The Animated Movies topic

I thought seen as me and my spam friend furry fan, seem to trail of about animated films, i thought it might be nice to make a topic on animation so everyone can join in big_smile ((And we might stop derailing topics as much))

So let us begin with the wonders of...animated films that were a "disappointment" and see where we go from there.

for me there’s one film that pie’s me off about its "failure" and that film is Disney's the Black cauldron, it’s a really good film but unfortunately it never earned Disney enough cash and you know what Disney’s like hmm "If it fails in their eyes they brush it under the carpet." But the film itself is really good and strong, it’s just unfortunate that it was too dark and scared the younger viewers.

Re: The Animated Movies topic

Voted for Disney; I adored their movies like Lion King and Aristocats when I was a kid and still do now. Most of their newer stuff maintains a pretty high level of quality, too, especially Pixar.

I've heard good things about Don Bluth from this site and TGWTG, and apparently he created The Land Before Time, which I also adored as a kid.

I'll have to look up The Black Cauldron, sounds interesting.

Re: The Animated Movies topic

It really *bleep*s me off that out of all the Don Bluth movies he's ever made. The best one is also the one that didn't make a whole lot of money.

The-Secret-of-NIMH.jpg

Yea this movie which is no secret to anyone that i absolutely adore. It's story was dark and cool. The characters were well developed and the animation is just gorgeous to look at. I regard it to me at least to be the best animated movie ever made.

And yet the movie had a budget of only $7,000,000 dollars it's box office gross? around $14,000,000. Yea i know it doubled but this still isn't exactly a lot. Every time i see a terrible movie like Transformers can get a billion dollars. And yet good movies such as this only get a small amount of money back i get really irritated.

Still at least it's got a modest cult following one that for once. I'm actually glad to be a part of.

Ok i just know that I'm gunna be the only one here to actually vote for Don Bluth.

Re: The Animated Movies topic

I saw Secret of NIMH 2 a long time ago and remember liking it, but apparently it was actually a terrible movie and everyone who liked the first one hates it. XD The only part I really remember was one of the songs at the beginning and the weird plot twist where the main character's brother turns out to be evil.

Wasn't the original Secret of NIHM based on a book? I vaguely remember listening to a book on tape on a road trip called Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.

Secret of N.I.M.H 2 sucks it's almost as bad as Highlander 2...almost.

And yes the movie is based off that book. And to be fair the book actually explains things about the serum better than the movie did. But i liked the movie better though because in that one.

Hidden text

Justin lives in the book he dies

Also fun fact Don Bluth has NOTHING to do with sequels to his own movies. MGM majorly *bleep*ed up and made terrible sequels to those great movies. The only sequel he ever did was Bartok the Magnificent. Which was a prequel(I think) to Anastasia. And it was actually pretty decent

That was also a great movie that he made and didn't do well in the box office(It bombed so hard his studio went bankrupt which is why he doesn't make movies anymore.)

OMG that is so true. I'm really nostalgic about it. I even saw Winne the Pooh the other day and it was great.

Re: The Animated Movies topic

Normally I would have voted for Disney but since How to Train Your Dragon is my favorite movie I just have to pick Dreamworks. Also Disney sorta betrayed me by changing the voices for Totoro for no reason. And it's not just because I grew up with the original cast, but because I honestly can't get used to the new voices because of how terrible a lot of them sound. Some people like the dad sounded fine though.

Re: The Animated Movies topic

I think disney are off track now ((witch is why im despret for don to return)) i mean the snow queen was there next 2d film...not anymore realy its been scrapped affter the princess and the frog "faild" in there eyes >_> so there plan of "a new 2D film every year" was just a load of cogewolds!

but when disney are on track they are fantastic:

Snow white
Lion king
The hunchback of notredamme
Dumbo

just to name a few tongue

Re: The Animated Movies topic

Definitely Disney.

Not only are the base Disney movies amazing, but Disney also owns Pixar and Studio Ghibli, which are equally amazing. Dreamworks is hit or miss. I loved Shrek (1 and 2) and How to Train Your Dragon, but other Dreamworks movies have been terrible. Like Stormy, I'm not very familiar with Don Bluth (also other than Land Before Time, one of my childhood favorites).

IMO Don Bluths good movies are so good. It plunges those terrible movies into the void(I.E i just forget about them) My personal favorite Disney movie is Fantasia.

Hunchback is probably my second favorite. I still love Fantasia for it's music and animation. If you're wondering what i think about the sequel,Fantasia 2000 i thought it was Ok it had some good moments like the firebird and the green lady(I forget her name) But most of the skits were really silly and didn't really belong so to speak(The flamingos). I love the first one though Night on Bald Mountain was just awesome.

Re: The Animated Movies topic

That's a tough voting poll because I like all the one's listed. Disney has Lion King, Aristocats, Beauty and The Beast, etc. Don Bluth has Land Before Time, An American Tail, Secret of Nimh. DreamWorks has How To Train Your Dragon, Shrek, and Kung Fu Panda. Sony Animation with Open Season, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, and The Smurfs. So for me I like all of the listed choices, but I agree each studio has done their fair share of bad animated movies.

Re: The Animated Movies topic

I picked Disney because they made most of the movies I'm familiar with from my childhood. (Lion King, 101 Dalmations, Aristocats, A Bug's Life, etc etc etc) I also like some of their recent movies too. I won't pretend to know much about animated movies though. I never knew (or bothered to think about) that Pixar is affiliated with Disney. And to be honest, I never really pay attention to the creators of the movies. I had to look on Wikipedia to see if the ones I listed were indeed made by Disney. XD

My mom sold a lot of our old animated movies, mostly because they were
Tapes instead of DVDs. I was talking to her about them in December of last
year, and she told me that she regrets selling them. She sold Balto, but I
recently torrented it so that I can watch it on my Dell laptop. That movie brings
back so many memories. I thank God that we still have the Spirit DVD.

Speaking of that, I remember when Dinosaur first came out to theaters. I was
fairly young, and I got so scared of that movie, I asked my parents if we can
leave. We all left, including my sister. I think she was scared too. She's
exactly 1.5 years older than me [to the day], so it makes sense that she was
also scared of the movie. But regarding Prince of Egypt, I don't remember
what that movie is like. I'd have to watch a YouTube video about it.

*Watches YouTube video*

Oh, whoa! I remember that movie! It's awesome.
