Re: General Discussion 5
I'd like to say something that I originally wanted to put in the "What
computer do you have?" topic before it got locked.
This is what I said before I learned a ton of stuff from college:
"An old one from when I was in *bleeping* 5th grade. It was the family
PC, and is now mine.
Gay desktop thing that is weak and can't stand up to any viruses.
[Swaffy needs Kaspersky.]
It's a HP."
Not let me tell you my specs for my [fairly new] laptop:
Model: Dell Inspiron 1764
Processor: Intel CORE i3 (2.13 GHz, 2 cores with hyperthreading)
RAM: 4 GB (3.8 GB available, see below)
System: 64 bit with 32 bit Win7 OS (UBER_SADFACE.png)
GPU: Intel Graphics Accelerator HD (1.66 GB RAM, 60 MHz)
[How to find what graphics card you have]
My computer seems to struggle a bit when playing games. Is it because my
graphics card is running at 60 MHz? I know it has enough RAM (1696 MB).
Plenty. I also want a 64-bit Windows 7 OS instead of this 32-bit version.

I think I could cry right now...Its just im on skype with a friend and she's me best friend but....she's been akward with me recently, no matter how much I ask "how are you" she keeps saying "fine" then she sits there silently, and sadly, its realy depressing me.
That and her cold attitude is irritating me.
Anyway sorry rant over guys.

Sorry to hear that. Has she gone through some kinda big change to her life(She moved, Relative died etc) that caused her to feel this way?

Re: General Discussion 5
Sounds like you've done all you can do as a good friend. Just let her know (if you haven't already) that if she ever changes her mind and wants to talk, you'll be there. It might be just regular emotional stuff that all teenagers have to suffer through that'll go away with time.

^ What Stormy said.
Just let her know that you're there for her if she ever needs anything. Even if
you don't know what that is, she will at least know that she has someone by
her side to help her along. Sometimes, friends are more trustworthy than family.

The reason why your computer won't run games well is because the graphics card is an integrated chip. Almost all laptops (other than the high end $2,000 ones and a few exceptions) use an integrated graphics chip. It is merely just a part of your CPU that can run floating point operations better than the rest of it (required for good graphics). Most CPUs come with them, and are useful in case your dedicated card breaks or you don't want to spend another few hundred few a more powerful one. They also don't add as much heat as a dedicated card would, which is a must for a laptop with such limited cooling space. Unfortunately, they run hundreds of times slower than dedicated cards, and many hardware accelerated features are not available (shading is a common thing).
If you have a PSU and a dedicated graphics card, you could probably set it up into an external graphics card that you could plug into your laptop.

Don't press too hard, but make sure she knows that you're there. No need to remind her all the time, but try to provide subtle comfort.

Re: General Discussion 5
So anyway, break this week! I'm still going to have to go over to a friend's place to work with him and the rest of the robotics team in our school on our robot. Fun project, though, and it's a few blocks away from me, so I don't mind.

Re: General Discussion 5
You guys are lucky you have earlier breaks.
I've got a couple programs to write in C (I hate C, btw) that are due next week. If this week was a break I'd have so much more time to do it. Although I guess if break were this week we would've just had the programs assigned a week earlier. Bleh. I hate you, C.
Oh, also, I got a call back from the place I interviewed at last week. They want me to come in for a second interview on Wednesday. ![]()

Re: General Discussion 5
I hated C until I started messing around with macros and enums.
Became one of my favorites soon after. Not useful for making quick little things, but very nice for larger scale things.

I wouldn't mind it so much, but... just... is it so much to ask that they name their methods something easily readable to human beings? strstr? fprintf? fgets? How the heck am I supposed to guess what that means without looking it up? And those are just basics. Blarghalkgskdsffs.

Re: General Discussion 5
Okay. So I've decided I'm going to take today to do art. I will (I plan on) not
turn my Xbox on at all today and will focus it all on art. Of course, I'm
probably going to go through many playlists of music. Of course. It's what
keeps my mind functioning if I don't have anyone to talk to.
Art day. Sounds good. Now why am I lingering around on the Internet? ![]()

Re: General Discussion 5
Hey Neotyguy, if you've got time/if you want to, would you mind taking a quick look at some of my code (still C)? I've literally (and I do literally mean literally) been working on it for six hours straight and I'm still getting the exact same result. Google is no help because everything I search for gives me results for C# and C++.
Someone tell me why I'm a computer science major again? ![]()

No. It just becomes much rarer. This doesn't include PAL regions though. Only NA/Canada.

I like C, because it can do much more things than Java and C also provides more freedom. At school, we learn only Java and I always complain about something that Java is missing. The function names can seem a little bit strange, because they contain shortcuts (maybe for faster writing of code), but you will get used to them. I think that for example fgets means file-get-string. Don't worry, libraries for high level programming in C (for example gfx) are easier to read. The only thing I don't like is taking care about memory leaks...
Sometimes playing Spyro games is useful for programming. For example I saved about 50 lines of complicated code, because I thought how did the developers made it in Spyro games and I made it similar way and it worked much better. ![]()
