Sheesh. I guess some wounds never heal, not even 6 months later.

I guess not. still im surprised people would keep there jobs on ships affter that...

Well, some believed that it was the crew or captain's fault for steering into the iceberg, when it was actually the fault of the RMS Olympic's collision with the HMS Hawke. The Titanic would've sailed in March, but had to move to April because she had to be moved from her dock to fit her sister, Olympic, so she could get repairs. Funny thing is, the one who would be in charge of the Titanic on her maiden voyage, Captain Edward J. Smith, was in charge of the Olympic when she collided with the Hawke. Plus, the Titanic's near collision with the SS New York in Southampton could've shed some hours off.

And even creepier... in 1898, a man named Morgan Robertson wrote a story called ''Futility, or The Wreck of the Titan.'' It depicts a ship sailing from new york to England, and being called unsinkable. Halfway across, the ship strikes an iceberg and sinks, and lots of people die. He also wrote a story about a Hawiian base of Americans being attacked by the Japanese (40 years before Pearl Harbor.) He died in 1914, living long enough to see his story come true.

Another bump. Today, in 1918, the ship that rescued the Titanic survivors, Carpathia, was torpedoed and sunk by U-55.

Bump. Some one on DA made a pretty realisitic animation of the animation. The only thing he/she missed is the funnels falling, rockets firing, lifeboats lowering, and the breakup.

Not really, because it's history, and there are millions of Titanic sinking animations all around.

Re: R.M.S. Titanic's 100th Anniversary.

Purposeful bump.

96 years ago today, Titanic's younger and twin sister, Britannic met her death while on route to pick the wounded in Greece when she was mortally wounded by an explosion by a mine (some still think it's a torpedo) and sank in 55 minutes, almost 3 times faster than Titanic when she sank 4 years previously....

Britannic was the third and largest Olympic-class ocean liner of the White Star Line. She was the sister ship of Olympic and Titanic, and was originally intended to be a transatlantic passenger liner in 1915. She was launched just before the outbreak of World War I and was laid up at her builders in Belfast for many months before being requisitioned as a hospital ship from her storage location and was repainted white with large red crosses and a horizontal green stripe and was later renamed HMHS (His Majesty's Hospital Ship) Britannic. In her brief months of life, she was under the command of Captain Charles A. Bartlett, who was the last to leave the ship when it sank. He was one of the survivors who lived to tell the tail the sinking and was convinced that the Germans had sunk his ship in cold blood.

There were a total of 1,066 people on board the ship, with 1,036 survivors taken from the water and lifeboats, about two hours after the ship sank at 9:07 am. 30 lives were lost. Britannic was the largest ship lost during the First World War. Even now, 96 years after the sinking, people debate whether she was hit by a mine or a torpedo. The evidence mostly conforms that she was hit by a mine.

Britannic's sinking would forever change the White Star Line, delivering the company it's second biggest and tragic loss..... but in death, she remains well preserved at the bottom of the Kea Channel to this day, a beautiful ship who met her fate prematurely. She lived her short life in the shadow of her famous and older sister ship, Titanic. Britannic may not be as famous as Titanic, but to us and many others who have learnt about her, she has engendered a sense of mystery, fascination and awe that is entirely her own.

R.I.P.

Speaking of titanic the Itv minnie series had me in tears the other night, the second episode right at the end when the Irish couple make up and put there regrets behind them, and then run towards the collapsable deciding if there both to die, there to die fighting, it just a very sweet moment :3

Re: R.M.S. Titanic's 100th Anniversary.

A bump that may interest some people. A new documentary just came out about the Titanic, the Britannic, and the Olympic, called the Curse of the Titanic Sisters. You can preorder it on Amazon, or whatever website that sells dvds. The info on it says:

They were created to be the world’s safest ocean liners. Yet, they all were involved in maritime disasters.

Order this compelling documentary that investigates the Olympic, Titanic and Britannic from inception to disaster.

It was. But in it's service it caught fire, collided with a destroyer (actually messing up Titanic's departure date), and sank a lightship. What matters was, they all got into disaster at some point, some more than others.
