Everytime a large image is posted, it's resized so the width fits inside the default browser window. Is that not how it's working for you guys?
That can sometimes lag extremely as a result of the users CPU power and such, on my older computer it would take like a minute before an image would be resized and by that point my computer would be so laggy it's not even funny.

It was a pretty crap year. But Deadly Premonition came out in 2010 and that is very, VERY good. The rest sucked though.
