Furries
Ive been here for a while and I dont think Ive ever heard any mention of the term "furry". This is surprising because it could be argued that spyro is furry. Being an anthropomorphic dragon is not all that uncommon in the fandom. This is a thread for all the furries out there (if there are any).

Re: Furries
*raises hand* Im a furry! and yes. Spyro IS a furry. furries dont literally have to have fur and they dont have to be anthro. furries can be feral, cat girls, scalies, creatures, anthros, ect.

Re: Furries
Furry is when people think they are animals secretly. At least, that is what I noticed.

Re: Furries
furries arent secretly animals, we are part of the furry fandom. we find anthropomorphic animals facinating and make art and write stories about them. Im not a very good artist so im more of a fan. I havent been a furry for very long, maybe about half a year. Im trying to convince my parents to let me go to anthrocon. It was only about a month ago that i told them I was a furry. Whats your fursona?

Re: Furries
I thought furries and scailies were humans who have animal personas and/or believe they are animals.
Animals and dragons themselves aren't furries or scailies.

The majority of the fandom has scared my mind with their 'yiff' (I just found out recently what that was.) Srsly. I find it everywhere.

Haha, Furbies were awesome. XD
As for furries...I really don't think Spyro should be classified as a furry. I mean, that's like saying your normal house cat or something is a furry.
My opinion regarding furries is not so great (Rurik mentioned 'yiff'), but as long as they aren't like super-obsessive about them, I'm okay with it.

Re: Furries
4 furry types (taking this straight from fchan)
1. "Animal-human Hybrids: These creatures are your most common "furry." Some people consider them to be humans with animal attributes, some people think of them as animals with human attributes. But whatever you think, they all tend to share the same design: An animal that walks on two legs and has the general figure of a human being. An example of this would be Disney's Robin Hood or Road Rovers."
2. "Humans with Animal Features: In Japan they are known as "kemonomimi." These are you typical "cat-girls" and "dog-men" that are mostly human, but have some animal parts and/or behavior. The addition of ears, tails, fangs, and wings are the most popular. Some examples are Felicia from Darkstalkers and Inuyasha."
3. "Funny Animal/Toon: Funny animals are your very stylized cartoon furries. Anime fans may all them "chibi." They are mostly like the an Animal-human Hybrid, but much less defined. Examples of these would be Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, or most of the Tiny Toons characters."
4. "Talking Animal: Defining them is easy, as they look exactly like animals, but have human intelligence and the ability to speak. Balto is a prime example of what fits within this category."
and this is other stuff that fchan allows as furry:
"Lastly, we do make the exception for mythical creatures which directly resemble an animal or were modeled after one. Some general examples are unicorns, dragons, nagas, and taurs. Specific examples include (but are not limited to) Disney's Gargoyles, the Halo Elites, and Final Fantasy's Galka."
scalies are still technically furries. like I said. it dosen't literally need fur to be a furry. Trust me. I should know.

Re: Furries

Thats one of the stereotypes of the furry fandom that really makes me *bleep*ed off. the majority of the fandom are not sex crazed perverts. the furry image was smashed by vanity fair when they did a very offensive artical on the furries, making them out to be zoophiles and plushophiles that "yiff" with each other at their conventions. the only reason that people think that is because normal furries are boring but the perverts are much easier to write a scandalizing artical about furries. The perverts are just verey visible on the internet and everyone automaticaly takes that person and holds them as symbolizing the entire furry fandom. The word "yiff" was created to be a harmless noise expressing great happines in fox language. It has been twisted to mean sex among furries. Im sorry if i am ranting but this is just how I feel about furry stereotypes

Re: Furries
yeah. I find that incredibly irritating as well. Just because I'm a furry dosen't mean I want to have sex with animals. >:( If people find out you are a furry they automatically think you are a sick freak and use nasty terms, like "furfag" I cannot stand that.
anwho. discussing other furry stuff now. how about the tpyes of furries we like? for me it's dragons big time (mostly dragon types like spyro and chinese dragons as well). canines too. I usually prefer wolves and huskies. I think they are beautiful animals <3 I like sheep/rams as well. my least favorite furry type are rodents and some birds. I dont really hate them though.

Re: Furries
Honestly, if fchan is a reliable source of information about furries, they're as bad as the stereotypes say as far as I'm concerned. o.O
The way I see it, anyone who choose to identify as "furries" should be willing to deal with the negative connotations of the word. "Furries" who don't fit the stereotypes could just say they like anthro art and have an animal persona, but instead they make the choice to associate themselves with the negative stereotypes and then wonder why they're being judged when there are tons of examples all over the internet of truly disgusting furry content.
I'm honestly not trying to bash anyone who calls him/herself a furry here; this has just always baffled me. Being a furry is completely a choice; it's not like they're being persecuted for being a certain race or something like that.

Re: Furries
but its like being bashed for being a gamer. being a gamer is a choice just like being a furry. people just dont have respect anymore. if they are that disgusted by furry fandom then they should mind their own business. its annoying and it gets old. just because it was my choice dosen't mean its ok for people to use harsh vulgarities and such. its called harassment. and no matter what there is NO exception for harsssment. its also like being harassed for your religion. that is also (in most cases) a choice.
even though it gets old. I also find myself to usually be able to ignore such people. guess thats a good thing

Re: Furries
In that case, if you didn't want the negative gamer stereotypes, you could just say, "I like video games."
No one was harassing you on this forum, either. All anyone said was their opinions of furries are generally negative because of the perverts who make up the fandom. This should be expected if you're going to call yourself a furry.

Re: Furries
I meant harassment in general. I never said anyone here was harassing me. and its sad that just because you like something you have to tell yourself to accept that kind of harassment. it just shows how messed up our world is and how discriminating people are. I found cute furry videos on youtube for example and there were comment saying how everyone was a "furfag" and such. there is no point to this harassment. people just can't keep to themselves and just have to start a fight. and to keep things clear, no one has offended me in any way! none of this talk of harassment is pointed towards anyone here.

Re: Furries
I'm not saying the harassment is OK. I agree with you; it's just pathetic and sad that people resort to that.
All I'm saying is that if you're going to identify as a furry, you should expect that to have some negative connotations for most people, and not without good reason. I still don't get why one can't just be a fan of it without calling oneself a furry (to me it seems like people who call themselves furries are just asking to be judged by labeling themselves as such, much like those typical high school stereotypes like "emo"), but again, it's up to the individual.
Sorry if I'm rambling; it's almost 4 in the morning. >.>

Re: Furries
Gonna agree with Stormy. No matter what you do, people will hate you and insult you. Just ignore them. I'm writing a book on dragons (going through the editing phase) and I know I am going to be insulted. So I just yelled 'screw it' and did it anyway. I know it will appeal to others, as dragons are apperantly 'in'. Same with zombies.
But yeah. Just ignore them. I have no issues with the sane ones (I say sane becuase they don't go around writting those thingys).
