Re: Westboro Baptist Church
I never said I hated them, I just posed the question, isn't it better to hate rather than kill? Nobody gets hurt when they're hated(in a way).

Re: Westboro Baptist Church
Yes, but you can't justify an immoral action by proudly claiming that you could do much worse. I went out and mugged someone, but it's okay! I could've killed them but I didn't!

Re: Westboro Baptist Church
You also mentioned that this would be torture. Personally, I think torture in most cases is wrong, and these people are not exceptions. Don't you think a few first-class debaters, with genteel tactics and targeting the edge members to slowly disintergrate the organisation. Just like peeling an onion.

Re: Westboro Baptist Church
Oh, that makes it all right then? It's totally fine to mentally torture someone? I mean, I'm no defending these people, but people who will attack them without even trying to see it from their point of view are a lot worse.

Re: Westboro Baptist Church
You seem to have misinterpreted my comment. Everybody(not just here) talks about killing and/or torturing them. But like I said, leaving them alone would be torture enough seeing as their life has "no meaning" according to some and they're proving nothing thus, according to some, their life is pointless and leaving to that dull and repitive life would not actually torture them but from putting yourself in their shoes you'd see how meaningless their lives truly are and that's why I used "torture".

Re: Westboro Baptist Church
Repetitive takes a second "e".
Oh I see. Fair enough, but I still stand by the idea that we should try to turn them around. I mean, it's only fair. They try to turn us around with their signposts, we should try to turn them around.

Re: Westboro Baptist Church
Assuming they're not trolls and actually believe what they're saying Leaving them to their own beliefs and just ignoring them sounds like a good idea to me. I highly doubt anyone would be able to change them.
I'm uncomfortable with the idea of "torturing" anyone, though, and I don't see how anyone can find the idea of other people suffering a good thing. Really, you're just sinking to their level if you believe they should be killed or tortured.

Re: Westboro Baptist Church
We shouldn't kill them, but just let them live their hollow and meaningless lives until they die. That's torture enough. But boy are THEY in for a big surprise when they die
Im sure I already know the answer, but what will they be surprised about?

Re: Westboro Baptist Church
After all, what five year old would question Daddy when he says that the homosexuals are wrong. Of course they are! Why? My Dad says so, duh.
Um.. Some people are naturally against Homosexuals, without their family's pull. Though with most other beleifes this is the case, I think that out of all of the choices for explanations you probably chose the worst one.
I'll agree with you on most other subjects though as I said. I would explain further, but I won't: I'm leaving this at that.. close to the line here as we are anyhow.
If tomorrow may never come, and yesterday is just a memory, then what is today worth?

The fact that they're not the ones going to heaven

I just want to know your opinion.
Because I don't believe in a place of eternal torture.
Here's something I'd like to point out, though...
If Satan is the ruler of Hell, he's against God, right?
Well, why would he torture the people sent to Hell if he's against God's orders?
Wouldn't they be like a drunk-and-party army funhouse instead?
I also don't believe in a hell because if there is a God, God doesn't hate any human being. He wouldn't send a human being to roast in a barbeque for eternity.

Re: Westboro Baptist Church
I actually agree with a lot of what you said, Aicebo.
In my religion we're taught that God doesn't actually want anyone sent there, but He give us all freedom of choice so we can make our own lives here and choose whether we want to spend our afterlives with him or not. Destroying hell and the devil would, effectively, be taking out people's free will to do evil things.
Still, I can't see a loving God wanting any of his creations to suffer eternally. There's also a place called Purgatory that's like hell where people who died with minor sins go to be "cleansed" before entering heaven. I like to believe evil people just stay there longer and get in eventually.
I know we're not supposed to be talking about religion, but this is interesting >_>

Re: Westboro Baptist Church
I could just see it now... God is looking down upon the WBC and trying to shout at them:
WBC: God always hated gays!
God: Yea, well I also supported slavery back then, but what now!
Or God answering his phone made by calls from people on Earth:
Generic Person: Hey God, why don't you take a vacation?
God: Ever hear of the Dark Ages? Or the Soviet Union? Or Friday Night cartoons?
Or even god conversing with the Devil:
God: Yo! Satan, wassup homie? You like what I did with America there? I call it 'Democracy'.
Satan: Like what I did with China? I call it communism... Now gtfo of my demonic garden pit.
I can come up with a thousand more of these :-P

They are a little off if they said that about gays.
God loves gays, he just hates the fact that they practice homosexuality.
But he gave us free will so...

Well, its not Satan who does the torturing. Hell was already a place of torture before anyone including Satan ever went there. Satan is tortured in hell just because he's there. So Satan will try to get as many as he can to go down with him (kinda like if a bully has no friends so they try to make others miserable).
Hell is just a place of torture mostly because you're not with God, you're far from him, and you'll never get to be with or see him in person.
