You do realise that without scientist we would still be living in the dark ages, without electricity, wouldn't be able to understand teh human psyche, would be dying of all kinds of diseases believing that the world is flat  and flying on a back of giant turtle and a huge other list of thing do you?

Like it or not science allowed us to live in a world like this and it is the best world since the Roman empire crumbeled.

He's as far as  I can see a hard-core Christian, so I  think Darwin is like a demonic heretic to him tongue

But seriously think of guys like say Nikola Tesla, one of the most important humans in history. Without him we would still be using latterns and torches to light up the place at night!

How about Edward Jenner ? Without him thousands of people would still be dying because of smallpox!

But yeah I guess we should hate them, I mean *bleep* how dare they study nature and try to learn things form it so they can make our lives easier, who gave them the rights to do that!!!

Threads naturally go off topic when the only opinions can be "Yes" or "No".

Just let the thread go at it's own pace. Discussion will come up, but it will always stay in a somewhat close bound to the main topic.

But I agree with Starscream. Tesla was my second favorite scientist (Darwin was my first), and I feel that we will keep making scientific advances for as long as humanity continues.

Scientists working with car companies are trying to find alternate sources to
power a vehicle other than gasoline, because of two "issues" that exist
today: We are running out of fuel in the earth, and that our Ozone layer is
depleting. These are only scandals that were spread around for news
companies to write about to make money. And now governments are
paying scientists to come up with a new way to replace gas-powered
vehicles. Now I want to buy a 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda so I can waste
fuel and help cause even more pollution. Also, we are not running out of oil.
We will all be dead by the time an oil crisis should even be taken to mind.
You can read about it more [here].

Also: [Ozone layer is not depleting]

Another thing that bothers me is that scientists are now beginning to clone
living organisms such as animals and possibly humans. I am okay with the
cloning of a single organ or body part to save a human's life, but cloning an
entire human is just plain wrong. As a Christian, I believe that God [Holy
Trinity] should only create humans. This is by the form of natural birth. By
creating a clone of a human, the body will have a soul. The act of creating a
human with a soul is "playing God." You might find [this] interesting.

Also: [Cloning organs / growing organs in animals]

I am mainly referring to today's scientists. The scientists from 'way back'
actually did wonderful things such as invent the defibrillator and pace
maker. It is the modern [or Postmodern, whichever you prefer] scientists
that have begun to bother me.

What about the air pollution? Do do realize that the more cars there are the more polluter air will get and it will be harder and harde for us to breath? Yeah sure it migt not happen in out live time but you can't just say *bleep* future generations I'm going to pollute this *bleep* like a madman I don't care about them! Also the planet WILL run out of ol eventually you can't just say I don't care let those generation suffer we had our fun!

Developing non-gas pover viechels is a brilliant idea, coming up with a say 100% electric power car, or a solar power car will do marvels.
I mean looks at Bejing, people are *bleep*ing suffocating because of how pollute the air is you seriously want that to happen to teh rest of the world?

Umm... Gasoline does not give off any chlorofluorocarbons. It just emits green house gases that stay in the troposphere, where Ozone doesn't even come down to (Ozone is between the Stratosphere and Mesosphere).

Try saying that to the countries in the Middle east who are fighting entire WARS because they are running out of this resource.

I sure hope you mean we will die of old age and not of some sort of apocalypse.

Swaffy wrote:

I didn't read the first article, because my argument is that even if we had unlimited oil we should still consider better alternatives, but did you read the second? It even says right in the article that scientists that argued against Ozone depletion were payed by the CFC companies!

We are not even relatively close to cloning humans. And even if we did, what is wrong with creating an artificial baby, for let's say a mother is unable to birth a child?

Everything is discovered by a scientist and most likely created by an engineer. Are you using a Windows 7 OS? Well that was created by a computer scientist. That chair you are sitting in was made out of materials that were discovered synthetically by a scientist. iPods, TVs, vehicles, and even the house you are in right now was researched by a scientist. It sickens me when people only focus on the bad things of science.

Here is an example: right now, there are scientists researching an omni-directional electromagnetic absorber. Basically they can create a non-gravitational black hole that can bend light (and other electromagnetic waves) towards it and convert it to heat at 100% efficiency. Think of the possibilities! That is almost 25 times as powerful as the most powerful solar panel in the world. You would be able to boil water in the sun instantaneously. Drive an electric car at night without a battery! It could solve the entire world's energy problem if it is researched enough and commercialized.

Another example: Quantum Entanglement Displacement. Currently, individual photons and ions are able to be teleported at large distances... Instantly... Which, is obviously faster than the speed of light. So give a thought on what that could be used for.

Not to interrupt your conversation, but I can attest to the fact that it's REALLY REALLY suffocating in Beijing; it was hard to breathe when I went there, and I don't even have asthma.

Ok, carry on.

Tesla was a great man. Even Plasma-cutters are made out of HIS ideas!
Without Tesla, the Milau-bridge would never have existed, for example.

@Swaffy, you're kinda right. However, some people need those organs, for example... it's not natural (well, actually, nothing can't be natural. Don't start a discussion with me here about it, 'cause either I'll win or both/no one will win). But I agree with you about the greenhouse effect and so, I'm almost sure it DOES NOT EXIST, and if it does, we're only causing 30-20% of it. Who gives a ***.

@Starscream, Hydrogen is an option to replace our fuel, and so is gas, electricity. Wind and water power will be there forever = electricity for cars and things we need. Hydrogen production: Waste of refining Oil, ok, that's true, if oil's gone, less hydrogen can be made. Pity. Hydrogen can also be found in other places (geisirs, for example. Thermal energy is an option as well.), and by electrocuting water, Hydrogen can be an excellent storage material. Dangerous? Only flammable. That Blimp? No, that was the material it was made of, not the hydrogen. Make solar/water/electricity powered cars, it'll do. However, a better way and more universal is hydrogen. It can be made with that electricity, and can be used to power a lot of things AND store them. Plus, hydrogen generates so much electricity, the overload your car produces can be transferred to anything!

@Neotyguy40, The wars in the middle east only give them profit. think about it. More war means more help needed, more money needed. That's a reason to make the oil prices that high. If the wars are over, the prices will lower for sure. It's just the balancing. And they're fighting, well, that's just idiotic. They need their money for other things than making weapons...

Oil Crisis, we'll find another way, yes.

Nice fact: Climate Conference. "Oh my, it's getting too hot because of a greenhouse effect here, let's have a conference. A high-tech conference which uses much energy to build and to keep up, a conference which is the opposite of our means: it costs us power while we want to save it!" Oh, and hot? That weather didn't seem to reflect that argument. Nonono, the earth changes itself, it's not necessarily our problem. Have you ever thought of how many extreme changes the earth has made, looking at climate? billions of years ago until now, so many changes. It's just the earth, according to me. Stop cutting trees, plant more of them, they need CO2, our air will contain more oxygen, cleaner. But I disagree that we are the major cause of it.

We cloned a sheep already, Neo. We're closer to cloning as you might think. But I agree about cloning, though it can be said to be "not natural".

Hmm, you are quite right about this science development, and I do respect scientists, but there are so much of them that are ***ing around with the environment and pollution... Better think of new ways of energy, indeed.

Example (not necessarily related to Angels and Demons): Antimatter. Antimatter + Matter = Annihilation = energy. Very much energy. The problem is, though, that even CERN does not make enough antimatter to light a light bulb for an hour. If we find a way to create much antimatter to collide with matter and catch the energy that will be there, we'll have a great, infinite source of power. SCIENTISTS can help with this.

Conclusion, I agree partly with Swaffy and Neo.
