Xbox 720?

Not a lot about the system most likely Microsoft is saving information for E3 but with The Nintendo Wii U out and Playsation 4 announced! Wonder when the info regarding it will be revealed it's been pretty hush, hush so far.

Re: Xbox 720?

Even if it gets announced i wont get it.
I dont like Xbox Consoles for good reasons.

The biggest reason is that their online play is not free, while PS3, Wii, Wiiu, and every other console is.

That too.

Not to mention the very very high failure rate on the 360.

(Wii Fail was 5% per year, PS3 was 20% per year and 360 was 45% per year)
*Look that info up online.

Re: Xbox 720?

Quick explanation, and I'll be out of here.

Wii: Most purchased but least used/played among the consoles
PS3: Average purchase rate, average usage rate among the consoles
Xbox: Less purchased than above, most usage out of all consoles

Minutes per month:
Xbox: 1191
PS3: 1053
Wii: 516

[Source]

Generally speaking, people who bought an Xbox play it a lot more than
people who bought other consoles. CCRoger's posted stats are a bit off,
according to that PDF file by SquareTrade. Also, it says "customer-reported
failure rates" which means that there can still be customers who didn't
report any problem[s] with their system. On top of that, the failure rate can
be directly correlated to the usage rate. (Xbox users put a lot of stress on
the system; system stress can cause failures on any system.)

I'm pretty sure this new "Xbox 720" will have a much lower usage rate and
Playstation will finally get a chance to out-shine Xbox.

Don't forget about the whole no Used games thing as well.

Think about it: effectively, what does banning used games do?
it increases the price of your games.

let's say game A comes out on all 3 consoles
price on nextbox: 60 bucks
price on WiiU4: 60 bucks MINUS the refund you get from gamestopo

this means that the effective price you need to pay in order to play any given multiplat game on nextbox is going to be 20-30 bucks higher than on WiiU and PS4.
how long do you think people are going to go along with this?
I bet that the nextbox will make decent money early on, but once consumers realize they are being *bleep*ed, it'll crash like a lead duck.

Re: Xbox 720?

The main "theory" (EDGE rumor) right now is that Xbox 720 will include a Blu-Ray drive but will involve storing the games inside the system's hard drive. It is also included in the same main rumor (from EDGE) that the 720 will require the next Kinect to be used in order for the system to function at all, and that it will have to be connected to the Internet at all times. They're calling it "Always on, always connected." This is referring to the system's ability to be "on" at all times, albeit at limited functionality.

The evidence seems to suggest that these rumors have some truth to them, though I'll personally believe it when I see it. Not having used games will be a hit, but it's not exactly been a failure when other companies have implemented it (iOS, Steam, Android), so I suppose it wouldn't be unheard of for Microsoft to try it.

This being said, games most likely won't be 20-30 dollars higher than on Wii U and PS4. That would be suicide by Microsoft. They're in enough trouble already because PS4 looks like an absolute monster if its priced right, and Wii U is looking more and more like Gamecube V2. Time will tell if Mario and Link can save the day for Nintendo (Note: they failed to do that in Gen 6).

Expect an announcement sometime before E3. It wouldn't be wise for them to do that as E3 this year needs to be focused on what the systems have to offer game-wise, not spent showing off a console for 45 minutes and presenting a couple demos here and there and promises for the future.

Haven't decided which console I'll get, but I do hope Microsoft doesn't completely blow it. The more competition the better.

Re: Xbox 720?

Microsoft is already going the suicide way.

First Windows 8 was a mass flop, and if the next xbox has the no used game thing, and if it has paid online, im sure it will fail.
You can only fork over fans for so long. How long will xbox fantards keep paying for XBL when us PS, Nintendo and Steam users play free?

Windows 8 being lackluster is definitely not a sign of the company going the suicide way. Microsoft is absolutely massive and can take a ton of hits and still have the money to put out a new console. While I'm not a fan of Windows 8 on desktops or non-touch laptops, it is quite nice on a full Windows tablet (Not Android, ST, or iOS).

Anywho. Playstation Plus isn't free and it's Live's biggest competitor in the console market. Nintendo's online system always has been a joke. Steam is nice, yes, but its not really in direct competition with Xbox. It's more like comparing gaming PCs with consoles. Of course from a technical standpoint the PC dominates them, but the vast majority of the gaming audience don't own gaming PCs and are quite satisfied with consoles.

Windows 8 wasn't a massive flop. From what I can see, most people saying it was are people looking at it and going '...yeah I don't like the start menu, loads of features look bad...' when really they haven't used it for themself... That said, I also don't really like it, and it' apparently optimised for tablets which could explain why it sucks.

As for XBL being paid for... well, it kind of makes sense. XBL is a very good mulltiplayer experience, and it far exceeds that of the Wii, although it's pretty *bleep* similar to the functionality of Steam and PS. Although I don't see why exactly they're making people pay for it... it's not such a bad thing. Doesn't cost that much, and I highly doubt people are just going to decide to stop paying them, they'll always have the new fans that haven't decided to stop paying them yet. And... you know, not all of the people on XBL are fantards. Just saying.

Re: Xbox 720?

I like DFOKN's and Hwd's replies. I see quite a bit of common sense in there
too. XD Yes, not all of us are fantards. Windows 8 was mainly built for
systems that use touchscreens such as tablets and touchscreen monitors
for desktops. I am sticking with Win 7 because I have an LCD flat-panel.

About Steam. I honestly don't understand it, but mainly because I've never
used it. I don't understand why a person should need to use Steam if the
video game can just be installed by itself. Why do we need Steam to play a
game? Is it for getting in games with other people (multiplayer)? Better
communication? I am simply curious.

Now back to Xbox. DFOKN said "... and that it will have to be connected to
the Internet at all times." Wow, this really sucks. What if the LAN in your
house goes out, or you take your system to a house without Inernet (or
dial-up, God save us all)? If you don't have Internet access, I don't think
we'll be able to play our games. Sounds like a privacy issue to me, I would
feel like I was being watched or something (even if I'm not). Kind of like
"always hold my hand so I know where you are and what you're doing."

I completely understand what you are explaining, but I think it only applies to
part of the players. There are still people like me who never want to sell
his/her video games, therefore the price will usually be the same. And I
normally buy the brand new game because I don't trust used disks much. I
don't like scratched disks (at aaalllll) and I like an undamaged box/case.

Re: Xbox 720?

I'm not touching it if they keep the require to pay for online gaming. Don't play the 360 enough to even bother paying for online since the months i did have a gold membership. I was only using it a few days a month and mainly with friends.

Playstation 4 needs a price first before I consider when I'll get one.

Re: Xbox 720?

Im staying with current gen consoles if the following happen:

Xbox 3 has pay to play online  (really retarded since all other systems are free online play)
PS4 is priced over $400. Paid 599 for a PS3 back in 08. Not paying that much again.
No good games. (At the moment, i find no games im interested in on PS4)
