i miss the old mentality, when people got enjoyment out of metal, and didn't use it as a societal pedestal for their own egos. the days when people would go, "metal for life, man!", or whatever people said in the 1700s, and not "BRUTALITY!!! WE WILL CRUSH POP WITH THE POWER OF DISTORTION PEDALS AND A GUY TRYING TO GROWL." back in the days when people could have fun with their music, and not try to be pseudo-intellectuals who think they understand philosophy when actually they only understand what the bands from whom they ripped off their songs note-by-note said three years before, when they can claim it's "original" again because they threw in a clean vocal section where the other people threw in a guitar solo.

i also miss when people who played styles of metal that encouraged guitar solos knew how to play the guitar. if you play ambient black metal, that's one thing, but come on, quit *bleep*ing chugging in all of your death metal songs! and be original for once in your life, ever heard of bagpipes? or keyboards? or happiness?

no, not until people realize that you don't need inverted crosses to be retro-thrash, and that you don't need a college-level thesaurus and a distaste for the O'Reilly Factor to be in a death metal band.
