Tech Help - Problem connecting to Internet Explorer/Windows Live Messenger
Hey all. I'm having difficulty connecting to Windows Live Messenger. Because it can only be accessed via a connection to IE, I checked the connection to IE. There is no connection or it's being blocked. This wasn't a problem until I got a Trojan horse on my computer (which coincidentally held twenty-four more; yeah, it was a big mess). Norton Anti-Virus took care of the Trojans though and my computer is free of viruses.
So, at first I believed it was just the viruses blocking the connection. But even with them clear, I still can't access either IE or Windows Live. I can't uninstall IE8 because if I do to try and reinstall it, the parts have to be downloaded by links from Microsoft's site. However those links are also saying that the computer can't connect to it.
When I try signing into WL, it gives me Troubleshoot, saying that there is no Proxy Server or Key Ports (which are supposedly being blocked by Norton's firewall, but when I checked Norton it was saying that IE was perfectly fine and would connect). So now I'm at a complete loss as to what I should do. Any advice?

Re: Tech Help - Problem connecting to Internet Explorer/Windows Live Messenger
Tip: Don't use free MS internet tools like Messenger or IE. It will just give you a headache constantly.
Try using Adium instead of Messenger, since you will still be able to keep your own account, and also try Firefox/Chrome instead of IE.
If you are dedicated to still use your apps that you currently have, then try making sure the correct port on your router is forwarded. It is usually the biggest cause of the problems.

Re: Tech Help - Problem connecting to Internet Explorer/Windows Live Messenger
I downloaded Adium, but all it did was open up new, blank tabs on Firefox, and wasn't doing anything besides that. I had it set to save and open with Firefox, and it kept asking me "Open with." I uninstalled it from my computer so I could get control of Firefox again, so I have no idea what to do with it now since it isn't working right with Firefox.
Edit: I also use a PC, while Adium is described as being for a Mac. I don't know if that'll cause problems, as I know that Mac and PC programs generally aren't compatible with the opposite system, unless you work around the limitations. I am not exactly a tech savvy person.

Blaze, do you require a proxy connection through IE in order to use the internet?
meebo.com is a pretty good web based messenger alternative.
(EDIT: We fixed this privately. Blaze is good to go.)
