I'm thinking about taking on drumming lessons.
My drumming style will be blues/alternative rock.

Re: General Discussion 5

A single week won't take you anywhere. It takes dedication. I took guitar
lessons for a full year before stopping to pay for car insurance. My parents
were paying for all of that at the time, so they told me that they needed me to
stop lessons to pay for insurance. Anyway, since I have a job now and am
paying for my own car insurance, my parents are willing to pay for drum
lessons.

Our church youth group is short on drummers. Our main drummer sometimes
works on Wednesdays [at Chik-Fil-A] during the time youth group takes place.

Re: General Discussion 5

Are you still planning on going to college, Swaffy?

My parents paid for piano lessons for me when I was around 8 or 9. All we had was a little keyboard. They stopped paying for it because I would never practice and there was only so much you could learn without a real piano. Same thing happened with the clarinet... and the guitar... only I had real instruments for both of those and was just too lazy to practice. I still have the guitar and I kind of wish I knew how to play more than a couple chords.

So? Churchs don't last all day y'know. Only in the mornings. If anything they should just open at 11:00 AM or something.

Re: General Discussion 5

One of the Ten Commandments can be interpretted to mean that you shouldn't work on Sundays:  "Keep the sabbath day holy." I used to follow that but with recent jobs I've had no other choice unless I wanted to be stuck with no hours.

As Stormy noted previously, it is related to the fact that Sunday is the
Sabbath Day to Christians. It is a day of rest and worship towards God. It
makes sense to have church on the Sabbath Day, since worship is involved.

Chik-Fil-A is very brave with their faith in God since Sunday can be a big
money-maker if they open on that day. Instead, they put God first and, and
money last. What's even more interesting is that the company gets a large
amount of profit even without being open Sundays.

Re: General Discussion 5

I imagine they can cut back on employee holidays because they don't work on Sundays, so it's not a complete negative, but it is a pretty bad company decision. But wait, the very idea that the company is matyring itself will no doubt prove very attractive to Christians, and to pretty much anyone who sees the decision as a brave action. So it sacrifices a day of business for more concentrated and effective labour, and a better image.

Am I being too cynical here? I don't think so. The negatives still outweigh the positives, but still, it's not an utter sacrifice of resources.
