Please tell me it the a coin it. 1 in99 ratio i mean thats the dumbest thing i herd and My friend never shuts up about it. Everytime i say flip a coin shes like no QI says its 1 in 99 chance so its not worth doing!

I'm not sure I understand what you just said hmm

Basicly Qi said a coin does not have a 50/50 chance on landing on heads or tails, apparently it is 1/99 chance, so my friend says.

A coin isn't a regular cylindrical shape, so of course the chance of it landing on heads isn't going to be exactly the same as landing on Tails, but it's no a 1/99 chance... that's just ridiculous.

Heads ∨ Tails = 100% chance.

I haven't done Stats in a while, am I correct in saying that ∨ means 'or'? I forgot what the technical term is, but I know that the correct term for 'and' is 'union'.

Re: Phobias

Union (∪) and intersection (∩) are used for sets. ∨ is an inclusive or, so if either condition true, the whole thing is true.

Re: Phobias

Boolean algebra my friend.

You now understand the joke that, when someone asks an 'or' question, people just say 'Yes'.

I thought that that joke was just funny because 'yes' isn't an option... But this works as a much better explanation for the joke big_smile

There was a robot character in Mass Effect 2 that answered an "or" question that way. It felt kind of good that I got the joke. tongue

Those kind of people don't know what they're saying then.

Seriously, you repeat something enough as an 'inside joke' and others will start to repeat it without knowing what it even means; like a meme.

or perhaps it's just an innocent attempt at humor with no unnecessarily academic backstory.

Perhaps. That's kind of what I thought it was.
