It's not ignorance. If I notice certain books make readers act a certain way, I can predict what the book is like (as in the lessons taught, not necessarily the story.)
For example, from my experience, Harry Potter fans seem to know how to cope with problems, while Twilight fans are overly defensive and emotionally unstable.
And not to get into religious matters, but parts of a certain religion persecutes people of other religions just because their book tells them to.
Maybe there just aren't any rational people in Sfhdgfjhjdyjdfh, wherever that is.

Nice generalization there, btw. It doesn't seem like you put much thought into it. If your 'experience' involved emotionally unstable Harry Potter fans and calm Twilight fans, your 'prediction' would be wrong. So no, you can't predict what a book is like based on fans.
I can't assume Of Mice and Men teaches that homosexuality is good just because some raging GeorgexLennie fangirl wrote about the (disgusting if its carnal) pairing on fanfiction.net.

If your "generalization" comment was about my HP vs T comment, it's true that most fans I know are like that, unless they like both, in which cases, the Harry Potter fanship overrides the Twilight fanship. My IRL observations have also been reproduced on the internet.
If your "generalization" comment was about the religious envelope I was poking at, I made sure I didn't point out any specific religion, and I made sure I specified "part", in case anyone figured out which religion I was referring to.
"Of Mice and Men" I cannot judge, as I have not read the book(s), seen the movie(s), or met the fan(s). Nor do I go on fanfic sites, as I prefer full canon, and I do not like rule 34.
I have just quoted a quote which was quoted, which was then quoted, and then that was quoted, which caused that to be qutoed. This message has been quoted.
I'm not going to comment on Twilight because I've never read it or watched a movie. I likely never will, becuase it's more of a chick flic from what I've heard. There are two things that have no rules, and I prefer to have more of war than of love in my reading.
Anyways, I'm now 10,700 words in, and I'm almost done with the exposition. Time for the action to begin.
I think Harry Potter fans would like my novel, but the fact of the matter is that it probably would be compaired to it too often to make it's own identity for thsoe fans. It won't be the same plot by any means, but the fact that it takes place in a school of magic might make people start to compair it to HP if they are a fan.
