December 21st, 2012

Is this the end of the world? You decide and discuss, no flamming others idea's.

My opinion- World may not end but something important id going to affect humans.

Best possible fact: It is proven that on Dec. 21. 2012 that earth will shift from one side of the galaxy to the other, which causes polar shiff (Not good) this means that earth's poles will change places. (north pole could be in africa.) It has been proven that this has happened before and will happen again on Dec. 21, 2012.

Other sources that say that the world will end on Dec. 21, 2012.
- Mayan calender ends on Dec. 21 2012. (They accurately predicted that major weather disasters will incease in the early 21st century. Tsunami's of 2004 and hurricane katrina.) They also predicted many wars and increased terrorist attacks will lead up to the end of days.

Oh, forget this here's a video- http://youtube.com/watch?v=11iCmzGnOI8

Please no flamming others ideas, just say what you think.

One more thing, It is said in many cultures that the power of the east (China) will be the dominate power on Earth. Guess what, in a couple years China WILL (proven fact) become a world superpower along side the U.S.A, and by 2012 will be the strongest nation on earth.

Scary, yet interesting at the same time. I wonder how the Mayans predicted it?

I won't be sure until we get warning that it actually comes to happen. Besides, the mention of "increased terrorist attacks" and "increased discrimination of humankind" is just silly. -.-

Re: December 21st, 2012

Is it all coensidence? Or is it true? So many facts, so many religions all add up to one date.... December 21st 2012. Is it true or is all this proof false? Only time will tell.

Rexy- What about 9/11 or the london threats? All the increased security. I'd say its true. Discrimination? Rascism? All true. Even in the U.S

Re: December 21st, 2012

i had a weird dream. it was one of those dreams that you can't quite tell if it was reality or just a dream anyway....

I open the bible, and it opens to one of the last pages in Revalations, and then the last sentence on that page said "and it will all end in the year 2047"

weird huh??

Re: December 21st, 2012

Okay, a few points I'd like to clear up to the uneducated people here. One, the planet will not shift along the galaxy in 2047. Check your sources next time. Get it from an actual credible news organization, like NASA, not doomsday websites. The poles of the planet can not shift due to their moving along in the universe or galaxy. They are based on the sun and the gravity of the core of the planet. Unless the physical structure or mass of the earth changed, the poles could not change. Secondly, if the sun moved position, we would move in perfect unison with it. That's because we are forever stuck to the sun on that unchangeable thing known as gravity. The sun can go whereever it wants, and we are stuck for the ride.

The Mayan calendar does not 'end', rather is restarts itself. The poles do not change, rather the earth reaches a certain point, then starts its shift again.

Over a year's time the Sun transits through the twelve houses of the zodiac. Many of us know this by what "Sun sign" is associated with our birthday. Upping the scale to the Platonic Year - the 26,000 year long cycle - we are shifting, astrologically, from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius. The Mayan calendar does not really "end" in 2012, but rather, all the cycles turn over and start again, vibrating to a new era. It is as if humanity and the Earth will graduate in the eyes of the Father Sun and Grandmother Milky Way.

Source

As for increased weather changes, there might be more hurricanes, but that's just a result of global warming. The numbers of earthquakes, tornados, volcanos are just the same as the were before.

Also, a major part of China is below the sea level. If global warming was to continue and increase the number of storms you say, then that also means that the millions of gallons of water from melted glaciers would increase the amount of water in the ocean by several feet. What does that mean? It means a majority of mainland China will be under water. Sure, they can protect certain areas, but China will effectively become a third-world country if global warming continues on its path. America and Russia will not have significant flooding issues, except in Florida.

Finally, for increased terrorist attacks and wars, this is a big wrong misconception. Did you live during the Cold War? That was the war that everyone was certain would destroy the earth. It was when Russia and the United States came closer to the brink of destroying every living thing on the planet than ever before. And today? Wars are not fought large scales anymore. They are small proxy wars fought in smaller countries.

Systematically speaking, the chances of the earth being destroyed by a nuclear war are getting smaller every year, as the world powers use stricter nuclear weapon laws, disarm many of their own nukes, and build and develop nuclear missile shields. If the earth was going to be destroyed by nukes, it would have happened during the Cold War. Read about it, you just might learn something.

And this wasn't covered, but I'll bring it up anyway. Nostrodamos. If you don't know who he is, he's a man who made a large amount of 'supposed' predictions. He even made a lovely prediction of the end of the world. Let's shine some light on that.

Nostradamus did not write the quatrain that was widely attributed to him in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. (One wonders how a guy who died in 1566 could have written an item identified as being penned in 1654 a web-published essay on Nostradamus. That particular quatrain was offered by the page's author, Neil Marshall, as a fabricated example to illustrate how easily an important-sounding prophecy could be crafted through the use of abstract imagery. He pointed out how the terms he used were so deliberately vague they could be interpreted to fit any number of cataclysmic events.

Here's the full article.

Here's the article the student wrote about it.

There we go.

Re: December 21st, 2012

As I said, Loneknight this is a guess and I was watching this show on Sci-fi. (Kidding) I saw it on discovery channel and the Mayan calender does end. (They were talking to an expert) Nasa has confirmed that polar shift does occur (I would provide you with a link but I saw on t.v when I was in CA.) Polar shift will occur on Dec. 21st 2012 it is proven that it has happend before. When a solar system crosses from one side of the milky way to another it causes gravity to reverse therefore causing the poles to shiff places. P.S. I also study with an AP Earth Science major from Ohio state, and he showed me proof. (Dont ask for it cause' I dont know calculus.

And for the Nukes. There wont be a world war 3 but will be a threat of nuclear powers. (Iran, Pakistan, North Korea) Little countries will try to show how strong they are therefore causing world tension.

Re: December 21st, 2012

I've got a few things to say on this, and I'm not flaming, just saying.  Here's the things I've heard were predicted and didn't happen:  Lancelot predicted the end in the 1800s and something else predicted Y2K (year 2000), didn't happen.  No one really knows what will happen.  Many say the world might not end in our lifetimes (a few predict in 2500-125000 A.D), and yeah Newton did predict in 2060 (I kinda follow that one, and it still scares me for some reason, and I'll be 60 something then!).  I just hope it's not in 2012...I'll only be 20 years old  :'( .

EDIT: I know you were just guessing, but I'm just saying what I've heard)

Re: December 21st, 2012

Let me say this and I'm not flamming anyone but the only reason that people thought the world would end in 2000 was because it was the turn of the millenium. One thing i think is weird though, it sound right, 2012. It just doesnt seem like 2013 is even a year u know? Count up from 2007- 2015. Notice anything different about 2013? I do, it doesnt sound right, Call me crazy but i think that is weird. Doesnt 2012 just seem like the last chapter in a book? Nothing else is coming, the end? It does to me.

Re: December 21st, 2012

well think about it, if one person (or a small handful of people) take up all of the money, then our economy will collapse. thats wot happened before the Great Depression. like 12 families held 95% of the USA wealth, which broke our economy.

Re: December 21st, 2012

Nucular wars? Probally the most probable end of the planet. Thing with that is many people have the sence to know what will happen if ceartan peple got ahold of such weapons, and those who don't are probally never going to get ahold of them in the first place. About the great deperssion, it was every person in the US causing problems, spending money they diddn't have, spending money left and right, the whole thing was like a piple that just grows and grows till *POP* a pussie mess[oh boy, careful about that spelling their!! dont want to spell "Puss" wrong]

Re: December 21st, 2012

There's also a very slight possibility that a meteor will strike Earth around 2021 (can't remember the exact date). Read this off a science news article if I remember correctly.
But no one can say when the end of the world will be.
A group of people can say the world will end in 2010 and make a huge lie or coincidence to support it. Next thing you know, hundreds of thousands of people believe it.
It's just like the news.
Here's an example going on right now:
Almost everyday you hear about all these deaths in Iraq. Soldiers are dying and bombs are killing off many. What many don't know is that we're actually doing exceedingly well. We may have a very high wounded rate, but we have a low death rate among soldiers. Day by day casualties are lowered and terrorist attacks are subsiding. Things are continually getting much better.
But the media doesn't want to say that because they want people to watch them.
Ok, I'm too tired to keep going on right now, haha.
So, no. I don't think the world will end that soon. We'd be caring less about what's going on right now. But hey, as long as I graduate before the world ends, then I'm happy. big_smile

Re: December 21st, 2012

Frankly, I don't really care about any of this stuff. Most information said about this turned out to be false. Don't argue with me, its just that this information about the world ending is basically telling us to care for the planet more.

And about the meteor colliding into earth (was it 2012 or 2020, I know this was true as real astronomers predicted this) the people who found out the information said it may hit earth, didnt say anything about actually colliding into it.

Re: December 21st, 2012

I know its a big off topic but the troops in iraq arn't really there for a "war"...
They are just settling the oil dispute, finding those nasty terrorists and trying to get Iraq to be a democratic country

Re: December 21st, 2012

The meteor won't hit us. They said it will barely pass us by, we will be able to see it with a naked eye. It's coming close to us, but it won't hit us. And as for the poles of the earth shifting, if it moved, it wouldn't move anything more than north and south flipping. The poles would remain poles.

I do not, however it was in a PBS show so I would check their website, I believe it was an episode of Nova. In it acording to measurements, the North Pole is moving toward Sibira (Russia) and is accelrating 10 km a year.

Re: December 21st, 2012

I havent heard that they are moving already, and the meteor will pass us by unharmed. But Loneknight you are right in some ways and wrong in others. First off, we dont know EXACTLY whats going to happen. All we know is that polar shift will cause the poles to move. The poles could just reverse as you said, but they could also move to somewhere else. Albert Einstein predicted that polar shift would cause the poles to change locations as our planet aligns with the center of the milky way. This has happened before, because there have been strange rock formations found in India which could only be found in an Antarctic climate for millions of years. So the north pole has been somewhere around India in the past. The truth is we dont know where they are going to be.

Even if the poles simply reverse it wont happen quicky which would cause deady changes in the atmosphere.
