SpyroForum - As dormant?

I found out, just a minute ago, that Spyro Forum is in fact the most active
forum I see at this time. I am part of a Battlefield 1942 modding forum,
but even they aren't as active as this place. I'm not sure if Dark Spyro is
more active than SpyroForum, but at least we're both Spyro related
forums. So maybe we're not as dormant as you may have thought ...

Re: SpyroForum - As dormant?

This place is a barren desert compared to the SoA forums. I come here when I want peace and quiet.

Well, no matter how "deserted" this forum gets, it'll always be my home
forum. I love this place too much to just ignore it.

Re: SpyroForum - As dormant?

i want to flip whenever any of you say this place is inactive because that's the most inaccurate statement conceivable. look at all the posts this place gets every day, even if it's just in a small amount of sections. i know a forum that hasn't seen any post outside its equivalent of "SPAM" for probably a week, and another that hasn't seen a post in 2010.

and the only reason it's less active at all is because people are leaving because other people are leaving. if the chain is broken and people stick around for a little bit, the place will naturally come back due to new members coming around.

Re: SpyroForum - As dormant?

It really is a shame.

JazzJackrabbit Community Forums actually seems more active, and there hasn't been a Jazz game since 2004 or so.  Then again, it has custom content integrated in the game.  That is what Spyro needs.

Yo, Spyro
I'm really happy for you, but Jazz Jackrabbit is one of the best platformers of all time.

OF ALL TIME!

SEGA of America.

I'll give you three guesses as to why that particular forum is more active, and the first two don't count, and there's a clue sitting right next to this post.

That's why I get frustrated [more sad actually] when people say that the
forum is "dead" or "dying." Because I know that it's only hitting some low
times right now, and will be back running and jumping sometime soon.

If Spyro games were more easily moddable [like BF 1942 which is still
very popular - came out in 2002], then the forum will be more active.

Activity and traffic of a forum are relative terms depending on who you talk to and what kind of forums you visit. IMO, Spyro Forums are pretty inactive not only compared to other forums I've visited, but compared to the past activity of this very site. The site was more active for sure back when I started out here.

The reason for this site's inactivity isn't too hard to figure out: Spyro-related news has virtually stopped since game production for the series came to an end (end of LoS series). Arbitrary chit chat is the only thing that keeps the forums here going on. I initially joined this site out of temporary nostalgic moments with Spyro, but that quickly petered out and the only thing left I can provide is random chat. Right now, the topics on this site are mainly guns/war/PC games and pop artists, as a gross generalization.
Darkspyro forums are many times more active than that site, and I post more there, but once again, the core reason for my joining of that site has long disappeared. The site is now mainly known for idiocy and a socially-stunted administrator. At times it feels like I'm a chaperone. In the end, I only post to specific threads and exhume the rest of the excess baggage.

Re: SpyroForum - As dormant?

Except that you have a choice to move elsewhere to a different forum/site. Which is what the majority of people do. Sure you can love this site to pieces, but that's about it. IMO, I wouldn't invest my time too much in an inactive site, unless I wanted to recruit people to join the site or advertise this site. Seeing how Spyro in general is not such a hot commodity anymore, it's not likely going to work anyways.

One thing I've noticed in some active forums is that many rely on a source of creative output (for example, a game that can be freely modified and edited with free source coding). This site relies on Spyro. This not only means that the site halts when new games cease to exist, but also halts because Spyro games are more or less linear in gameplay. If there was a Spyro level edit mode, I'm sure that would be a source of activity for these forums.

Re: SpyroForum - As dormant?

There are some mature users on Darkspyro but the rest are insane.

This forum isn't as active as Darkspyro is nowdays.

I still check in daily just to see what new posts there are. Until someone
accepts my job application[s], I'll have nothing to do. I won't be starting
college until next semester.

Re: SpyroForum - As dormant?

Most forums do have a degree of friendliness that matches this site's forums. DS is not even something to compare...it's exceptionally bad.

Re: SpyroForum - As dormant?

Are Spyro Forums and Dark Spyro the only forums dedicated to Spyro?
I've seen a couple of fan-made Spyro forums that failed, but how about
any other solid forums?
