Rate your interest in Spyro

I'm asking this in General Chat instead of one of the Spyro sections because I'm trying to get an idea of why those sections are dead. Most people who don't post in those sections do post here. I've got some idea as to why, but I'd like to know if everyone else thinks the same.

After you vote, do you have any ideas you'd like to suggest on how we could make the Spyro sections of Spyroforum more interesting? They're what bring new people to this site, and the fact that they're dead is probably the reason a lot of people don't stick around long after joining.

Re: Rate your interest in Spyro

As for how to make them more interesting, what if we did spyro themed games in them from time to time? Make the game go along with whichever game's forum you're in

Re: Rate your interest in Spyro

I put myself under as a 6.

The reasoning is that I just don't have as much of an interest in the games as I use to. TLoS series wasn't a traditional Spyro game, but it at least had a majority of the same platforming mechanics. Skylanders doesn't seem to feel like that at all, which is the primary reason I haven't given any thought to purchase it.

Another reason is that I'm older. It's not that Spyro can only be enjoyed by kids, but I've started to do things that take away a lot of my free time, and playing Spyro is not on my priority list at the moment. In fact, over the past month I've only played a couple of hours of video games. I guess I'm just not really managing my time very well.

Re: Rate your interest in Spyro

I gave It a 2. The reason I did was because Spyro jus kept getting worse for me after the PS1 games. He was stabbed with Enter the Dragonfly, Shot by A Heroes Tale, Outright dies in the LoS series and Skylanders was just taking a dump on his coffin.

I still enjoy the PS1 series. Actually thinking of downloading them off PSN. Hence why It's not a 1.

Re: Rate your interest in Spyro

10.

as to the Spyro forums (SpyroForum Spyro Forum Forums ForausdSPgagpyaoro), i would love to post more in them, but i don't have a lot to say about them. i post whenever somebody brings something up, but... hmm bring back older topics? i don't know. a lot of us who post here have played these games a lot, and some of us (myself) have gone beyond playing the games, and spend a lot of our Spyro-playing time finding glitches, GameShark codes to cause glitches, etc, to get to hidden places and go deeper. it would help if we had more inexperienced people to start up discussions about the gameplay, and more extremely experienced people to start more threads about hacks and hidden finds.

opinion threads are always interesting, too. but there's only so much you can do with those, too. it's a little desperate-sounding when we talk about which gem color is our favorite.

Re: Rate your interest in Spyro

8!

The Spyro Forums are my favourite forums, and about 10 years ago, I was absolutely obsessed with Spyro. But, obsessions come and go, although I'm sure it's my OCD that's caused each one to stick in some way. Since I stopped being obsessed with Spyro, I've been obsessed with Pokémon, Tamagotchi and Minecraft, and before Spyro I was obsessed with Sonic. Each of my obsessions are still sone of my favourite things, despite not really being as obsessed as I was before.

Minecraft is an exception. I've been playing for over a year and it's still my favourite thing.

Ponies are 10, and Jazz Jackrabbit just passed Spyro with an 8 because of General Mumble.
If I hear Brony musicians make Spyro remixes, he'll be back at 9.

Yo, Spyro

Spyro remixes? Of course! I'm off to Audacityland!

why do they need to be brony (not capitalized) musicians, Jazz?

Re: Rate your interest in Spyro

Thanks for all the responses, guys. Keep them coming. smile

Here are some ideas I've gotten from this thread so far; what do you think?
- Organized (or somewhat organized) debate threads
- Contests like speedruns, skateboard score contests, speedway contests, etc (LoS and Skylanders fans could maybe help me out a bit for fun things related to those games we could do)
- Something to bring some creativity into the fandom. I don't exactly know what this would be, but since there isn't a lot being added from the actual games, some new fan content could keep things more fresh.
- Starting some new RPs (does anyone like roleplaying here?)

Re: Rate your interest in Spyro

Just jumping in here. Well, I gave it a 9, because although the first 3 games were the best, I'm fine with a lot of the other games as well, but if I had a choice, I would play the original Spyro the Dragon. LoS was okay, I guess it had an interesting storyline and that, but it didn't capture the original awesomeness of Spyro. Skylanders, well... I don't consider it a Spyro game, it's a game featuring Spyro, and for that, it's an alright game. (Though buying the toys was a little... bleh.)

-I'm not very good at debate, so I'm not sure about that point, but eh, I guess it'll be nice to see some more activity around here- I mean, I know I just joined yesterday but since then nothing much seems to have happened.
-Although I'm terrible at those minigames, no matter how much I have played the game, I would love to see some friendly competition, eh, I'll even try to compete a bit too.
-A bit more creativity is always good to have, it'd be nice to see a little more fresh content here and there.
-As an answer to your question, I adore roleplaying, and if there was an Original Spyro series roleplay for me to join with Rivus and Derby, then man, I'de be one happy dragon.

Re: Rate your interest in Spyro

Anyone is welcome to start an RP.

It's like a cycle: no one starts them because the place is dead, but the place is dead because no one starts anything new. So someone's got to break that cycle for it to become active again.

I know there was an active RP for a while between two members, but I think one of them went on hiatus so it died off.

I dunno.  Being a brony gets you known.  General Mumble made two great albums before being a Brony, but he was virtually unknown until he made pony songs.  If a brony musician were to make Spyro remixes, the songs would be much easier to find.

Ah, I get the point. To be honest, I was nervous to start my own because the place is dead, as well as my inexperience. I don't see why I would be the only one in that situation.
I'd have to come up with a story or something first, though.

I really like the speedruns idea. Maybe there could be a SF YouTube channel, and once a week maybe, a speedrun of two members playing head to head is uploaded?

Ooh, that sounds fun. It might be hard to get everyone to do their speedruns on time though, but I do like that idea

Yeah, the youtube channel is a really good idea.

Would it be something kind of like this (Skip to 0:25)? [Probably some adult language if you watch long enough]

It could be like that, or otherwise each contestant would upload their own video individually

These are all great ideas, I must say. But like, if you need youTube to enter, I think I'll pass. It'd be cool to watch others, though!

You probably wouldn't need one to participate. You could just send your video to whoever's running the account.

I like the idea of the contests. How would it be organized and would there be any prices( getting gems or some other stuff which could be added to SF )?

We could either do that or each person uploads their own video seperately. I think that it would be a bit more entertaining if it was like the speed run above, if both people are playing head to head and speaking over Skype or something.

Re: Rate your interest in Spyro

Another idea would be to reorganize the forum altogether.

We have dozens of sections, and most of them are sort of redundant. For example, we have a section devoted to every single Spyro game. Then we have one devoted to Spyro tips/hints, general Spyro chat, the future of Spyro, etc.

My suggestion would be to combine them into one section and have them divided into their own sub-sections (like most other forums seem to do).

Another thing is that the Special Groups sections shouldn't be limited so much. Take away the need to be administered there by a mod, it isn't like people should need to ask permission for something they can get simply by asking for it.

Re: Rate your interest in Spyro

7, because there are simply more things worth my time, (ie. Dragon Age, Fullmetal Alchemist, etc.), but I honestly can never forget that tiny purple dragon. I have more fond memories of Spyro, than Pokemon.

Brb, I'm going to go buy the original PS1 games.

But oh my god, Subforums would make it look so much nicer.
