But seriously, there were not even any haters until the fanbase actually created the hate group themselves by continually calling them out.

Do you really think there would be people trolling MLP if the fanbase didn't make it seem like a sensitive issue? It was never controversial until they actually made it seem controversial themselves. People only troll to get a response out of them. If the fanbase didn't create so much anti-hate, there wouldn't be any hate to begin with.

It is like picking a fight with a group that doesn't exist. But once the fight starts, the trolls join the other side just to put an opposition out there. Trolls tend to join the side that has the less amount of people. Because there were more anti-hate than actual hate, the trolls took advantage of that to create more hate.

You may not agree with me, but that's what it looks like right now. The only other reason someone would go out of their way to create hate was either they truly hated the show THAT MUCH (Twilight Hate Effect), or they just got annoyed that people were posting it everywhere (Furry Hate Effect).

I like to call this the MLP Hate Effect.

@Neotyguy40: I've seen many instances of unprovoked hate towards MLP fans for reasons similar to the ones that caused this forum to get raided by anonymous a few years back: "the fandom is gay and the fans are a bunch of *bleep*s."

Some of the hatedom is definitely brought by the fans having a persecution complex, but not all of it, probably not even most of it. I'd actually say most of the hatedom is brought on by a combination of the fans being too overzealous about their love for the show and the antis making fun of them in response because they're getting sick of seeing it everywhere and think it's "gay."

I agree with Neo somewhat. But somewhere along the lines, a "Stop liking what I don't like" mentality comes into the picture. People are respnsible for their own arguments and it takes two to argue. Also, its a shame that there are fans of the series that are bashed simply because anti-fans were mad at fanboys that annoyed them in the past. People on the internet have a bad habit of not letting by-gones be by-gones.

I don't follow the world. I look at something and make my own decision
based on my personal experience and opinions. That's most of why I'm not
a "hater" towards things such as MLP. Before you guys began chatting about
it, I actually never thought anything of it. It was just ... there. Now I like it,
but not enough to call myself a fan. I'm not riding any kind of bandwagon,
it's just that I have seen it and developed my own personal mindset towards it.

I guess that gives you an idea that there are still people who ... don't follow the crowd.
