Re: General Discussion 5
I really think it's just as simple as, like Swaffy said, the company wanting to follow their own religious guidelines and nothing more, but that could be my own religious background talking. But I don't think you're being cynical, Aceedwin.

Oh i never knew that. I never read the Bible.
Not many have.
funny thing I just realised though.
I have an athiset friend who says all them nutter christians are stupid and ignorent ((and IMo i do agree with her to that exstent)) yet she gose around saying ANY religon is stupid and they should all be atheistr so my conclution that makes her just as ignorent as the crazy extremist
I kinda agree with her on the first part about obbsevive people in religions. Me for instance i firmly believe in God. Though i don't go to church, Pray to him for anything, Or anything that goes to religion(Though we don't eat meat on Good Friday) I like to think that maybe if i don't bother God with anything. He won't bother me for anything either.

If you're christian, you really should. Even I've read it.

Don't worry, it's perfectly fine to say she is just as ignorant for belittling other's beliefs. It's wrong to attack someone's religion for no reason.
There are many things that annoy the heck out of me when it comes to religion, but I don't get bothered by people who keep it to themselves and out of my life.

Re: General Discussion 5
Well, that was one of the longest downtimes we've had yet. =/
So, does anyone here know anything about Ubuntu? I just installed it on an old computer and it works great except for one thing: when I start up my computer it starts beeping repeatedly and extremely loudly until the login screen comes up, which is extremely annoying especially since it's a pretty slow computer. Other than that I like it so far, and it's interesting to try out an OS other than some version of Windows like I've always used.

I contacted our admin [SR] about the downtime.
He is going to put SpyroForum on a new server soon.

Oh, well that's good to hear.
Only problem is... when is "soon"? Lots of things on this site have never been done that were supposed to have been done "soon."

Soon = never.
At least, from my experience

Harsh, blunt, and even evil on many occasions. What's not to like about me?

According to video game developers, the word "soon" is short for "when we
feel like it." I'm not sure if SR is a game developer or not, but I'll be patient
and see what happens.

Ubuntu is one of my favorite distros! The problem you're using seems to be a sound card driver. Generally, you need to manually install those sort of things. You can find instructions online for getting them.

I watched a video about Ubuntu. To me, it looks like a much cooler version
of what the MAC computers have. I really don't like how the "Exit,"
"Minimize," and the other button is on the left side instead of the right.

Could a driver really be the problem before the OS even starts, though? There's nothing wrong with my sound at all after it boots.
And I'm with you, Swaffy; I haven't quite gotten used to that yet.

Ohh, I read that as "Starts beeping when I get past the login window."
Those are normal system beeps that tend to occur on certain hardware sets. There are two ways to disable it other than ripping out the system-beep speakers (useless thing anyway, since they only beep as indicators). One is to edit the black list and tell your computer to ignore the beepers. Open up your command prompt (should be alt-f2) and type one of the following 3 commands:
If you have GNOME installed:
gnomesu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
If you have KDE installed:
kdesu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
If you have neither:
gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf*If I screwed up and none of these commands do anything, then you are free to hit me. Open up a text editor and do your best to find that stupid file.*
Then add this to your file at the end:
#Disable integrated speaker
blacklist pcspkrAfter you save, the next time you start it up, it shouldn't beep (unless it turns out to be something actually related to the sound card, not the internal speaker). This does not affect your normal speakers at all, and generally the integrated speaker is just for troubleshooting problems at startup or shutdown.

How much programming have you learned, NTG? You seem to have taken
some kind of school course for it, or taken lessons from someone else.

Re: General Discussion 5
Well, I'm sad now. I was "let go" from my job last Monday. Party City was
firing people because Halloween is now over and they had too many
employees. What makes me frustrated is that I was [1] one of their better
employees, and [2] not a seasonal employee.
