Have you ever had an animale or a favorite pet die on you?

I have they were two shetland sheepdogs (shelties), there names were Cassy and Captain.
Cassy was brown all over with black spots on him and white coat over his chest, he was only 3-4 years it was hot smelled of fresh cut grass, me Cassy and Captain were playing in the back yard (half the size of a football field) and a Gaint dog came a of no where and started attacking Cassy as I was running a turned around and saw Captain bitting his neck and when it got loose he ran off. About 5 years later he started bleeding to death for no reason and died and as I cried violent tears that day I could have sworn I saw I bright white light in the direction of my home, and after that we thought things were going back to narmale untill.....
Captain, he wouldn't eat, drink, nothing so mom had to put him down and about 2 days after she... she put him down she told me and even now I still cry like a little baby wishing that d**** dog wouldn't have done that!!! why did god have to take them both!!!!!!!!! :'(

Re: Have you ever had an animale or a favorite pet die on you?

I know how you feel in a way.

I have an aviary, but before I got it I had a very tame bird inside named Ali. When I finally got the aviary a friend of mine gave me another male cockatiel as a friend to Ali. We always thought Ali was male... Nope she was female, as the eggs and babies two weeks later proved! XD She always remained tame and my absolute favourite though.
The babies got older and winter came around. Because it was only the first year and I was inexperienced, I didn't know when would be a good time to start insulating the aviary ready for winter. Cockatiels and budgies are native to Australia so are used to frosts at night, though not constant ones over a long winter. In the UK the temperatures gradually get colder then they will suddenly plummet and we get our first frosts. It was the 4th of November and I went outside as usual and sorted the birds out with food and the like. Although Ali was the only bird that was tame in the sense of the word, all of the other birds (especially the babies) would willingly perch on my hand if there was food there. Now, when she was inside Ali used to have funny turns where she would just sit fluffed up in a corner and she would barely eat; stomach ache maybe. She was having one of those this night so she wouldn't eat much, she just sat on my shoulder. I thought nothing of it, fed the babies and shut them up for the night as she always perked up the next day.
Next morning I come outside to a frosty morning, open up the front door to let light in and what do I find? A bird dead on the floor. I didn't look for long, I legged it inside shouting for my mum and she came out and got the casualty out of the way. When she was in there she also found Crackers, one of the babies, sat on the floor on the verge as well. While she force-fed him she made me get a hold of myself and feed the rest and set up a fan to warm the aviary up. The problem with my birds is that apart from Jinx, the father (who is albino), Ali and all of the babies are lutino-coloured (aka, yellow and white with orange cheeks) so my mum doesn't know the difference. However, to me, each bird has a different face, literally. So I can tell the differene with just a glance. So I told her which she was caring for and then I also went into bits again because I noticed which one was missing... Ali.
I'm guessing that because she was slightly weak due to having babies that summer and due to one of her funny turns, Ali just couldn't handle the cold. Crackers wasn't bullied per say, he was just always the last to eat so got the least. Both of them couldn't cope with the cold, but we got to Crackers in time... He's still alive and kicking now, five years later.
My Mum was upet for me, but she kind of just kicked me (almost literally) and told me to get over it. Her exact words were:

"It's a harsh lesson, but you've got to look after the others and at least now you'll learn to insulate sooner."

It's upsetting for you, I know. But you can just think that they are together, they were obviously close if Captain was grieving so much. It wasn't your fault, and it wasn't particularly the fault of the dog that attacked Cassy either (though it will be hard to think that). It is much more the fault of the owner. Animals act on instincts rather than feelings, and if a dog isn't trained properly then it will attack dogs or even people who aren't a part of its pack. It's not your fault at all, so don't feel guilty that they were attacked when you were there.
On saying that, are you sure that Cassy haemorrhaged because of what happened or because of another reason? Either way, it may help if you get a new dog or something. It won't replace the dogs, but it fills in the void they left and gives you something to concentrate on, making them happy will stop you dwelling on the others and depressing yourself on something you can do nothing about. Having the rest of the birds to look after helped me get over Ali. Since them I have lost a few others, but I deal with it and you can too eventually.

The kitten we rescued was killed by somebody. We don't know how he made it home.

it really does stink and I'm sorry to hear about your birds, I'm sure they were one of a kind huh ^.^ besides if you ask me there souls collided with mine so I'm
sure there safe where they are now.

Thanks I needed someone to say something to help me

Re: Have you ever had an animale or a favorite pet die on you?

No problem, happy to help. wink

I still get upset sometimes when I think of Ali (who died 5 years ago too), as well as Chip (1 year ago), Margolo (6 months ago), Apricot Beauty (Mum named her... she died just over a month ago) and the four unnamed babies I lost.
Two of my birds have also gotten out of the aviary and have flown away, ultimately to their deaths, which is even worse than them dying in the aviary because I know they will have died slow and hungry deaths in the cold. Either that of they'll have been taken by cats or birds of prey...

It's alright to be upset sometimes thinking about them and have a cry rather than bottle it up; it's only not OK when it is all you think about when, as I said earlier, you can't do a thing about it.

Re: Have you ever had an animale or a favorite pet die on you?

Yeah, one night I woke up hearing one of my guinea pigs breathing very hard and when I went to see him he was lying down and seemed in pain. He died in my arms very quickly after that, apparently he was born with a problem in his organs... Poor little guy...

Also not long before that, someone ran over one of my adopted cats right outside my house...

;_;

Re: Have you ever had an animale or a favorite pet die on you?

No don't I know you loved that cat very much but it still doesn't give you
the right to kill the person who did it even though when someone kills
an animale it's counted as a masked murder hunting season or not.
