Dang You, Gamemakers!
I'm seriously irritated right now >> So, after receiving the news about the cancelled movie and sick of waiting for a new Spyro game, I started playing Sly Cooper, a franchise I was new to but my friend recommended after she sat through one of my "I want a new spyro game, dammit!" rants. Anyway, I played it and instantly fell in love, and by the end of summer I'd beaten all three games and was eager for another. Then I go online and learn that, although rumors had circulated, there is no news of Sly 4. What's worse, I checked the release dates of the other games and the third one came out in 2005! It bugs the heck outta me that all the gamemakers do this. I feel so sorry for the gamers who wanted another back in 2005/6. And what's more, if there can be a 5 year time gap for this franchise, how do we know that's not happening to Spyro? We may not even here rumors about another game until 2013. :'(

Re: Dang You, Gamemakers!
Well Infomus dose have little easter eggs of a sly game.
Eg his bag has slys face and the theater says "Now showing Sly 4"
Anyway I see nothing wrong with what they did.
They finished it on a good note. Everyone is happy, so theres no real point in making a 4th unless they got a pritty darn good reson to make sly go back to stealing again.

Well, Bentley did mention something of a time machine.

Yeah, there definentily is potential for a 4th, i know that. But it's the time they've kept us waiting is what bothers me. And debatebly, Dotd ended on a happy note, but we still all want a new game.

I don't. lol.
Anyway its not there fault for trying new things. IMO im glad it ended on a happy note ((Sly)) the 2nd game ending had life for a 3rd. but the 3rd ewnding ties to many nots that should not be untied without it been to cheezy...

Re: Dang You, Gamemakers!
0.0 Your a rare few, I'll tell you that. Then again, we're all entitled to our opinions.
There are a few directions they could go in, what with the whole time machine thing. I've read some fanfiction that wrote up what a 4th might look like, and i thought they were all pretty darn good. Another thing, it's irritating how they never specified that a series is over. I think I'd prefer if the company just said "We're done, now moving in a different direction" then scatter rumors and hints and say stuff like "maybe in the future".

Consider the roumors a blessing.
Anyway its better than with naugty dog who just say "We will be intrested in making a Jak for the ps3..." but they never actually do. atleast with sly there just little added easter eggs.

Re: Dang You, Gamemakers!
Agreed. Plus w/ the new sly cooper hd collection ps3 thing coming out (just learned about this like 5 minutes ago) the chances are higher. Might as well get the collection and replay while I wait, I sp'ose. And yeah, naughty dog is another example of irritating gamemakers.

PS3 is making amazing jumps this year. And a well-supported console delivers more and exciting news from developers.

Btw, I have to ask: does your username have any correlation with the Neyla/Clockwerk hybrid in Sly 2?

Re: Dang You, Gamemakers!
sorry, but you're gonna have to tell me what TGS is.
I think PS3 is getting a bad rap for their slow start. That was 4 years ago.
They are only trailing the 360 by about 4 million units in sales. Which still isn't fair considering the 360 has a a year of sales to help them.
And don't argue the Wii's sales which blow out the PS3 and 360. The Wii for many (not all) households is like that shinny new appliance no one ever uses.

Re: Dang You, Gamemakers!
Some companies like Sony know when enough is enough. They publish only a few of each game series, and then they stop to preserve the dignity and enjoyability of that title. This is why they stopped at 3 games for Spyro, 3 games for Sly, and 4 for Jak and Daxter (although they released a fifth last year, and it's horrible). Now while many may not agree with it, and some are very angry that these series have stopped (I sure am too), I hate to admit that it's probably the BEST thing that they could have done for their series, since one ideology is "You can't innovate off of perfection."
Take another game series for example; Call of Duty (here we go again). There has been 6 games released in this series, and a 7th one is under way. For the first 3 games it was perfect, there was great online play, VERY few glitches, and a community that STILL lives on today! But now look at the newer ones; 4, 5, and 6. Because of the production time that they were given (less then 2 years each), they put in features that go under the category of 'Make it different rather than making a difference'. CoD 4 may have been able to get away with the new unlockable systems, class systems, and modern gameplay, but 5 was a pretty big disappointment and 6 was, and still is a flop.

Re: Dang You, Gamemakers!
That's what's sad. And I've honestly thought about since starting this topic, that maybe if they tried making another after all this time it would ruin the series. As with the quote "Quality has an end; quantity is infinite" maybe it's best if they stop...but I still wish I wouldn't have to see the end of such great game series...:(

Nostalgia is one of the worst feelings in the world, since you can't do anything about it other than wait and hope for it to go away. But when I feel nostalgic, I just look at the new great games released that can replace the feeling easily.

Any suggestions on a newer franchise that can keep me from eating too much Spyro the Dragon brand ice cream?

Lol, definentely all three in the Sly series are great, highly recommended and similar to Spyro in gameplay, characters, etc. though you'll be drinking Sly Cooper brand bottled water by the end of it
I agree, I hate nostalgia...especially when you refuse to let yourself think there's something better out there. But honestly, if I could take back discovering the game I wouldn't...it was some of the best fun I've had since dotd. And maybe one day they'll do something else with the series...movie! XD Just kidding, that's highly unlikely, although a manga would be cool.

I have all playstations.
I bought Ty around the time of EtD. I didn't really have that much fun with it, the gameplay I describe as "clunky." It was bad enough that I stopped playing it after the 5th or so level and sold it to game crazy for $3.
I played Sly on a demo disc and enjoyed it. At that time though, I was pretty intoxicated with Spyro and wasn't willing to let myself think that anything would ever be as good. To this day, I still feel that way. But I'll give Sly a shot.
I did enjoy the Jak trilogy, however. And Ratchet was ok (the first one) but the game got old quickly.

Well there are many good series, both old and new that can replace almost any nostalgic feelings you have. One great series is Infamous, which replaced the Sly Cooper franchise. Half-life, Portal, and all the Valve games are PERFECT if you're looking to take a good 100+ hours from you're life. GMod itself literally took up 296 hours of my life. Grand Theft Auto is good too, and there are many classic games that took up days of my life. Mega man, Sonic, Mario, etc.
I have a friend who is a poor gamer. He plays CoD MW2 all the time and considers it a "Good game". But when I look through the games he owns, I only see the new, popular, sell-out type games like Guitar Hero. He has never heard of Duke Nukem, he has never heard of a single indie game. Never played Crysis, or Half-Life, or any game not on the Xbox or Wii.

If you plan to give Sly a shot, and don't mind a small wait, I recommend you get the coming "Sly Collection" (I believe the release date in sometime in October/November). It's the HD updated versions for the PS3 and is a good way to get all three games on one disc. I know exactly what you meant by that "nothing is better than Spyro feeling", Sly beat that for me, not sure if it will for you but it's worth a go I sp'ose. To be honest, I'm so game-picky I got bored with the Jak triology after the first two games. Not a fan of Infamous, Half-life, etc. (most likely cuz I'm a girl lol.) But besides Spyro and Sly, the only video games I really felt synced with were the Super Smash Bros, The Touhou Series (technically computer games, and a pain to download) Harvest Moon (non-action and got boring after a few weeks) and the Pokemon games, which I still remain loyal to (although I only like the Ds ones, tried some for gamecube and wasn't a fan).
