FIRST Robotic Competition

The FIRST Robotics Competition is an annual event where people around the world form teams to build robots to try and compete in different sports-like competitions.

Now that you know what it is, guess what? Our team Oz-Ram came in first place at the Boston regionals! And we came in second at the Manchester regionals!

Comparing that to the more than 2,000 teams around the world, it is as likely to get in both first and second like we did as it is to win $75,000 from the lottery! Infact, we hold the record for the highest scoring robot in the entire world for this year's game!

Here is a small animation of the rules for the game Breakaway:

We are going to Atlanta in 2 weeks for the finals, and we expect to get at least within the top 5, or at very least the top 10.

There were many robotics teams, and a few of them were from other countries. There were 2 from Canada, which did fairly well, one from Australia (they had a good chant), one from Brazil (we played against them in the final match), and one from the UK (they did horrible).

During the Manchester regionals, we played and won all the way up to the last match... Then we had a battery failure mid-game, and it ended up being 2 vs 3.

During the Boston regionals, on the first day the wiring became messed up, and our robot kept shutting down when it hit something. We played 6 out of our 9 matches like that, and we only won 1 of them. The next day, we figured out the problem and fixed it up. We then got such high scores, that we were chosen by another team to play as an ally with them. We creamed pretty much everyone, except the last match. On the last game, we scored 12 points, and the other teams scored 10 and got a robot to hang at endgame (+2 points = 12). Fortunately, they got a penalty and lost a point. We ended up becoming the winner!

Re: FIRST Robotic Competition

When I read the name of the thread, I was thinking, "Wow ... robots might
actually rule the world one day." But this actually sounds like a fun and
entertaining thing to do. Ever heard of Robot Wars?

Battle Bots I've heard of, but never Robot Wars.

Did you know that FRC is considered a varsity sport?

Re: FIRST Robotic Competition

We're doing robotics in my school, it's a very fun and entertaining class.

I'm still waiting for robot boxing/archery/marksmanship.

Ohh, it's a video-game... Not a real thing...

Re: FIRST Robotic Competition

Not sure if anyone cares, but in Atlanta? We came in the semi-finals!

That means we can between 7-13th place out of 20,000 teams!
