday. Seeing how far they had gotten in the first 6 days, I'm surprised to still see them stuck in the Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town yikes

I watched some last week cause my friend from Canada and his friend are doing a Twitch.tv stream of the hack, Pokemon Glazed.

I have changed my username from Justin Long Fanatic to EricChristianOlsenFanatic, so Justin Long Fanatic is my old name on this site, and EricChristianOlsenFanatic is my new one.

Re: Twitch Plays Pokemon

I don't understand how people can watch it. I think the longest I lasted was about 3 minutes until I got frustrated and left, and participating would be even more frustrating I feel. It's an interesting experiment though. I find myself checking back every now and then to see if anything has happened. I'm curious to know, what Pokemon do they currently have? Whenever I check in they're never shown; it's just the guy stumbling into walls and opening the menu.

I'm watching the attempt at retrieving Bird Jesus and Air(Lapras) from the computer. It has never been this exciting to watch computer/box operations neutral

Re: Twitch Plays Pokemon

Not going to lie, I'm getting really invested...it's too bad everything happens when I'm asleep.

They're currently trying to get the last gym badge. Just watched them get into the gym via democracy, then revert back to anarchy and leave. It was painful.

Re: Twitch Plays Pokemon

I'm currently watching the battle against Giovanni. Lord Helix kicked some *bleep* before he was scratched to death by Nidoqueen. Looks like we'll need amother try with so many pokemon fainted.

Re: Twitch Plays Pokemon

What is this whole "democracy" and "anarchy" thing?

If the meter is above 80% democracy, the 'game mode' switches from anarchy to democracy. If the meter than goes beneath 50% democracy, it switches back to anarchy.

Essentially what this means is that in anarchy mode every viewer can chose a button to press and it will be registered. In democracy mode, a tally of all the buttons pressed in each 20-second period is taken before a button is registered, and the button that is registered is the most common in that 20-second period. You can also choose combinations of buttons, for example start9 presses start 9 times, and downright3 makes the player go down once and right 3 times.

Re: Twitch Plays Pokemon

Taking on the Elite Four will be quite the challenge, since healing items will be almost impossible to use unless people are willing ot switch to democracy. Hell, even getting past Victory Road will be an absolute nightmare.

I'm amazed that so much progress was made. All hail our lord and savior Helix, with Bird Jesus and Archangel of Justice by his side.

Edit: What happened to gems?

Re: Twitch Plays Pokemon

Dude, I was there for ATV finishing off Lance; All Terrain Venomoth-dragonslayer! :P It seems like they've still got a long way to go though, without the ability to use any potions or revives at all.

Also, what's up A_Guy, it's been a while. Good to see you again man.

Re: Twitch Plays Pokemon

Yeah, I know the feeling...

I wish I could have seen them finish it, but I was asleep at that point. I checked back earlier today and saw Link's Awakening as the game they were playing. Now it's changed to Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal. So I'm not really sure what's next for them.
