Fire Modes: Your Preference?
Being nearly obsessed with real-life guns, I decided to create this poll.
What is your preferred fire mode for weapons [mainly assault rifles and
battle rifles]? Please tell why you like what you chose, why you prefer it.
You may make your judgement off of video games if you like [yes,
including CallaDooty, even though it sucks].
You can see what I voted for in the poll stats area.
Vote changing/removing is allowed.

Re: Fire Modes: Your Preference?
I have never fired a gun, so i don't know from personal experience. But from first person shooters, my understanding is that there is really no reason to shoot more than a few bullets for a kill.

Re: Fire Modes: Your Preference?
In a game give me a sniper rifle, in the real world I'll take my semi-auto.

Re: Fire Modes: Your Preference?
In real life: Bolt action sniper rifles.
In games: Semi-auto marksman rifles.

Re: Fire Modes: Your Preference?
I wonder why there are so many gun fanatics on this site. Other than being an area of interest not everyone shares, it's ironic that we make forum rules to stress a family-oriented atmosphere - and then you see numerous posts and threads on guns. Despite the fact that it's a hobby for people here and not with malicious intent, I always get a little disturbed at how liberal you guys talk about guns, and try to maintain a supposed family-friendly site at the same time.
I sort of have to pick a bone on you guys for implying that guns (and their usage/firepower) are more acceptable to talk about than politics (or even religion on a peaceful assumption). True, one might argue that the latter two topics I've listed are prone to "heated debate", but gun topics have a negative influence in a different way, namely influencing younger children (no age limit on site). Even if that's not the case now, it just goes against site principles that people so strongly defend on this site.

Not true, everyone breaks the rules. Mostly between Clock-la and her Yaoish/swearing stuff, Swaffy and his religious preaching, the new guy and his constant improper english, and me for sarcastically trolling everyone at the same time.
For example ^
And besides, 2 syllables with a single vowel.

If we were breaking any rules the mods will tell us and we will stop.

Well, I'm more or less referring to topics of discussion. I'm admittedly biased in the fact that guns do not interest me but I find politics more interesting to discuss - yet that's a no-man's land (see previous post for more details). That's sort of my hunch.
If we were breaking any rules the mods will tell us and we will stop.
Yeah, but you know that even mods need a wake up call every so often? There's such thing as a preferential lean that might allow a bypass/bending of rules, especially if said mod supports the topic. At the very least I'd like some sort of explanation to this apparent irony. Neotyguy's post didn't really address this, but rather discussed other unrelated rules.
@any mod: please PM me if you have an explanation, or -gasp- perhaps even make amendments to the rules if explanation does not suffice!
don't want to derail, but want to let people aware
moving along now...

Re: Fire Modes: Your Preference?
It's quite simple, it isn't against the forum rules to discuss that but it is when it comes to politics since that's how our admin likes it. All we can do is enforce the rule. I believe it mostly stemmed from more fights brewing out over that then about firearms, but that's just the rule.
If you have problems with it then PM SR and ask him to change things, or I can tell him for you myself.

Re: Fire Modes: Your Preference?
In the really few FPS that i play i prefer the automatic.
Pretty much that for me as well, although I do use snipers from a distance for spammers.

Re: Fire Modes: Your Preference?
[disregardsRulesDebate]
This is my input on the [on-subject] subject:
- For the real world, my target would usually be at a distance [no matter
what type of target it is]. I would also be using the gun I love so much, the
M14 or M1A rifle. I am a fan of bolt-action and semi-automatic. If I was in
a military reated small arms fight, a three shot burst fire mode would be a
bit too much for me to feel comfortable with. And sometimes, depending
on the distance from my gun to the intended target, semi-automatic would
be a bit too slow. So I would go with a two-shot burst weapon. I also don't
like shotguns at all, but that's a different discussion.
- For video games, I still like realism. I just got finished playing a game
called Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. The game is very realistic,
down to the size of the battlefield and the amount of damage a soldier
takes on different parts of his body. While playing that game, I found
myself using semi-automatic fire mode the entire time. I don't like Halo
much anymore, as Halo: Reach pretty much made me lose interest in the
series.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has a gun called the AN-94, which fires a two-
shot burst. Though it is an abnormal fire mode for a weapon, it is very ...
versatile when it comes to small arms combat. It puts out just enough
bullets per burst for close range combat, and enough accuracy for longer
range combat.

Yes, I am a person who generally makes very long posts.

Re: Fire Modes: Your Preference?
I prefer fully-automatic if there is unlimited ammo. However, without rapidfire powerups, semi-automatic can be a lot faster.
Yo, Spyro
I'm really happy for you, but Jazz Jackrabbit is one of the best platformers of all time.

I would like to fire guns, mainly handguns, SMGs, LMGs, Long range rifles and assault rifles. Shotguns would dislocate my shoulders.

Re: Fire Modes: Your Preference?
I've fired shotguns, just the 410 and the 12-guage.
My friend has owned shotguns [including a bolt-action shotgun], rifles,
and even a CAR-15. He told me that rifles have larger kick-back over
shotguns for the 5.56 and 7.62 caliber rifles. Rifles put more hurt into your
shoulder. I'm not sure about 8-guage and 10-guage shotguns, though.
Those are usually for military use only since they're so powerful.

Re: Fire Modes: Your Preference?
Same as the Daewoo USAS-12. Both shotguns can weild a 20-round drum
magazine and have full-auto fire. The upside of an AA-12 is that it can fire
12-guage explosive rounds [FRAG-12].

His arms must feel like rubber after that.
