Ratchet and Clank... Movie?

So... this is a thing that exists.

This was posted by the Ratchet and Clank Facebook page today. Unlike the Spyro movie, it has a teaser trailer already!

I don't usually like the idea of video game movies, but as a fan of Ratchet and Clank I think this one might have some potential. What do you all think?

Well I was late on this. Ah well.

>This turns out to be really good

>Nintendo realizes how successful this is

>They make an animated Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Earthbound movies

>They all lead up to a Super Smash Brothers movie like The Avengers

Something about that just doesn't seem right. Why would they ever make Pokemon movies?

Re: Ratchet and Clank... Movie?

Pretty mad. So insomniac can ditch spyro in favor of Ratchet because spyro is "Boring and cant be expanded", then go to this series and milk it dry and make a movie?

Spyro never got a movie.  :'(

Ratchet and Clank is amazing dude, seriously try playing it from beginning to end before calling Insomniac out on their decision to make it.

Re: Ratchet and Clank... Movie?

Discontinuing Spyro because they were out of ideas was a good decision, unless you really wanted crappy and uninspired games from them. I guarantee you if they had continued we would all be on this forum talking about how Insomniac/Universal milked the Spyro series dry instead of endlessly *bleep*ing about Activision. I like the originals as much as the next person, but you're veering dangerously close to fanboy territory here.

Ratchet and Clank's not really getting milked, either; they still manage to come up with new ideas and interesting stories for most of the games.

Re: Ratchet and Clank... Movie?

I honestly cannot fathom what's wrong with just enjoying the three that Insomniac did make instead of complaining that they didn't make more. They are the ones who said they couldn't make any more original and good Spyro games, not their publisher.

Back on topic though, I agree with Bzzit word for word. If there's any game series that would make a great movie it's this one. As for why Spyro wouldn't have: say what you want but the original three games had no substantial story, they were just fun adventures. TLOS would have had potential for a film (not necessarily a good one, but a film nonetheless) if not for the fact the games pretty much covered the whole story. Skylanders would have a market for a fun kid's film too I think but somehow I know that's not what ccrogers meant when he complained about Spyro never getting a movie...

Re: Ratchet and Clank... Movie?

Also, they obviously scrapped the Spyro movie and rebooted from TLoS because that route wasn't profitable. I know being on a Spyro fan forum probably makes it look like there are Spyro fans everywhere, but if you ask anyone outside of the fandom what they think of Spyro they'll probably either start talking about how they played the originals when they were kids or won't know what you're talking about at all. While Spyro used to be a best-selling series, it hasn't really been mainstream since the PS1 era (again, unless you want to include Skylanders in this).

I'm honestly surprised that Ratchet and Clank even has enough of a following for a movie.

Yeah, I am too. They're popular games for sure but they're no Call of Duty or Halo or something like that that the popular kids play these days... *mumble mumble mumble lawn mumble mumble*

Dude, stop acting like you know me enough to say I never played it. You dont know.

I have played the first 3 games and all 4 one from beginning to end. RC1 was ok, RC2 and 3 were repetitive rehashes of the first, and All 4 one was terrible.

Re: Ratchet and Clank... Movie?

Your post seemed like you were just bitter that Insomniac stopped making Spyro games and not like you had anything substantial to say about Ratchet and Clank. That's probably why he assumed that.

It's fine if you've played the games and they're not really your thing, but in general they have been pretty well-received. With the different direction they've been taking with the series lately, though, I guess it's debatable whether or not you could call it "milking." A lot of fans hate All 4 One, for example.

Re: Ratchet and Clank... Movie?

Personally my favorite was a Crack in Time. Such perfect gameplay... Also Full Frontal Assault was original, lots of fun, and cheap.

Also, the reason I made that assumption is we've had this argument before and I swear I remember you saying you only actually played the first couple. And like Stormy said, you didn't give any reasons why you dislike Ratchet Clank other than it's not Spyro. You did now, but the post I was originally replying to you didn't. I can see what you mean about the first three games, they are not my favorites either. The future trilogy on the other hand, I greatly enjoyed, especially A Crack In Time.

Spyro never got a movie.  :'(

Imagine Insomniac continuing making the games, ccrogers, but they lack the enthusiasm and motivation to make them like their first games because they want to do something more in their field. That won't go well unless some fans are too stuck up on just playing Insomniac-made Spyro games to notice that the Spyro games Insomniac made lost the charm the first three games had.

I know you are a pure Insomniac Spyro fanboy, ccrogers. I know you want the company to go and make a Spyro game against their will and all only for your desire and of those who share your views, but you don't have to keep going overboard on this like you did in the past and call out on Insomniac all because of their decision to stop making Spyro games they lost interest in making. Rowdy behavior like this from nostalgia fans are one of the main reasons why I am a little distant towards classic Spyro today.

Sorry, but a Ratchet and Clank film seems interesting. I just hope it has the same charm as its video game counterparts.

I am honestly hoping this turns out good, I mean imagine the Animation -Drools-

It could be very stylistic, and fun, or...it could just fail on every level and sink faster than the Lusitania

I agree, they knew where to stop and knew that the charm would dissipate if
they kept on making more Spyro games like the originals. Though I am still in
favor of someone making modern (HD) remakes of those three originals, but
that is for a different thread somewhere else.

As for this movie, I am actually pretty interested in it. I never owned a R&C
game in my life, but I always thought of it as fun, creative, and inspiring.

The animation style is just like the games too which makes it good. Still have to see more. I am a Rachet and Clank fan myself. But need too see a little more before I check it out.

From what I've heard all the original voice actors of the games is coming back for this one. So expect this guy to be Ratchet.
