"General Discussion" thread stopping new threads from being made?

I'm interested to see what you all think about this. I wonder if people would post new threads more often if it wasn't there. I feel like a lot of the topics people post about in there could easily be their own threads.

No, I am not getting rid of the General Discussion thread.

I don't really think so. General Discussion seems to be a place to talk about personal current events, but whenever people want to talk about something else- music, history, etc., then they usually create a new topic.

General Thread

What I want to know is what happened to threads 1,2,3, and 4. Did they reach a bump limit or something?

I dunno, when was the last time you actually made a thread? But General Discussion gets tons (relatively) of posts.

As for the first four, I think they just kept getting closed because people were arguing or something.... I don't honestly remember.

the only threads i see it preventing are threads that wouldn't have been very active, anyway. it's pretty much just a "random thought" thread, with the thoughts being worded in a way that they are actually contributing something or at least a little bit more organized.

I guess what it comes down to then is what everyone would consider worthy of being made into a thread. I think you're right that it's mostly just random thoughts, but I have been on other forums where threads like that are actually pretty common.

A lot of it probably has to do with the small number of users, too.

I initially created it because I simply wanted a place to talk about all the
little stuff in life that isn't really big enough for a full-on thread.

It took a lot of trolling and arguing, but it's finally under control and now we
have normal [Internet text-based] conversations in it. I feel like it's good
for conversations that people think aren't big/important enough for a full
thread. I agree that some small conversations became long enough that
they could have been a full thread, but some things aren't predictable.

And, in a way, it's a good place to chat in because there is no set topic, so
there is no need to get on to people for straying off topic.

Like I said, I know you all like it, so I won't be getting rid of it.... I was just hoping we might start making a few more new threads, but, whatever works best for you guys.
