Re: Rules that you live by.

This isn't a rule that I live by, but it has some of the wisest words I've ever
heard through a song. This is the most inspiring secular song I've heard so
far in my life. Me and my best friend [in whom I've known since he was
born] have this song as our "theme song."

Simple Man

That is indeed an interesting rule to go by. Well, I hope he's changing your
life in a positive way.

Re: Rules that you live by.

Swaffy wrote:

Here are a few of the rules that I try my best to live by. These are taken from Matthew chapter 5 in my Bible.

[hr:be9de09527]
Teaching about Anger

[22] But I say, if you are angry with someone, you are subject to judgement! If
you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the
high council. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of
hell.

[25] Come to terms quickly with your enemy before it is too late and you are
dragged into court, handed over to an officer, and thrown in jail.

[26] I assure you that you won't be free again until you have paid the last penny.

Teaching about Adultery
[28] But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has
already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Teaching about Divorce
[31] "You have heard that the law of Moses says, 'A man can divorce his wife by
merely giving her a letter of divorce.'

[32] But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful,
causes her to commit udultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman
commits adultery.

Teaching about Vows
[34] But I say, don't make any vows! If you say, 'By heaven!' it is a sacred vow
because heaven is God's throne.

[35] And if you say, 'By the earth!' it is a sacred vow because the earth is His
footstool. And don't swear, 'By Jerusaslem!' for Jerusalem is the city of the
great King.

[36] Don't even swear, 'By my head!' for you can't turn one hair white or black.

[37] Just say a simple, 'Yes, I will,' or 'No, I won't.' Your word is enough. To
strengthen your promise with a vow shows that something is wrong.

Teaching about Revenge
[39] But I say, don't resist an evil person! If you are slapped on the right cheek,
turn the other, too.

[40] If you are ordered to court and your shirt is taken from you, give your
coat, too.

[41] If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles.

[42] Give to those who ask, and don't turn away from those who want to borrow.

Teaching about Love for Enemies
[44] But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!

[45] In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For
He gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the
just and on the unjust, too.

[46] If you love only those who love you, what good is that? Even corrupt tax
collectors do that much.

[47] If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone
else? Even pagans do that.

[hr:be9de09527]
There is more in chapter 6, but these are a few things I try to follow.

This, and keep an open mind. That's how I (try to) roll.

Heheh, I did that when I was young. Even in fron of people sometimes. But
I stopped eating them when my mom told me that there's worms inside
them. Then was the time I got grossed out and stopped eating them.

Re: Rules that you live by.

I tend to live by two guidlines everything else can be streched and in limbo.

1. No giving up, EVER!
2. Accept yourself for you are not one is terrible at everything...and even if you are...don't worry about and enjoy life anyway, life too short to spend moping all the time, if you had told me that when I was younger, I wouldn't have understood mainly because I hated myself and all that *bleep*.

That's a bit much...
Also, for some reason when I read the good book, I find it dosen't make sence. But that's just me. Just one thing, if you made one bad desicion in life wouldn't god throw in a pit of burning lake of sulphur for all of entirnety, so I seem to worry alot about that. Please don't take that to offence.

Namely?

Oh, and uh... don't worry 'bout that man (SpyroDarkdude01). You ask for forgiveness, you're... well, forgiven, simple as that. No ritual, no church schedules (you know, religion... aka man's way of trying to do things "better". Trying to fill in that hole that either can't be filled that way or just plain doesn't exist), no trying to outweigh your bad stuff with good stuff. Jesus already paid for everything, so why on earth would you try to do it yourself. After that, it's as if you never did anything wrong. That's what forgiveness is, man. You get grace.
People sometimes twist around the words in the Bible. Like some people say "I live by the Word of God" and say alcohol is bad... uh, hello? Jesus miraculously changed water into wine for a party... (yes, my Baptist friends, WINE, not grape juice!!!) That's just one example. People tend to twist things to their liking and confuse other people. That kinda peeves me, really. Just be warned, lots of people who say they're Christians who you can't stand because they judge you and make you think you're not as good as they are... that's not the way they're supposed to behave (and they may not even be Christians, though I can't know that, since that's purely based on speculation, but you can have your suspisions). On the contrary, we're just supposed to be an example, not bash people over the heads with what is most often mistakenly referred to as a "rule book". It's more than just a manuel or a standard (and yes, that is partly what it is, but getting to the other half...), it's a love letter. Just God's way of showing us he cares. I'm not trying to preach, that's just my way of thinking, and it actually feels good to speak what's on my mind to people other than people who already think almost the way I do (even if it isn't face to face). Heck, I may be wrong about some of the stuff I believe, but aren't we all? No one has it 100% correct, so quit looking for that person who "has all the answers". He/she doesn't exist.

I can only remember one. In one passage it said that God was a malevolent and punishing God, and in another passage in the same book it says the God is a loving and caring God.

*Sigh*

You know, I was kind of hoping for a discussion that didn't involve the Bible/Commandments/Koran/Anything that missionaries would preach to others.

I was sort of going as a joke kind of thing that would mimic Fight Club, Gibbs' 51 Rules, and Teh Rulez of teh Internetz. Nice way to butcher it guys.

Re: Rules that you live by.

I am both amused and sad knowing the fact that a number of you [possibly,
but not aimed at, Apoc] are a bit comfuzed on the Christian view.
Unfortunately, I'm unable to explain anything [including how to tie a shoe]
at this moment, and have no brain power to try to explain. I've been trying
to get somebody to realize what Christianity is like and what God is like for
about a week already, and he is still not getting the idea. I'm afraid if I
keep going on trying to explain what God is like and how Christianity works,
I will begin saying the wrong words. I believe I already begun that,
unfortunately.

But I will say this: you are taking scripture out of context. In doing that,
you are getting the whole picture wrong, then assuming wrong.

You're fine. I've been reading through the Bible, and I haven't seen any contradictions (kinda why I asked "namely?"), which was kinda why I wanted an example. I don't think the exact words "malevolent" and "punishing" were used. It might have been misinterpreted is all (which happens way too dang much). I'm with you on this 100%, man. big_smile <---That's a smile, not a laugh.

You've been trying to get someone to know what Christianity and God is like for a week? Are you speaking generally, or are you talking about me. because I opened the fact I am an atheist last week? Because if it is directed towards me, then you can PM me or find me in SpyrocChat, where these kind of conversations are more open. I am willing to listen and I am not close-minded.

And technically, isn't the entire Bible taken out of context? It was written by humans and interpreted by humans, and it's very vaguely written. Especially since it was translated through 2 languages.

It's a conversation with someone being held on a different website.

People take one verse out of the Bible, and get the wrong message out of
what the entire story or teaching is talking about.

Re: Rules that you live by.

I know we're not really supposed to discuss religion on here, but if I get banned, it was for a good cause. Look guys, I know Christianity offends some people, but if you just listen to what God has to say, it will be the opposite of offensive. Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, died on the cross for EVERYONE, Christian or not, so why would you fight against God when he has made the ultimate sacrifice for you? He has paid for every single sin ever commited by anyone. He had the love to bear all the pain for each of them, and if you'll only accept that and believe it in your heart, Jesus can live in your heart and you can have everlasting life and hop off a road that was destined for hell. It's such a simple and easy thing to do. Please take this into consideration guys. I'm telling you this because I don't want any of you to have to face hell and God deserves the glory.
