Job searching
I feel like I've been posting a lot about this in General Chat, sometimes interrupting other conversations, so instead of that...
Anyone else looking for a job right now? If you already have a job, what is it and how did you get it?
I'm going to be moving in to my first apartment this summer (this means finally getting out of my parents' house and/or dorms filled with obnoxious children), so I'm going to have to find a job to help pay for rent and tuition. After going through this process many, many times in previous years, I know it's basically the most depressing thing ever when all the applications you put tons of work into get you nothing, not even a phone call. I've even applied at a temporary agency once that never called me back, and it's their job to find work for people. So yeah, not looking forward to starting this again.
I'm just sick of it; I wish I could just find one job and keep it, preferably something I'm studying for, but at this point I'll pretty much take anything. My dad says freelance programming might be an option, so I might look into that, if only because I'm so sick of the formal hiring process.
Sorry for the kind of long rant, but I'm sick of talking to people who already have jobs saying "oh it'll all work out! Just be patient and keep a positive attitude and you'll get something!" It's like, yeah, easy for you to say, how's that $20 per hour full time job treating you?

Re: Job searching
Better start early if you want to have a chance. By the time it's actually summer, they'll be done hiring temporary employees and those employees will be starting already. I learned that the hard way last summer when I started applying in May and got no calls back until July and August when summer was already almost over.

Re: Job searching
I had a job last summer at a business that cleaned industrial manufacturing robots for refurbishing. $10 friggin dollars an hour and free lunch! Sadly the workflow is very inconsistent and they haven't had work for a few weeks.
Yo, Spyro
I'm really happy for you, but Jazz Jackrabbit is one of the best platformers of all time.

I have too much college work to get a job. But best of luck, Stormy.

Re: Job searching
Thanks.
Updating this to say I might have another interview coming up. This time it's with the group that makes this app. They apparently want college students this time since they sent it to my school.

Re: Job searching
I work in a Coffee shop. 'Tis pretty okay, and I get paid $8.10 AUD. but I get the feeling our societies are completely different, so I would be no help.

Re: Job searching
I imagine it feels frustrating and disempowering to endure the job searching routine and have no success. And it seems disrespectful of the companies and job-seeking agencies to not let you know how you even went with your job application. You're just left... hanging.

Good luck with your move!
It sounds like you'll be loving the independence and privacy. Hope you don't get any neighbours who boom their awful choice of music through paper-thin apartment walls.

If you could have a dollar for everytime someone told you that but didn't follow through with the call, how rich do you reckon you would be? lol.
Feel free to PM me anytime if you wish to talk, even if its just to randomly say hello

Welcome back, raven! o.o Haven't seen you in forever.

Yes! I understand that they probably have tons of applicants and can't possibly have time in their workday to contact all of them, but it's really discouraging to get no feedback at all.
Good luck with your move!

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to this summer. I had to stay with my parents all last summer and couldn't find a job anywhere. But this year, most of my friends are going to be around, so even if I'm not working much, I won't be completely bored. The loud neighbors thing does worry me a bit, but there's a rule against loud partying and general obnoxiousness in the lease, so they won't be blasting music for long.... ![]()
Was supposed to have a second interview for the app place today, btw. I waited forever and they never showed up. Finally got an email back explaining that he was in a meeting, and that he texted me and never got an answer. Apparently he scheduled a meeting last minute over our meeting time and let me know by text when I was in class. -__-

Oh no! I hope that won't count as anything negative on your behalf.

Re: Job searching
Don't think it will, he seems ridiculously casual. He added me on facebook before I was even officially hired. I don't even know if I'm hired yet or not, actually. It's very strange.
I had a bit of a hard time getting back to my dorm, though, as he was supposed to drive me back after the interview. I didn't think I'd need my phone, so I didn't bring it. So I had to borrow a random person in the coffee shop's computer to contact someone.
Just checked my email; it's rescheduled for 3:00 tomorrow now. I'll be watching my phone for texts this time. XD

Re: Job searching
He added me on facebook ...
He most likely did that to check out what kind of life you have ... or whatever
they do that for. I was told that businesses do that for reasons I don't recall.
I'm sure you're clean as soap, though. Not like you run around spitting curse
words at people and posting awkward videos and pictures. I don't even have
a Facebook, heheh.

Re: Job searching
to see what your actual personality is like, since you're apparently expected to act specific ways during the interview.
when i say it that way though, it seems sort of like walking around a mountain with a tunnel going through it.
