GIMP Help [Anyone]

My process for gimp is a draw a picture [standard 8x11] and then I scan and upload it to my computer, I then painstakingly trace it with either Paths or Paintbrush. That takes wwwaaayyyy too long. Is there any easier way to trace? Because if I sit there for a while tracing I get bored and thats how I forget projects.
This is something I did in GIMP, took me an hour to outline, that's what I'm trying to avoid.

Re: GIMP Help [Anyone]

When I used to draw a lot I would first draw in pencil, and then when I was satisfied with it I would go over that with a dark black pen or thin marker. Then when it's in GIMP you can play with the brightness/contrast until the paper is all white and the lines are all black. It doesn't give you perfect lines like GIMP tools would, but if you don't shrink your image until the very end you usually can't tell anything's wrong with them.

Re: GIMP Help [Anyone]

I don't shrink my images though, and still being kind of a noob at gimp I dont know how. tongue How do you do Lens Flare too?
But another thing I'm afraid of would be the marker or pen bleeding through, the comic pages are done front and back, I don't want it bleeding through, and I dont have anything thick like construction or cardstock [not paying office depot or walmart prices, too expensive for one ream]

Re: GIMP Help [Anyone]

I do texturing for my BF1942 mod, a lot of it is "the hard way". But the end
result is satisfying. Also, doing it the "easy way" always ends up looking
clumpy and screwed up. The edges can end up looking disgusting.

Use the Magic Wand in Photoshop, it basically "smart selects" borders.

In the end, manually drawing it is probably the best way. Just zoom in and
take your time. Listen to some "thinking music". Patience is key.

Re: GIMP Help [Anyone]

It is in GIMP, it is the lasso icon in the toolbox, for manual selection smile

For auto-selection there's the same magic tool as in PS, the icon is a magic "baguette" (hope it's the right word).

GIMP is a really cool image editing program, but it lacks some advanced
features such as smart selecting. To be honest, I don't know all of what GIMP
has because I mainly use it for DDS image editing/converting. Again,
manually zooming in and drawing it by mouse is a really good way to do it.
But it does take some more time to do.
